Instead there's only a master updates notification with a URL that leads to a lot of advertising and links to ten featured threads at a time that have no relation to my subscribed fora or subscribed threads, and the notification message itself has more of them.
Notices of new posts to subscribed threads
still come, but I've no idea about new threads in the fora where I want to be notified of them. I found a way to display links to newly started threads for all of AVS Forum, but they can't be sorted by which forum the thread is in, nor are they presented in order by creation of the thread but rather only in order by recency of the latest
post, so you can't even reliably scan it from the start down to the timestamp of your last scan.
I asked in the thread for people who just have questions and got no help. Maybe the more critical (in both senses of the word) readers in this thread can tell me how to get forum notifications working again.
If you're talking about the daily email that contained all the new threads and updated threads for a particular forum, then the answer is that it is broken, or more accurately, it appears to have been eliminated. All we get now is one email listing all new threads and thread updates for all the forums we've subscribed to in a manner that is completely lacking in any sort of context - it is in my opinion, utterly worthless.
I used to love getting those daily emails, especially the one from the "DVD Movie, Concerts, and Music Discussion" forum because I could see the threads started by AVS Forum member lwright84
that contained videos of news films just released or due out soon, now I don't get that, I have to search and hunt them down manually. And by search, I mean using an outside search engine such as Google because the thread search here as been eliminated as well - there's a link that says "Search This Thread", but it's basically a waste of screen real estate as all it does is bring up a load of out of context posts, definitely not what I'm looking for.
The real sad thing is, a Huddler employee has already stated that a fix for the broken thread search will probably not happen anytime soon.
As I've stated in another thread, "Welcome to the new AVS Forum."
I feel bad for David as I'm certain this is not what he wanted, or expected(hopefully anyway), but the Huddler takeover has completely trashed some of basic core functions, and in fact, some of the very reasons why this site was the best of it's kind on the 'Net. It's a site where people come for information, and the ability to find that information has been gutted like a freshly caught mackerel. And what do you do with bait...? You toss it out as chum(forcing users to search with outside search engines moving AVS into the upper ranks of search engine results) to bring in more fish(users) to direct them to your hook(ads) to target them with spending(sinking the hook) money to buy advertised products.
I've been here a long time, I came here to find information and answers to questions I had on a variety of subjects related to home theater, I've even helped many users find answers to their own questions. Sadly, I don't see myself spending much more time here as "IT HAS BECOME A PAIN IN THE ASS TO EVEN USE THE SITE!"
