Um, actually the means and methods of finding/reading/using the content is just as important.

The new layout is harder on the eyes, more wasted space, bloated, and harder to read. I'm sure I'm not the only one who started visiting the site less because it's just so messy and unfriendly now. This is why Ux design is important.

I look forward to the mobile app, because this is probably the only way I will begin to frequent AVS more often.

Less frequenting = less money for AVS. This is why it's important to tell users to "not complain" and to take into consideration their feedback.

I too dislike the new lay out and colors ETC.
I also will not pay for a app for my phone that that was missing functions I like
with my browser.
I find I spend a lot less time on this forum because of it. that will mean much
less clicking on ads or them poping up.
I will start to check out the other home theater sites online.....
update; after reading two pages back I believe this site is down the tubes.
funny thing too, I was just about to become a paying member after the years on here.
I for one did not mind the advertisements.

Even the default avatar is terrible. Can some please just make it blank.
Yes, the wasted space is very annoying, especially on the major index pages, as it takes forever to scroll down the index with the jerky speed of the new site.

I am a lurker here but visit daily, I used to own a large forum (www.turbobuick.com) so I have some understanding of this stuff. I must say that I find this platform very frustration from the user point of view. Seems like it was built for the admin not the user. It is difficult to navigate and buggy. I have been through a few of these format changes and while no one lkes change and lots of people always complain, this one does not seem like a step forwad to me. Hopefully there will be some updates as I believe the forum is too deep to go to something different now

I haven't been over there in years.

From the year you joined and the amount of posts you have, were you actually part of AVS?
I have to agree this format is very difficult to get used to. Very uncomfortable, not user friendly. The poster pictures make you feel that all posts are from same person. Who ever sold this format to AVS should look for a new job. Who knows maybe if enough feedback is received, some improvement might help breathe life back into AVS. Like watching paint dry on a wall.

Surely you can't be serious... can you?
I agree, the new format is not user friendly at all, and I find myself visiting less and less. Not too much longer before I abandon this site like the others have.

I even find editing my posts a pain. Always getting stuck with......

Same here. AVS made a mistake changing their site this way....too many visual distractions...unappealing design.

I hate to admit this, but at first I thought, cool....it looks modern.

But I find myself no longer coming to the site every day.  It is simply too clunky, slow, hard to find stuff, etc.

I have two other sites that I use daily and the both blow away this site for simplicity and speed and just easy to use.

I think the biggest issue is all the noise going on bogs everything down.

I will keep TRYING and TRYING to adapt, but I am afraid site traffic will take a hit.

I don't like it either. Hard to find new posts.

hovering your mouse pointer over the FORUMS main tab automatically opens the sub areas .. nothing could be easier

While it may be technically easy to find new posts, the site is visually harder to navigate.

Just a quick question if the above poster comes back...Can you please explain what you find hard about finding new posts? To just say that for the sake of saying it is one thing, but to give us some info as to why, we may be able to help you.

Like their is even new tool on the top right under the drop down to show just new posts. Even new threads. And if you mean going to the first new post in a thread, then that is as simple as clicking the icon to the left of the thread title. (It has an arrow on it if their are new posts in that thread from the last time you visited the thread.)

Help us, to help you I guess is what I am trying to say. But yes, their are some things we are still working on, like the search for example. It is in progress. And when we can open up the HTML5 version of the site to beta testing, than I think a lot of mobile or tablet users will be very happy.

Thank you.

gag! the old was bogged down, but the amount of page scrolling to even get to the start of a discussion really blows.and when you get there split screens cover
half the message,...sure i could probably set some tab different,,but have not found that yet, and have multiple platforms to view from

Thank you.

I'm fine with the new site. I am however curious on the ETA of the HTML5 version of the site. biggrin.gif

Thanks

I did not say this...but we are hoping to start beta in Aug. Shhhhh..... You know how things can change when it comes to programming and deadlines or releases. So...well...just saying...DO NOT HOLD ME OR ANYONE TO THIS. smile.gif I will say that I have already started playing in a read-only version on a test bed. (Not AVS or any other real site.) I will say...I am thus far happy with the progress and can not wait for it be to shown. It is a top priority item with a team of dedicated coders. (Also top of the list with other coders is improving search.)

Unfortunately, I have to agree and still feel the same as I did back in post #88. I've been trying to adapt for over 3 weeks now and don't feel any more comfortable with it than I did the first day after the big change. The frequency of my visits and the total time spent here have dropped quite a bit, but I do still check the threads and posts in a couple of the individual forum categories. My best guess is that it will never be as good as it was previously, but that's frequently the case with things that are "new and improved" these days. In the interim, I'll likely keep trying to adapt. smile.gif

As others have already observed: it's slow. (And, no, I'm not running a 486!)

It looks as though I'm in the minority, but I like the new look. It's just as fast or faster (Win7 Pro, 64 bit, 6GB RAM), and has more features than the old. The only glitch is the "x days, x hours, x minutes ago" stamp on each post instead of the date. But that's minor, and I'm coping...

You can?  Where?  I'll look again.  Maybe the setting is named something counterintuitive?

EDIT: Nope, not counterintuitive at all, but "Show absolute timestamps in post headers," which couldn't be clearer.  Why had nobody mentioned it before?  Thank you, Mike.  That was my third biggest gripe with the new software (and, like my second biggest, wasn't very large).
