About to buy a Onkyo 5009

Well, before I make this big of a plunge on a receiver figured I'd post. Currently have the 608 Onkyo and love it. But it's older, and if i'm getting the Panny 65" VT50 TV, I need a better receiver with better video processing and I like a lot of the features the 5009 has. better upscaling, hdmi pass thru, etc. and 145W vs my 100W. Overall a much higher end receiver. It's Onkyo's flagship unit right now. Yamaha just came out with some new 2012 high end units. the 3020 and the 2020. Those are the only ones I keep comparing... the 3020 vs the 5009. I really like these units b/c they have lots of power and low THD. I'm leaning toward the Onkyo b/c it's THX and has XT32 Audyssey. Thoughts before I commit to the Onkyo 5009 this weekend?

There is a price difference between the Onkyo 5009 and 3009 - worth a look to see if there is value in that difference. The XT32 is the way to go though. You will be amazed compared to your 608 - I heard the 3009 on demo a couple of days back.

You might want to consider the new Onkyo 818, which can be had for a very nice price at Vann's, that some owners of x009 receivers think it compares favorably to.

There's a dedicated thread;

There is also a review from an enthusiast (joerod) who has a gazillion dollars worth of toys and has owned or reviewed many high end receivers including the x009 series.

Just a thought.

Well the 5009 is the only one with the fancy tordial whatever amp. and it has bit more power than the 3009 IIRC. I looked into the Pioneer Elite's, even their new 2012 models and always come back to Onkyo. Do you guys think the 5009's price will drop over the next few months?

Just be aware that even the top of the line receivers may not have better video scaling than the VT50. It already upscales everything to 1080p and from the reviews I've seen it does a great job. I doubt you would see an improvement from a better video scaler.

The 3009 and 5009 should drop some one the the 3010 and 5010 come out. If you only have one subwoofer the 818 is a good option as well. It has XT32 just like the 3009/5009 it just doesn't have the SubEQ HT for eqing seperate subs.

^ I do have 2 subs. I have a 8" powered sub in each of my Deftech towers.

I'm not feeling too good about these Ebay vendors selling the 5009. Can't seem to find their company's info on the web, nor on Onkyo's website. Whole thing feels shady. Does anyone have experiece with a good online vendor?

Made the plunge. Should have a 5009 NIB arriving sometime next week.

I was really wanting the SC5509 but since I can't find it decided on the 5009. I was able to get the under 2000 deal last week. I'm coming from a Elite-37 which is a beast but can't EQ my 2 SVS PC12-Plus subwoofers. I'm not using the internal amps of the 5009 but have the Outlaw 7125 7 channel connect to it. The soundstage/separation is incredible. This is my first experience with XT32 and I'm a believer.

This will be the first time I've ever heard XT32....
