Poor subscription management - Page 3

I've quit looking at the emails. I'll try to take a look at the next one I get.
Mike,

Well, it's nice to have new threads marked as such, so that we can spot them and check them out if we're interested; for those of us who also get individual notices for new activity in existing threads to which we've already subscribed, knowing which threads in the daily summary are newly started is a boon, so that we can read only that.  On the other hand, the new HTML code is much, much bulkier, and whatever advantage it has is not worth the extra bandwidth and storage.  I had to change the email address for my AVS Forum account because I was a couple of days behind in going through the daily summaries and they were using up my quota at that email provider, who were issuing me quota warning notices almost every other day.

Two daily emails from AVS maxed out your email capacity?

This may be an issue with my settings, but I don't like that they don't download completely on my mobile devices. I have to manually download the remainder of the message.

Only with help from the mail I already had stored there, of course, but daily summaries in the old style could have piled up for a few more days without hitting my quota.

The quota issue was mine, and mine to solve; you can't control which mail provider I choose nor how much mail I store nor where I store it.  I brought it up only to indicate why I noticed the sudden size increase in the messages.

The only added information in the new format is to sort the listed threads by forum and to mark which threads are new.  That can't account for the approximate doubling in size of the messages.  The rest of the increase in bulk has just been for making the summaries someone's idea of prettier, and that's a waste for everyone, including people who read and delete them daily or otherwise have no storage problems (as I no longer do).

Much better, it's actually useful now, thanks for finally getting it done!

That's good to read. I'll pass it on.

The daily digest of detailed posts to a thread is still broken for me. Is this fix on the radar or will it never be fixed?

Broken in what way?

You used to be able to get an email (1 email per thread) that was a daily accumulation of all the posts in that thread. Very valuable when you want to follow a thread, but cannot get on the web site every day.

see posts #43, #53-55 or start at post #1 when the forum changed

The digest is just that, a digest of the content, not the entire content.

1.
a compilation or summary of material or information.

The new digest email is set up so that the unread post(s) is a single, simple click away.

You can also opt for immediate email notifications for thread(s) where you'd like the full content of a new post displayed in the email itself.

So, I take that as a resounding "No"? contrary to your own post #18?

I think he is referring to an email that contains all the unread posts in a subscribed thread. On the old system there was a drop down link from Thread Tools that would allow you to do this, I believe it did anyway, I never used it myself.

You used to get a daily email like this. It linked you back to the site where the thread tools drop down was.

I'm pretty sure I used to get emails that contained the new posts as well. It was very convenient. While this latest update to the daily email is an improvement to the "new" email. It's still a long way from being as useful as the old emails. Just MHO, and YMMV.

I received via email a 12 page notice of settlement of a class action suit against Samsung about The Shadow Effect. Basically, if you have the shadow effect, Samsung will repair your TV, replacing the light tunnel. If you already paid to have this done, they will reimburse you.

More info is here: http://www.samsung.com/us/dlptvsettlement/

Thanks, mine is still going without a problem but it's good to know this is there if I need it.

Yes, that's what I used to get and am now getting again, it breaks down the posts by forum and also notes the thread starter's name, exactly what I wanted.
Mine looked like before and now just list the threads that are updated, as we have complained about. Per the post saying it is "fixed," mine still look the same. I'm going to try resubscribing to a thread.

Back in "the good old days" the emails definitely did contain the full text of the new posts (possibly as an option).

I agree that this latest change is an improvement over its immediate predecessor. I also agree that it's nowhere near as useful (to me) as the old way (which included the full text of the new posts).
