smart flash is solved on my unit after the smarthub update today can anyone else confirm this that had the problem and can someone post all of the good calibrations i know there are 2 on 631 i just wanted to see a bunch in a row to give a test

Can anyone comment on the 2d to 3d conversion capabilities of this tv? How is it activated and on what type of video can this be done? As in, if I play something from YouTube app, can I switch to 3d. How about if I play something from my thumbdrive? How about something from local tv seen over antennae or even something from a cable box like uverse?

I realize it is a gimmick type of function, it will not be as good as regular 3d either? Just simply wondering if this functionality is only activated with certain apps or video types?

Also is there a 3d depth level control? I understand the lg tv has that option, just never seen it mentioned on samsung?

Thanks for any help for this info.

Let me put it this way. Hollywood studio pay millions of dollars to companies to take weeks to months to convert a single film (and even then, the sloppier results are not so hot) and you think a $1500 TV set will do that in real-time from a crummy signal?

The calibrations that in my opinion looks the best on my set (UN60ES7100) are pretty close to these: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1435194/tweak-disabling-autodimming-for-samsung-eseries-smart-tv-mine-is-es6710#post_22534391

The question was on what types of video inputs (thumbdrive, ota, hdmi, smarthub YouTube app) can this 2d to 3d function of this tv can be activated on. Also want to know if a 3d depth level option exist on the samsung as it does on the lg.

I realize this function will in no way be good as watching real 3d content, and in no way does the performance of this function weigh in on my decision to buy this tv or not. Simply want to know more about this 2d to 3d function as from all my reading never saw answers to my questions so I thought I would ask.

Thanks all.

Hello all,

I recently bought an open box UN60ES7100F at a b/m store. It did not have a box and it came with the following:

1. TV (of course) w/ stand
2. Samsung remote (regular, not touch)
3. Power cord
4. 4 pairs of 3d glasses (NIB)

I'm wondering if I'm missing anything like any av adapters or dongles. I see 3 3.5mm stereo ports on the back for DVI audio in, audio out, and ex-link. What are these for?

If you use the optical audio out, can you use the 3.5mm audio out as well? Or is it either/or?

I was a little hesitant buying this tv open box, but the price was right and I figured I could return it if there was excessive clouding/bleeding. After a week the tv looks great and no problems

Thanks in advance

thats what I'm saying....just like the whole "smoothing effect" done by the tv in 240hz.....I have my turned offf....the whole thing is a big gimmick....it loooks fake anyway and it causes big time lag....Interpolation is what is is...inserting extra frames per second...it will never be the way the directors and movie studios intended to be.

just say no to interpolation.....

How do you guys like your es7100's PQ compared to the e7/8000 plasmas? I'm probably returning my 51e8000 because of slight IR and buzzing, looking to get into a 55es7100 or 55es7003. I love the PQ but the buzz drives me crazy. And experience with both? Any idea if the 7100 warrants the $300 over the 7003?

acutally its better for bluray discs and video games if you are watching a reg cable channel in hd it does look fake and it looks like they are roller skating or GLIDING effect i would make the motion either CLEAR settings or CUSTOM and set jitter to 1

Samsung just approved an ES7100 in exchange for my ailing D6900.

What should I expect from this HDTV...good and bad?

Does anyone know if the Disney WOW calibration feature is the same found on the recent Finding Nemo 3D? The Finding Nemo 3D disk has a feature to calibrate your TV and I'm wondering if this is the same as the one found in the Disney WOW I read here. Thank you!

Pirates Cove

once you get the settings down as described in post 631 you will be more than happy.

I would suggest that you do not update the firmware keep the factory settings because there is a conflict with Yahoo when playing a x box or apple device.

There is no point to reading the settings until you get the set. There is no specific instructions with the set but its buried in the TV probably the same as your 6900

you can print instructions from the samsung web site

enjoy

Hi all,

I purchased my 60" 7100 last Monday and have been very happy with it save for the CE dimming and clouding issues. I will let the TV break in longer before I massage it (unless advised that it's not too early to go ahead and do it).

As for CE dimming, my understanding is that it is disabled in Movie mode. I've heard that, overall, Movie is inferior to Standard and Dynamic. Is this true, and why if so?

Also, in terms of avoiding CE dimming and still getting the best picture possible, would I be better off configuring Movie mode such that it can be just as vibrant as Standard and Dynamic, or can Standard and Dynamic be configured in such a way that CE dimming would not be triggered? Just wondering which is the better approach, and which settings I should apply. Here's hoping for an eventual firmware update allowing the viewer to control CE dimming.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think Movie Mode is the best mode.

I keep going back to movie mode too.

I used ticman's settings from earlier in this thread, they were for movie mode...so I just used the same settings for standard thinking I may like it better sense I do have some clouding in the corners during very dark scenes sense this mode allows for micro dimming. I like the results, I've been watching everythin in movie mode, but now I think I will only watch TV in movie mode and watch blu rays in standard.

NOTE: I have tweaked ticmans settings, if and when I'm happy I will post mine. I'm still learning and still have questions as I've had the TV less then a week.

What's the story on natural and dynamic modes? Anyone have any input or thoughts about those modes.

Also, what is this massaging I keep seeing being mentioned?

Do the corner clouds get better when you hang the set?

Also, I've noticed everyone seems to peg out Contrast, but it seems to "blow" out the picture making the picture seem to have a white sheet over it, like your looking through a slightly frosted piece of glass. I don't get it. It also seems to me a lot of settings I see have the BL at 9 or above. I'm liking 9 or lower depending on daytime or nightime

Any comments or suggestions thoughts, I'm holding back on just asking a ton of questions. Not that you can tell haha

And one more note. The Action scenes from the Avengers looks amazing on my set

Do you find that Standard is the best mode for 3D Blu-rays as well?

I tried these settings last night comparing tixman, and I seem to like these better. As usual, it's personal preferences. These settings seem too be really spot on for PQ, but can't go wrong with either of them. I have the ES557100.

Well I had been using movie mode for everything until I copied Ticmans settings (which were labeled movie) into my Standard mode. I'm going to give it a few days and I will report back. Before i did this standard mode was too bright and harsh.

I'm still using the Nitra config. I'll try this one and compare. I wish you could save 2 profiles so you can toggle back and forth for comparison.

It all depends on how you come out of the 'panel lottery'. If you get a good panel then the 7100 can put out a pretty good picture.
