I have had the 60" UN60ES7100 for around 20 days now and no regrets here. I have used it as a PC monitor for gaming, PS3, nVidia 3DTV Play 720P @ 60hz (1080p @ 24Hz is unplayable) and HD Cable TV. Some non-hd tv content looks pretty bad but I don't watch that much non-hd content anyway.

The colors on this TV is jaw-dropping. Compared to my aging 60" 1080p Sony DLP TV this thing is a gift from God. I just wish I was able to play 3D games from my PC at 1080p@60Hz (still researching workarounds and hacks). Other than that, I have no complaints.

I have not watched Blu-Ray 3D on this yet, but I have watched the last Harry Pottter movie in 3d via HBO-HD OnDemand and it looked great (Supposed to have Avatar blu ray 3d and Avengers blu ray 3d before Christmas if things ship on time). 720p 3D gaming via nVidia 3DTV Play was fun, good for adventure games like Skyrim but I think the input response time might not suit FPS type gaming. I recently got a proper HDMI 1.4 cable and see if that makes any difference

Wireless connection is OK but I use my PS3 for Netflix and HuluPlus and it is hard-wired so I have little use for the 'net on the TV. Haven't bothered with the apps.

If anyone here has managed to get full 1080p 3D @ 60hz working on this TV using an nVidia video card (mine's 670 4Gb) please let me know.

ok is it just me or do you gusy battle with the color settings on this set i always gotta adjust my brightness depending on the source sometimes i cant even see things with video games and i gotta changge my settings a few times a day anyone else having this issues or is it my OCD lol

In Movie mode Contrast is set to 94. Brightness 42. Sharpness 12. Backlight 14. Uses AVCHD 709 and Spears & Munsil. TV is in my bat cave so I have only night mode (no day mode to contend with).

Looks like Wednesday I'll be joining the ES7000 "club".

One would think/hope that a different panel goes in the 7100 than the 6100 and that the 7100 is a better panel. But it also appears that different panels are used in the same model depending upon size. ES8000 seems to be a good example. The 60 and 65 get a different panel than the 50 and 55.

My own thoughts on viewing angle is that the further the sitting position is outside the width of the TV the more more rapid the deterioration is in picture quality. Not to say that you will not experience any problems sitting inside the width of the TV. For my 55", looking a the horizontal black bars at top and bottom, sitting on the left side and looking at the right side, the bottom black horizontal on the right side will appear lighter than what I see on the left side is black.. When I move over to the right side, and look left I now see the opposite. The left side is now brighter that the right and the rights side now looks black. This difference is slight but it is there.

For the most part it seems that the SmartHub updates are not dependent on your firmware version. But there are exceptions. One good example is that I can not run the Amazon Instant Video App. Is says I need to update my firmware. I'm on version 1020. With all the recent problems I am glad that I am still on 1020. The old saying is if ain't broke don't try and fix it.

Heads up: If you're on the fence on this TV, now might be the time to act. I just got the 60" set at Best Buy that they sold at next week's (starting 12/16) ad prices. They are selling it for $1,999.99 with a $200 gift card. It's normally priced around $2,200.

I recall this problem being mentioned in this thread but was not able to find the post. Basically my TV's Samsung logo comes up while the TV is off. I made sure that auto-update was turned off. What was the fix for that?

Does anyone know if any of the Ultra Slim Wall Mounts (WMN2000A-C) work on the 7100 series? Non of them are listed to work. The only one that is listed to work is the mini wall mount which I am not looking to get.

Not sure, but this is the mount I'm using...pretty damn slim...hardly a gap between the TV and the wall.

I have a monoprice mount. When I went to relocate the mount it ripped my drywall paper. Looking for something that's not so bulky. The samsung ones look great

Are you using standard mode as that might be a problem due to CE dimming. When playing games I would either switch to game mode or use movie mode, both should disable CE dimming. For example, in Halo when I zoom in with a gun my screen dims to the point of it being difficult to see if I just leave the TV in standard mode.

What are the ideal settings to achieve the smoothest picture possible? I'm a bit confused about the best combination of Auto Motion Plus and LED Motion Plus, and which ones should be left on or off. Also, do any other settings come into play that would affect smoothness?

Go to post 631 there are two sets of settings there. I use the first one and I have my temperature set at cool that works for me.

Leave the settings for a couple of days and if you do not like the first one change it to the second set of settings.

When changing the settings always write down the previous one so you have something to go back to.

This works for me in the Standard Mode

Auto Motion Plus Off you may want to try clear

Led Plus On

Some viewers enjoy the the live look or soap opera look to their picture I personally do not. The live look is called interpolirzation where addional frames are added to the picture to create that effect.
If you want this affect that you have to turn on the auto motion plus to one of the settings provided.

According to the salesman at Best Buy the 240 hz remains on that does not change all that you are doing is changing the software that is associated with it.

The sharpness control will control the smothness of the picture slightly.

After you change the settings watch the tv for for a little while and see if those settings please you.

You have to make an informed decision on which picture set suits your individual viewing requirements

I'm very happy with these settings:

AMP: Clear
LED Motion Plus: On

No soap opera effect and quick motion looks very good (ie football games).

I thought I was going crazy a few times when I saw the logo lit up when the TV was off. I would also like to know if anyone knows how to fix this. I currently have 1024 firmware.

Good morning, everyone! I happy I found this forum as I'm about to buy a 46" ES7100 at my local Best Buy. The helpful and knowledgeable (seemingly) salesman mentioned having the set calibrated after a month, and showed me two identical TV's, one calibrated and the other right out of the box. The calibrated set had a clearly superior picture. Is this adjustment something I can do on my own? He quoted a price of $240 for the calibration. Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, do not pay for them to calibrate it, at least until you've given it a shot on your own. All you are doing is playing with color/backlight/contrast/settings to output the best range on your TV. That said, different units of the same model numbers look better with different settings - especially in different environments. You should start with some of the recommended settings posted in this thread and see how you like them and make adjustments to your needs. I doubt you will find yourself unhappy, or at least, $240 unhappy.

Nope, mine did this a week ago. I just installed 1025 firmware so I'll keep my eye on it to see if a fix was embedded in this update.

The really crazy part is that I usually find this early in the morning with all of the lights off in the room. As soon as I turn on a lamp, the logo goes out...it did this many times. There is defiantly something tied to the light sensor.

A couple of suggestions and I know by reading your posts you are very astute about this tv.

1. Turn the eco sensor off

2. Turn the samsung light off in the set up menu

see if this resoves the issue


Also I am curious did you see a visible improvement with the latest firmware update???

I am still on the original firmware of 1022 and did not want to do anything until they get the smart firmware2-5 second flash issue resolved and I realize this is a different fix more of a software fix than firmware.

In regards to the Logo issue, I've seen it with several firmware versions so it appears to be hardware related. All Light sensors are set to OFF but I still see the issue very ramdomly. If I set the logo to come ON when the TV power is OFF, all seems OK. I only tested this condition for a few days though. I did see complaints about this in earlier posts but there has never been a solution as far as I can tell. With all of the other more important viewing issues that have come up in the last two months, I just think this very small issue has been ignored (at least by myself). Since others are now getting past the other bigger issues, it now seems a good time to address this. I'm afraid this will require a main board replacement unless firmware can resolve it. Usually in my experience as a electronic hardware/intergration engineer, I've seen issues like this and resolved them with different value caps which do affect circuitry stability.

All ECO settings have been turned off.

I'll try disabling the light all together - my wife mentioned this the other day how annoying the light is while viewing the set at night (kill 2 birds with 1 stone?)

The biggest improvement I noticed was with what I would call video compression. The best example of this is when I'm viewing Fox News...their logo is in the lower left corner. With the previous versions of firmware (1023 and 1024), I noticed some "noise" around the logo - more than what I remembered when I bought the set. When I updated to 1025, this issue seemed to go away.

May just be me though...

I picked up the 55" right before black friday at Costco. Went for $1549. Then I just returned it today and picked up the 60" set for $1950 at costco today. Great set! The only thing that I'm not a huge fan of is that the bezel around the screen is a little bigger than the 55". Oh well. But if any of you guys are interested it's $1950 at costco.

The 60" ES7100 is 1800 @ amazon, BestBuy, and many other retailers today. I also have a 10% off Amazon coupon...so would drop the price to 1600 for 60"...the reviews on amazon are pretty average though...do u guys think its a good deal for 1600 though?

Where do you see the 60" for 1800? They all say 1999. The 55" are 1800.

Good luck. After we last talked, I landed on this model as a replacement in case my LN52A860 ever conks out like yours did. Up until some buggy firmware a few weeks ago and a buggy smart app, this one seems to be pretty solid. Read back in the thread for details, I'm only casually following it, and am not sure about the specifics.
