Smart hub is fixed, now what do we discuss???? I would like everyone's input on this. Do you prefer having the Auto Motion Plus set at off, clear, or standard? I recently got my TV calibrated by the Geek Squad for free because I am a Silver Member now with Best Buy. He set it at standard, which makes the picture more real, but gives that soap opera effect. Believe it or not, but I actually kind of like it for some reason. Seems like many people do not. It feels like the actor is real and looks real sharp. What are your thoughts about it?

Monoprice is a supporter of this forum they will have 6ft cables around 3 to 6 dollars

you do not need more expensive expensive cables.

Do a google search there are many articles on HDMI cables quality and price.

However before buying a new one unplug the hdmi cable at both ends then re install them make sure they are snug it does not take a lot of force.

They will come loose if there is tension on the cable.

Its all in the eye of the beholder if you like it on leave it on thats your choice.

Many videofiles have it turned off because it creates a soap opera(live look) to many film based programs.

Personally I have mine turned off

I've had my 7100 for a week now and I love it. No flashlighting to speak of and the clouding is minor. As for the soap opera effect, I also kind of like it. Makes me feel like I'm looking through a window rather than watching TV. I guess we all have our preferences. I'll do my calibrating (Disney WOW) in a couple of weeks after break-in.

Smart hub flash fixed. Woo hoo! Wasn't bothering me too much, but weird. Wife asked, "What was that?" when it happened. My response - "What was what?" :-)

Here're a couple of questions to ponder. Do most people on this thread have their TV set to movie or standard mode? How many of you are using the official CNet settings for the 8000?

I see that there are many new members in the forum and I notice that some of the questions being asked have been asked before and answered.

I would respectfully suggest that you do a site search on this forum samsung 7100...SETTINGS or..... what ever your question is and see if it has already been posted. If you do not find the answer by all means post the question on the forum

I agree it is difficult to read currently 1475 posts looking for an answer but the search feature may assist many of the new members

in their quest for information and knowledge.

I see where you're coming from... I personally have gone through the entire thread believe it or not. I just find myself fine tuning and searching for the best settings for my un55es7150. I'm sure there are others like me.

get the lastest 1.4 hdmi cable...they support 3d and ethernet over hdmi...get the cheapo ones from amazon or mono price, digital cables is either "1" or "0".. there are no magic in them.. so.dont fall prey to overpriced "MONSTER CABLE" nonsense.....

also consider your hdmi ports...mine all died within one week of getting the tv...I sent back amazon and got a new one overnight......if is indeed your hdmi port..your whole module gotta be replaced....test the cables you think you are having problems with a another tv, ps3, blurayplayer, avr, etc...I would rule out the HDMI cable 1st....

There is no RIGHT or WRONG here....its all relative, and personal preferences and choices....

I personally dont like it...Its a NEAT feature..I like the Physics and Algorithms behind it being a software engineer myself..

I for one like to watch the content in the WAY its was INTENDED to by the Directors of movies...read the thread, a lot of good insight in there.....

me too i dont have it one...but if anyone else here likes it...its ok too...there is no right or wrong here....

look at post 631 that worked for me and there are other settings from CNET for an 8000 and individual settings from other members

I like The Ticmxman2 one and it worked for me and I tinkered with it and made the temperature cool(more blue)

I have a es7500, love it so far.

In regards to automotion settings, I love the soap opera effect and how clear everything looks using the smooth and standard settings. Dont tell me about directors didnt intend it that way, blah, blah.  It looks absolutely remarkable and surreal and clear.
 
But..... One thing I notice is the image sometimes flutters, skip a frame, etc.
Is this normal, or is there a problem with my tv? Do other tvs from other companies have the same problem using these smooth motion type of settings or is it just that samsung algorithms for filling in missing frames is not good enough? I believe I have the lastest firmware as my tv tells me I have.

Thanks for any info or suggestions you have.

So just picked up a un55es7100, so far so good. Little to no flashlight, there is a bit of clouding but still need to play with some settings. I used temp settings from this thread until the set breaks in and I can use my Xrite Display one. Two questions...

1. Anybody know or have a link about setting up a harmony remote (in this case a 650) to correctly change the inputs on the tv? It is switching but not selecting the right one, just seems to go down one in the list.

2. Do you think one could paint the default silver X base? My wife, being a interior designer, absolutely hates it. Obviously I didn't show her the tv before I bought it, because I don't care it looks fine to me. Luckily the bezel is so thin that the silver on that is not really noticeable. Think it would be possible just to paint it black?

You can't pick and choose your FW update. You either stay on the one that was loaded at the factory or you update to the current version - 1025. If you do update to the current version, then you have the option of in the future to apply a future FW update. Assuming you have the correct Update options set in the Menu system. With this year models hitting retail in Q2 I'm not expecting to many more FW updates.

For select Sports I set AMP to Clear. With everything else I leave it off.

Honestly, I find Standard and Smooth distracting and surreal.

+1, I also hate the Silver Chicken Legs / BSG Cylon Basestar design - eek.gif

I have a D series normal black flat rectangular stand with the clear connector on my ES7100. cool.gif

The ES6500 has a black four legged stand...it looks better, not good - but better. tongue.gif

hey bro...to each its own...theres no right or wrong answer...some people like it..some people dont.....

but thats the nature of the beast....

Samsung models with Auto Motion Plus do not repeat frames in the same manner as traditional TVs. Instead, the Auto Motion software creates its own additional images(INTERPOLATION) in order to show 30 unique frames per second.

The software estimates where objects should be located on the screen at a specific point in time based on their locations in related frames. Using this software, Auto Motion Plus creates six additional frames per second to smooth out the picture quality for viewers.

As far as lag, choppiness, skipping, flutter...thats normal...its give and take...you cant have your cake and eat it too...

personally i have it on clear... its all about your personal choice...gotta respect each others choice.... biggrin.gif

Interesting so the ES6500 stand fits the ES7100? I wonder if any other stands work, like non-Battlestar shaped?

I believe that most Samsung ES and D stands are compatible for 46 and 55 inch models.

60-65 inchers may also be interchangable between ES and D models.

All ES models should be similar, yet limited to HDTV screen size.

Are any ES7100 owners having any issues with 3D crosstalk? I'm not sure if this is a problem with my specific TV or if I should expect a little crosstalk for this TV? I'm also using a Panasonic DMP-BD220 as my main 3D bluray player.

Different models but same brand.....I've had both the 65ES8000 and the 60ES8000..... and I can tell you that the 60ES8000 3D is terrible compared to the 65ES8000. Not sure if this is a quality control issue with me receiving three bad 60ES8000s in a row 3D wise, but on the 65, the 3D image was crystal clear with hardly any crosstalk in sight. I wound up exchanging the 65 for the 60 due to so many comments about the 60ES8000 not suffering from the vertical banding issue plaguing the 65ES8000. Boy did I make a mistake, the 3D on the 60ES8000 is riddled with crosstalk from popouts that on the 65 that were crystal clear to the same popouts on the 60 with severe ghosting. The worst aspect of the 60ES8000s 3D is the inability to display certain backgrounds..... for instance on Kung Fu Panda 2 3D, many of the interior shots like the beginning of the movie where Po is eating the buns as well as the scene where he meets his trainer with the big dragon statue.... both scenes suffer from severe blurry/hazy backgrounds where as on the 65, those same backgrounds are razor sharp.

I have it set to standard most of the time BUT here's something no one has said about the microdimming feature, it's really annoying when you have subtitles on the screen, they flicker all the time and also make the image brighter than it should be, at the beginning I thought it was interesting just to see how it worked in real time but now unfortunately I have to put it in movie mode every time there's subs on the screen which in my region is probably half of the time frown.gif

Thats strange that you had so many problems with the 60ES8000 Ive heard nothing but good things from a friend who has it. I'm not entirely sure if he knows what issue I am talking about when it comes to crosstalk but I just havent been able to get over there to check it out because of work and school. Any chance that there is some weight to these Monster 3D glasses I am hearing good things about? Apparently you can manual adjust a few settings to greatly lessen the crosstalk effects. The problem I believe with the Samsung 60ES8000 is that particular model uses a Sharp manufactured panel which greatly reduces vertical banding at the expense of excessive crosstalk. Most 60ES8000 owners would have no idea that the 3D is not supposed to look the way it does on that set because they either have nothing to compare it to or have only watched a limited amount of 3D and have not encountered the issue on a large scale yet.

I own close to 70 3D blurays and have watched well over 120 or so 3D blurays so I know which movies can cause severe crosstalk issues on the 60 model. Alot of the movies will play fine with only minor instances of the 60s inability to correctly display the background, while others like Kung Fu Panda 2 are unwatchable. There was a whole conversation about this issue awhile back due to people noticing the effect on the Avengers 3D bluray.

Essentially, if 3D is important.... than understand that the 60ES8000 does a great job minimizing crosstalk for things in the foreground, but at the expense of creating crosstalk for things in the background. I'm not sure if the lower models use the same panel as the 60. Not a dealbreaker for most people, but for me who has had multiple sets to use as a reference for what 3D should look like.... I knew immediately after testing three 60ES8000s that is was inferior to the 65ES8000 and 65VT50 for 3D performance.

Standard for Xbox360.

Now that everyone is posting their AMP settings I will tell you something interesting that I noticed the other day, if you watch a movie from a 60i or 60p source and set the AMP to Custom and then put judder to 0 ( and blur 0 or 10, it doesn't seem to make a difference) it appears to activate the reverse 3:2 pull-down, which means it now displays it properly at 24fps. This is weird because I thought that's what Film Mode was all about, but then why it makes no difference if it's off or auto1/auto2? And why it also works with non-interlaced inputs?
It's hard to notice it because not everyone sees the difference between 3:2 and real 24fps but give it a try, next time you see a movie turn on and off AMP (judder 0, blur 0-10) btw it also works with Netflix, old DVDs, video files etc, nice smile.gif
