Question:

How does the ES6900 compare to this set?
So far so good with my set! Practically 0 flash lighting with 10 backlight and 10 seems bright enough! I had a question about 3D. When I play black ops 2 in 3d my Xbox downgrades the signal to 720p. Is this right? It's my Xbox doing it obviously and not the tv. The 3D is good with no crosstalk. A little sickening though when playing multiplayer cod. The 3D adds a little input lag I noticed but that's okay because I would probably only use it for campaign or games that it didn't matter.

Viewing angle isn't much better than the d6000 but not much worse than the Sony hx850 which was supposed to be so good with viewing angles(it wasn't). I love the aesthetics of this set. Love the chrome x stand too. Was going to get a stand with mount but maybe not now cuz I love the stand so much!

Question... Does anybody know if the 7100 series uses the Digital Natural Image Egine that I know the es8000 series has on it's main board? I saw a photo of a es8000 main board and it showed that chip but I can't seem to find out if the 7100 uses it or not. I think I recall my old Samsung having a feature that was named DNIE On/Off which I like On since it seemed to display truer colors. Since the 7100 doesn't have that featuure, is it possible that the 8000 series has a better display engine all around?
Just received my 60" 7100 today and i have been playing with it all day. i wasnt able to play 3d .mp4 movies via usb but it worked when connected my usb drive via Roku.

One issue i have i get an audio cut out when i am using the TV's Optical out connected to my receiver. seems like every 5 secs it would drop an audio signal. I have a two yr old Smasung 6 series LED this doesnt happen to my older TV.

I simply disconnected my old optical cable and connected it to the newer Samsung TV. I know not a lot of use the optical out but is there nnyone else having the same issue? Yes, set it to external just like my old LED TV but didn't fix the issue

Thanks!

It does not. Take a look at Amazon's comparison chart. It comes in handy. Scroll down to find it

Thanks, PiratesCove, I'll feel better about updating now.

pappaduke, be sure to post how you like the Disney calibration.

BTW, is there some special trick to getting the quote feature working on an iPad? The quote button does nothing for me, so I'm thinking I don't know how to use it.

dom89 Thanks for the responce. I did check the chart and unless I missed it, I did not see the DNIE functionality listed for any ES series TV. I know for a fact the ES8000 has it so I am not sure why it is not listed in the chart. They did list the DNSE functionality but that relates to a different sound engine chip which is not included in the 7000 series TV's. Any body else have more information on this DNIE chip included in the 7000 series?

Hi gang....been lurking in this thread for a week or so now. My brother came home with an LG 55 inch LM7600....we both didn't care for how dark it was and thought the viewing angle was not that great. He returned it and we brought home a 55es7100 and he is very happy with it. That all got the wheels moving (thinking the $1499 price tag was a good deal for this TV) for me to upgrade my Samsung 46 inch LNT4661......~4 yrs old or so. Thats going to the bedroom to replace an old tube Mits and I came home with my own 55es7100 yesterday. Wife at first was not in favor of a new TV but now that it's home she loves it. Biggest issue I have (and was concerned up front about and main reason I didn't even really pay much attention to the plasmas) is the glare. My recliner is at the perfect angle for the double french doors that are all glass (yes they do have blinds on them but still pretty distracting glare/relection with them shut). Had it on this morning and the glare is pretty bad. (The LNT4661 has a matte finish that must have done a really good job because I never really gave the glare issue any thought while watching it) Anyhow, the 30 day BB clock is ticking and wanted to get your opinions on the glare issue. I really like this TV in the evening (and I have not really even began to try to finetune the picture yet) but watch a lot of sports on the weekends when the sun is up. Is dropping down to an ES6500 going to be better or is it the kinda thing that you just gotta deal with it as all the new TVs are going to be worse than my LT4661? Another complicating issue I have is that the 55es7100 BARELY fits my cabinet (wife isn't changing that as we have a good bit of money tied up in the entertainment center furniture) so I only have 48.5 inches to play with for width. If I drop to the es6500 I have to go to the 50 inch. The es7100 has that ultra clear panel right? Is the es6500 not having that going to make glare significantly better or only marginally better.

Bottom line.....
1) Any of the new LEDs are going to have some glare/reflection issues so buck up and deal with it

or

2) Pick your poison of having a better picture but having some glare/reflection issues or get a TV with significantly better glare reduction but not having as good of a picture quality and possibly having to drop to a 50 inch or something like the sharp 52 inch because of my width restriction. Also probably means dropping from the 240 hz to a 120 hz......not sure I could see a huge difference at BB in terms of the motion. I know the whole 120 vs 240 is a whole other debate.

BTW.....3D (which seems to be a byproduct of getting a better picture) and internet are nice to have additions but not going to be used very extensively by me.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I'll keep you posted on the WOW disc. When you touch the quote button on the iPad you should see a blue bar at the bottom of the of the screen. It says quote and reply. I'm assuming you are using the mobile version.

I went from the un60es6100 to the un60es7100. The 6100 has the same panel as the 6500 I believe. Could be wrong. It also wasn't 3d. I have noticed an extremely better picture quality in the ultra clear panel. Sports is also better on the 7100. 240hz does make a difference. Hockey on the 6100 I noticed a good amount of studdering. Barely any on the 7100. I won't go backwards. For me, it's a way better tv.

I was looking at the ST50 and really leaning towards a plasma to replace my Sony 50A3000. The one thing I was not looking forward to was the heat output from a ST50. My TV is in a small room (8.5' X 14') and the A3000 was a nice space heater in the winter but a cooling problem in the summer (don't forget the added fan noise to keep the bulb cool). The 55ST50 would be putting out more heat than the 50A3000. I was a bit surprised at this and confirmed this by going to BB and running my hand around the back of a 55ST50 that was mounted on a wall. Also looked up the watt usage for these TVs from the CNET reviews. I would still have to worry about the 'buzz' issue but the final straw that killed the ST50 was IR. Because the 2012 Pannys were brighter than before this seemed to increase the potential for IR problems. I just did not want to have to baby the ST50 for the 1st 500 hours in hope of preventing IR.

Since viewing angles would not be a problem LCD became an option along with the greatly reduced heat output. At the current price for 55ES7100 ($1500) the value proposition goes from 3 stars to a solid 4 maybe even 5 stars.

PQ the GT50 should beat the 7100 but as you can see there are other variables that one looks at in making a decision. I am not happy with the 7100 but I am satisfied.

Yes, that works. Thanks.

I've just encountered another problem. When I tune to a DTV 3D channel. I get a side by side picture which I've seen before, but the TV used to automatically change to 3D mode and every thing is fine. Now it stays in side by side. I go into setting and I don't even see an auto mode for 3D. I have to select the correct mode manually. If I change to another 3D channel he problem occurs again.

I've still not updated my firmware, but this firmware used to work for 3D auto mode just fine. Any ideas what's going on?

Has anyone experimented with component inputs versus HDMI for watching SD content? Standard HDMI cables give a fuzzy picture, I doubt high spped HDMI would do better with SD but maybe Component would

I to chose the 7100 over panny plasmas for the same reasons. Heat, power consumption, IR and not wanting to manage how I watched TV. +1 to your comments.

I had no idea there was an auto 3D mode. I usually look through the manuals for my toys but the manual for this set sucks. Guess I'll have start with finding out about auto 3D.

Not sure on the DNIE, but picture quality is very solid.

No color gradient banding...smooth color transitions and great picture resolution.

I use the optical audio out and I have no issues. Might want to reset (unplug) all of your devices and then plug it back in. Sounds like a confused handshaking going on.

There is definitely more glare on the 7100. But for me it is a tradeoff. I've just adjusted my lighting in my living room. The wife was super excited to buy new curtains.

Should I remove the the red and blue tape on the lens of the 3d glasses that came along with the 7100 Samsung SSG-4100GB
post #1678 of 2637
Beowulf62 Regarding the red and blue tape... Only if you want to use them. Thy are just protecting the lenses. By the way, Im now out of my return period and have NO regrets . The TV is getting better with each week of useage. Weather or not the 7100 has the DNIe chip inside, the picture quality and color reproduction is OUTSTANDING on my 46" 7100 as PiratesCove had mentioned.
