Thanks

I just bought my 55" 7100 last week, so it hasn't been on very long yet. I've read some comments about the TV needing to break in for 40-50 hours or so. Is this true, and what happens after it does "break in"?
Also, i get the clouding around the edges, mostly lower, from what i've noticed, and also read that it eases up after a while. Also true?
Since i bought my TV from Best Buy, and being a Silver Rewards Member, i get a free calibration. How long should i wait before getting it calibrated? I'm thinking sometime after the so-called break-in period? Anyone have experience with Best Buy calibrating their TV?

I used the standard setting from this thread

Works really well.

Also Halo 4 and Uncharted 3 (in 3D) looks stunning!!

In game mode you have to use standard. Becareful setting up colours/ brightness etc. using Halo 4 as it uses it own lighting engine that may throw you off. for reference my settings are all default except the backlight/contrast/brightness, also the only time I use gamemode, Any Gears of War game
my settings backlight 14
contrast 77,
brightness 49

advanced:
Dynamic contrast low
black tone dark
color sspace auto

Picture options
color tone warm 2
digital noise filter off
mpeg noise filter off
hdmi black level normal

I do not like Gamemode so I use Movie settings as follows
movie
backlight 15
contrast 90
brightness 47

Advanced settings
Dynamic Contrast low
black tone dark
color space auto
10 p white balance on

Picture options
color tone Warm 2
digital noise filter off
mpeg noise filter off
hdmi black level normal
auto motion plus clear
led motion plus off

P.s. Halo 4 completed Legendary Solo

Anyone got the color accuracy of movie mode in standard mode yet? I'm also not a huge fan of warm 2. I more prefer warm1 or standard.

I got my TV in mid-December and I had quite a bit of edge clouding for a good 3 or 4 weeks. At that point, I cleaned/massaged the edges and gave it more time to 'break in'. Now, after about 6 weeks after purchase, I can hardly see it. That was my experience.

I also bought mine from BB, I'm also a silver member, but I'm not bothering having anyone come out here to calibrate it. I started with some of the specs people have posted on here and tweaked them to my individual liking.

I noticed that the tv seems "dim" on dark scenes. Kind of hard to explain it. On a dark scene in a movie, when I press the menu button on the remote the menu also seems dim, but when the scene changes to a bright scene, the menu lights up again. I have turned the eco sensor off, but I am still experiencing this. Even when I am flipping channels, the info boxes, playstation 3 menu (when you press the PS button, and the black menu pops up) I notice that the screen dims too much. The only way those things dont dim is in movie mode.

I've turned off the Eco sensor, and turned up the back lighting, and turned off energy saving. I'm in standard mode. But I've tried to replicate the settings of movie mode, but the screen still kind of dims during dark scenes, unless the tv is actually in movie mode. It seems as if its the eco sensor adjusting to the brightness in the room, but its turned off, and its adjusting to the brightness of the image on the tv.

Is my eco sensor going wonky? Tv is 3 days old, 60", December 2012 build.

this thing is a nightmare. I still think mine is a little dark to my liking, but setting the brightness/contrast/backlight any more affects overall look in games.

Try turning off "Dynamic Contrast" (if it is even turned on). It's under the Advanced Settings within the Picture Menu

One issue i have i get an audio cut out when i am using the TV's Optical out connected to my receiver. seems like every 5 secs it would drop an audio signal. I have a two yr old Smasung 6 series LED this doesnt happen to my older TV.

I simply disconnected my old optical cable and connected it to the newer Samsung TV. I know not a lot of use the optical out but is there nnyone else having the same issue? Yes, set it to external just like my old LED TV but didn't fix the issue

Thanks!

Due to a lightning strike last fall (that went up through my modem/router and through the LAN cable to my A/V receiver), the LAN and HDMI ports no longer works on my receiver. Thankfully, that was all that stopped working in my HT setup. To work around this, I have all HDMI going to the TV and then the audio going out the optical port to my receiver. So far, I have had no issues (but have only had this TV for a week).

Like andyboy said, you might want to reset (unplug) all of your devices and then plug it all back in. I didn't have to change a thing to get it to work. I didn't even set it to external speakers right away and it still worked (just had to mute the tv at first until I found the setting in the menu).

I think hes talking about CE dimming which i guess cant be disabled in standard mode. On my old d6000 this could be disabled by adjusting the shadow detail setting. Unfortunately this setting has disappeared on this set.

The dimming isnt really bothering me but its stupid it cant be controlled. Since my set has no defects i will not be returning because of this. Since i think its only dimming the picture and not crushing detail.

If the 2013 sets dont do this ill be pissed i didnt wait but oh well

I finally bought this TV (60inch) from Costco after living with a small 37 inch for 6 years. So far so good, huge improvement obviously - however, I did notice the "clouding" issues that have been referenced in this thread. Didn't notice it at first, but I turned off all the lights and watched a dark scene that had a few seconds of solid black. Turning down the contrast and backlight to around 10 helped a lot - and for most of the time, it's not noticeable at all. A few questions:

1) I've only had the TV on for about 2 hours total - does "breaking it in" actually do anything and will clouding become less noticeable?
2) What exactly is the difference between clouding and flashlighting? Are they caused by the same thing?
3) For this model - is there any set out there that will absolutely NOT have this issue at all? Or is it just something we all have to live with to varying degrees? I'm trying to see if it's worth exchanging the TV - but given it's size, and the effort I would have to put into packing the old one up, setting a new one up, testing, etc. - just don't know if the benefits are worth the cost of effort. I would hate to go through the whole effort only to find something similar with another set. Curious about others' experience with exchanging and whether or not you found a significant difference between panels.

Thanks in advance for your help!

CE dimming can be almost completely turned Off in Standard mode just by turning up the brightmness to at least 46. Thats where my US02 panel falls into excellent blacks without black crush. You can still set Dynamic contrast to High as long as the Dark settings are set to Off in Advanced Mode. There are earlier posts about 1 1/2 months back that turn up the brightness and turn down the RGB offsets to achieve very good calibration (good blacks). Go to pg 29 post # 854 by EAnglum. Although I don't need to use these settings with my panel, I did try them and it did work really well to stop CE dimming in Standard Mode.

It doesnt bother me enough to monkey with that. Are there no LEDs with good viewing angle???

Why do ipads and macbooks have almost perfect viewing angles but these big led tvs from all brands suck at producing a rich contrasty picture even a few seats over?

Samsung refuses to use IPS panels which are gonna have better viewing angles. You could try the LM7600 which has an IPS panel but there are other factors and trade offs in each display and you may end up liking the Samsung better anyways.

Any one try to use last years Samsung qwerty remote on the es7100? I know people confirmed the regular IR remote side, but has anyone tried the qwerty bluetooth side and get it working with this year's 7100 series?

Good question...I had the QWERTY Remote for the D6900.

I returned it when I got the ES7100.....I wonder it its compatible.

Samsung released another QWERTY for 2012:

Same here...for now. I also have Best Buy Silver and the free calibration.

I like my current settings...I doubt Best Buy will nail a much "better" image.

If I hear about another ES7100 owner's excellent experience...I'll reconsider.

1) For some TVs, yes others -no it varies.
2) Flashlighting is in the corners, clouding is brighter spots- both caused by panel stress.
3) Possibilly, its called the "Panel Lottery". You are right its not worth the effort to seek out the "Perfect Panel".

Exchanges and Fixes are a big headache...unless you have major issues like banding (don't ask ignorance is bliss). wink.gif

The only Samsung LCDs with good viewing angles were the A850s and A750s at around 65%.

The ES8000 is okay at around 40% viewing angle.

The ES7100 has the "lesser" viewing angle of around 25% - after which the picture "washes-out".

Yeah im a samsung or apple guy. Just dont get why samsungs old panels were better with viewing angles...

Actually the link you provided is for last years D series tvs with Bluetooth capabilities. I wish they would actually make one for this years models.

So you're using it now with you es7100? and the qwerty keys work in smart hub? any issues with pairing over bluetooth? Can you do me a favor and see if you see a model number anywhere on the remote? thanks in advance.

yeah....I'm just trying to confirm before I go out to buy one. BB said the ssg-3100gb 3D glasses wouldn't work. took a chance anyways and bought a pair and sure enough they worked on the es7100. Just trying to see if its the same scenario with the remote also.

Maybe, mine came with the BN59-01134B , the leds didn't light up.

You are right the 2011s and 2012s work together.

I bought the SSG-3550CR (2012) glasses for a D6900 (2011) and they worked.

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs-accessories/SSG-3550CR/ZA

They also work with the ES7100.

when you refer to the leds, are you referring to the keys? or are you referring to the small display on the qwerty side? I always thought Samsung uses these model numbers interchangeably.
