I was hoping both would lessen overtime but really hasn't. The flashlighting is what bothers me the most as only one corner is brighter than the rest and can be seen on dark screens when watching movies. Wouldnt bother me as much if it didnt show up while watching in the dark. Whats your manufacture date btw....

I am quite surprised that Samsung would put a Sharp panel in their own set. They are probably the largest manufacturer of panels. At one time they shared a factory with sony in Korea, who sold their interest in the factory to Samsung.
One thing of interest when I purchased the my set in January 2013 and the set was manufactured in Tijuanna in January 2013.

Are you certain on your information that you have a sharp panel?

I have a little flashlighting on the set but the 100 hours is not up. One thing I did note when I had the 55 inch there was less flashlighting.
These sets are not perfect and that is one of the inherient problems with side lit sets. I have seen many posts on this site about massaging the set to get rid of the problem but I believe that is a very dangerous procedure as you can break or damage a pixel then you will have a more noticeable problem.

I have has asked some of the members about the procedure and they respond that they do it gently with a soft cloth

Reportedly the HS01 is a Sharp panel, and the TS01, TS02, and US02 are supposedly Samsung panels. CS02 is Chi Mei. And the general opinion is that the Samsung panels are the better panels. But apparently Samsung doesn't make a 60" panel. And that doesn't necessarily mean the other panels are inferior, it just depends on your preference.

Give me a week and I will check out my panel as I have fled to cold north. I will check it out when I return to Florida Is there a source on the web that gives this information???? Just interested cause my second set is a Sony and I was wondering who produced a 60 inch screen for them?.

Sharp is big producer of 60 inch tv and bigger.

When I originally bought my 55inch the premium for the 60 inch was 900 dollars then a sale came on and I was able to upgrade for 200 a big differance. The manager in the store explained to me that Samsung charged a premium for a 60 inch but the 8000 and up series offer a 60 inch and bigger .
I believe Samsung would have the expertise, to cut the larger panels in their own factory.

It all boils down to dollars and cents and the manufacturers claim there is not a big margin` in consumer electronics so to defray costs Samasung may have purchased their larger screens from Sharp as you are suggesting

Sharp and Samsung are thebiggest producesrs of the larger screens then come the Chinese and Taiwanese who are expected to be the bigger producers in the forth coming years..

I also have a 60 inch HS01 panel for about a month and I'm loving it. I'm using cnets ES8000 calibration
And I'm very happy with the results. Just played some NFS most wanted (the new version) and it looks
beautiful. The game has a few pages for calibration and it all looks great.
I use movie mode for the 360 set to expanded color.

Have you experienced any flashlighting at the coners or clouding anywhere while watching in the dark or on dark scenes?

Turn down the backlight if you do. That's all.

Try the setting the Eco Sensor On, mine is set to 8.

Also turning down the Backlight (as mentioned above) can lessen flashlighting.

Actually I have the backlight turned down to 8 and still can see the flashlight and clouding. Any lower than that makes the picture way to dark. It wouldn't bother me as much if all the corners had similar flashlighsing....but my top left corner is brighter than the other three.

And btw Pirates your picture settings are awesome and that's what I've been using with just the backlight turned down to 8.

Glad the settings are helpful....

Too bad on the flashlighting...I had a D6900 that drove me nuts...

The D6900 had Banding and bottom right corner flashlighting.

My ES7100 is happily cloud and flashlight free.

I use Movie mode mainly, yet Standard mode does have micro-dimming to lessen flashlighting.

I had the D6000 and the same problem existed on that which Samsung replaced the panel 2 times until they finally decided it replace completely it so I picked up this model. I've been using your standard settings for the micro dimming. You'd think that if you're spending $2000 on a TV it would be perfect out of the box and defect free.

That's crazy..I also went through panel replacements..3 total.

Also I got the ES7100 as a replacement from Samsung.

Believe it or not older Samsung A, B, and C series had worse clouding and flashlighting.

Believe it or not, A few ES7100s, ES7500s and ES8000s are defect free out of the box.

Samsung is slowly improving (in some areas), maybe the F series will finally get it right.

I watched Star Trek tonight and I did notice some slight, and I mean slight flash lighting on the right side.
It's very little and honestly I was too wrapped up looking at the stunning blu ray version of the film.
I might try lowering the backlight to 8 from 9. Also, I pretty much watch everything in movie mode.

Heads up everyone who is on the fence. The price is back down to $1499 for the 55" at most big retailers, and i'm sure amazon will follow.

Man you had me excited about going back and picking up a free galaxy tab. (I'm still within 30 days of my 55es7100 purchase at BB) I called and inquired about it and they told me that offer excluded the 46 inch and 55 inch. Please post if you were able to get the tab with a 55 inch purchase.

I'm thinking about buying the Vizio vht215 sound bar. Does anyone here use this with the 7100?

That is a very good soundbar in that $199 price range, and it supports HDMI ARC. Would be a good choice for that budget, along with Yamaha 101. But with that one you may want to add an external subwoofer. If you wanted to step up a bit, then Klipsch SB1 Icon is very good, or the almost identical rebranded Energy Power Bar Elite, for around $499 on sale. And the JBL Cinema 400 is also getting good reviews. Samsung soundbars are not bad, but unfortunately they no longer integrate with the Samsung TV remote, which is aggravating and inconvenient. And I actually think the Vizio sounds better than the Samsung.

Here is a link to CNET that will assist some in adjusting their set by eye. Excellent explanation of how to adjust sharpness, contrast and brightness.

They use a samsung set in the adjustment process

Anyone know if in store purchase at costco will match this new online price or will I have to return and order online?

Have many folks ordered online via costco, worried about the actual shipping of such large TV getting damaged, any experiences?

All 60" panels are manufactured by Sharp, in Tijuana all they have is the assembly plant, by the way I'm surprised your TV was made in January and you got it that same month, I live in Mexico and mine was a month old when I received it, it does however have all the labels/box/manual in spanish, probably that explains the delay.

thanks markc72 for the heads up on the deal at BB... we went and got a 55 7100 uso2
so far excellent pic and decent with standard channels. no bleeding or flashing

One question, is there a way to quickly dim the tv ? instead of turning it of ?
On my last LG it had a eco button on the remote when pressed could quickly
change from very low levels of brightness to high levels .

thanks in advance.

I think Costco version is 7150, so it is unlikely they will match the 7100 price. Similar specs but club version to prevent pricematching. But perhaps Costco will place their model on clearance soon, but even their stock may be regulated by Samsung UPP.

Thanks so much for the info! The Visio 215 is tough to find in stores, at this point I might even wait for the 2013 models. I will look into the others you suggested.

Check out post #1861 for links to Sony soundbars. I was never a big Sony speaker fan, but the 550 in particular is very good. If you find it for $300, it's a good deal, as it usually sells for $400. Worth checking out...

I am close to pulling the trigger on a 55" 7100 now that the price dropped again, but I am still afraid of the viewing angle. We will have the set in a room where my viewing angle will need to be decent (if not perfect) through a good 90 degrees. The ~20 degrees some are getting scares me, as it would make only one seat in the room (out of 6) a viewable angle (sofa directly across from tv, 2 chairs on the sides of the room). I have read here that decreasing contrast helps--but do you still have to watch this tv straight on? Thanks!

The ES7100 has an Eco sensor that will automatically adjust the backlight setting depending upon the amount of light in the room the sensor detects. The max backlight used is set in the picture menu and the min backlight setting is set in the Eco Mode menu. Depending upon the amount of light in the room the Eco sensor will adjust the backlight setting to a value between the min/max backlight setting.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for.
