I don't think I'm too far from the router because when you start to set up the wireless network the first thing it does is search for available SSID's and it immediately finds the network name and displays it. I select it and then the next thing it does is set up the network addresses and that's where it fails.

My router is upstairs in a spare bedroom. This TV is one floor down (in the family room) which is also where my notebooks are, and my Sony TV is another floor down, in the basement.

So this TV is as close and closer than other devices that are working OK.

These are my basic settings for all TV/movie use which take account time of day / ambient lightning quite well. They are combination of 2 other previously recommended/calibrated settings with some minor tweaking of my own. When in dark the picture will automatically set to near optimum calibration, but you'll still have punch to watch the TV at daytime in a well lit room. Give them a try and maybe you'll like the picture. Be sure to enter them in the listed order, because some of the first settings will override later ones if entered in wrong order (e.g. adjusting backlight after eco-mode will turn off eco-mode automatically).
Here goes:
Picture/Picture Mode: Movie
Picture/Backlight: 18
Picture/Contrast: 98
Picture/Brightness: 45
Picture/Sharpness: 15
Picture/Colour: 53
Picture/Tint (G/R): G50/R50
Picture/Advanced Settings/Dynamic Contrast: Off
Picture/Advanced Settings/Black Tone: Off
Picture/Advanced Settings/Flesh Tone: 0
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space: Custom
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Red (RGB): 39/0/0
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Green (RGB): 0/50/0
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Blue (RGB): 0/0/57
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Yellow (RGB): 50/50/0
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Cyan (RGB): 0/50/50
Picture/Advanced Settings/Colour Space/Colour/Magenta (RGB): 42/0/46
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/R-Offset: 24
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/G-Offset: 25
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/B-Offset: 28
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/R-Gain: 22
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/G-Gain: 25
Picture/Advanced Settings/White Balance/B-Gain: 10
Picture/Advanced Settings/10p White Balance: Off
Picture/Advanced Settings/Gamma: +1
Picture/Picture Options/Colour Tone: Warm2
Picture/Picture Options/Digital Noise Filter: Auto
Picture/Picture Options/MPEG Noise Filter: Auto
Picture/Picture Options/Motion Plus: Standard
Picture/Picture Options/Led Motion Plus: Off
System/Eco Solution/Energy Saving: Off
System/Eco Solution/Eco Sensor: On
System/Eco Solution/Eco Sensor/Min. Backlight: 10
After this let the TV (and your eyes) set for a minute or two. The eco solution adjusts the image quite slowly towards given settings. And for the audio I think the movie mode sounds much better than the standard mode.

That seems like a lot of backlight to me rolleyes.gif

I agree it is pretty high. That is easy enough to dial back to personal preference. I'm looking for good color pop without being over saturated, good contrast without faces looking like they have a spot light on them. I'll report back after I some more time viewing. I'm mainly hoping the color is improved.

How is gaming motion performance on this display? I tried the ES6500 and had horrible flashlighting over about 75% of the display and the overdrive trailing cause any dark area of the screen to smear as soon as you panned the camera. I was play Deadspace 1-2 , Borderlands (with it's dark cell shades lines) and every time I moved the camera all the black areas will smear. I then returned it for an ST50 plasm and have horrible IR issues so I am thinking about getting this model or the Sony HX750.

I play BF3, COD, etc. on the 7100, I think motion performance is just fine. It will never be as good as a plasma but the 7100 has a refresh rate of 240hz vs the 6500 at 120hz which helps motion a lot and does not smear.

Maybe try manually entering your DNS server but leave IP as automatic and see if it connects then. Perhaps the reason you are getting a bad IP is the DNS is incorrect. Hopefully that will allow the TV to obtain a valid IP from the router without having to do it manually as that didn't seem to work for you.

Here is what I found out today.

My router is capable of 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It's been set to 2.4 up to today. I changed it to 5GHz and the TV worked perfectly.

The down side is, I have a Droid Razr Maxx smart phone and it only picks up 2.4 on wi-fi and does not find my home network when the router id set to 5GHz.

So I can't use the phone and TV at the same time.mad.gif

Can you set separate SSIDs, one for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz, that way you know which one to set your TV to and you will still be able to connect your phone. There are routers that can do that, perhaps time for an upgrade?

I've got Time Warners latest router.

I messed with this all morning and every time I start to stream something it works for about 1 minute and then displays a message that there is no network connection and gives me the option to go back and setup the network. I do the auto network setup and it finds all the addresses automatically, then tests TV to router successfully and Router to network successfully. I then start to stream something and after a minute or so I get the no network connection error message again.......and so it goes.....over and over and over.....

Well enough is enough.....I ran to Walmart and picked up a Roku and have been streaming for the past couple of hours now with no errors, no buffering, and no problems what so ever at 2.4GHz .....it just works........the way the TV should have all along.

On a good note....other than this one little bump....I love this TV:)

Hmm sounds like you may want to return the tv. My 7100 is connected by Ethernet , no problems. But honestly we use our Roku for most of our streaming, no delays, instant on + having Amazon on the Roku, which the Samsung Smart hub does not have is a major plus for us.

Free Tablet at Costco with the purchase of the Samsung ES7150

I bought my 7150 2-3 weeks ago and Costco hooked me up with a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 7.0 today, all I had to do was ask for the current bundle. Thanks Costco!!

I've tried ethernet wired connection and it works fine.......but I don't have a way to get a cable from where the network equipment is down to the TV. I ran a cable through the house, down the hallway, through the kitchen and through the family room to the TV to test the wired connection....can't imagine why my wife didn't like that arrangement:)

The Roku has worked great today.

Can you get the tv internet browser to surf the web? I use other devices for streaming so i can't comment on the wireless streaming of this tv. However i have messed around with the browser and some of the free 3d content and it was fine, slower than a computer but still browses.

Just posting a note as I plan to follow this thread....we just replaced our 8 year old DLP (HLP 4663w) with a UN55ES7100. Quite a difference! eek.gif

Guys I have been a bit unhappy with my picture quality at night. The picture has looked fantastic during the day only to look off at night. I use standard mode most of the time. But the blacks have been an issue at night. I want them to be black not grey, not crushed and to be lacking any noise. So this week I tried backing down the contrast to around 80 give or take a few points and that seems to have cured the issue. Also I read some where that if brightness is over set to 45 or 46 the eco-sensor is disabled so my brightness is set at 45.

I have been experimenting with the other picture modes. One trick I'm trying is using the picture modes for different motion control options. There are some shows, sports that they help and some they totaly foul up. It makes for a quick change by just selecting the tools option on the remote to get fast access to the picture modes rather going to the full menu to get to picture options all the way at the bottom. But of course you need to like the other picture modes for this to be of any help.

You should be able to adjust settings for all the pictures modes to look pretty darn close. For example, I am able get standard mode and movie mode looking pretty much identical (minus the micro-dimming which is not active in movie mode, thus lighter black levels). You should be able to do the same with any other mode, for example in Natural mode it pushes color pretty hard so you should be able to turn color down and adjust the tint and color space to make it look like the mode you normally use (Standard).

Great tip for motion controls.

Dang, I just checked and the motion control setting is not staying with the picture modes after all. Sorry.

Getting closer to getting this TV but have 2 more questions...

1. Can you browse your network from this TV, ie if you have shares setup on your Windows PC can you browse and connect to those shares without going thru DLNA. Currently I use an LG DVD player to browse my shares and play video etc I believe its called 'CIFS' on the LG player. Is this possible?

2. Does anyone know what size .JPG files this TV will display? My current Samsung (5 years old) has problems displaying jpegs that are shot with 16+megapixel cameras.

That's all for now

Thank you in advance

Anyone having issues with getting ARC to work with your receiver? I enable my ARC on the receiver and using a hdmi cable capable of ARC but when I switch to TV mode on the receiver I don't hear any sounds coming from the smarthub apps.

I have a Pioneer Elite SC-61 receiver and bought hdmi cables from here http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3992&seq=1&format=2#description

Its weird, I was able to get it working two days ago. I received sound from the smart apps. But then I tried it again yesterday and it didn't work anymore. Every time I want to have sound coming from the receiver do I have to connect to the receiver using Anynet+? Yesterday it couldn't even find my receiver.
Anytime you are using ARC you need to have Anynet enabled. Also, ARC is great in concept but very spotty in implementation as you are experiencing. I just ran a optical from the TV to my receiver, you get the same sound quality without the headache of ARC, but you have 2 cords instead of one, worth it in my opinion.
