I just want to say that I've had my set now for a couple months - the 60inch 7100 - and I'm still driving my wife crazy because every time we sit down to watch tv together I start saying "LOOK AT THAT PICTURE" - its awesome - loving it

That's what it is all about, personal satisfaction. +1

Just picked up 55" - I read through a few pages and didn't see the exact issue, but I could have missed it...

I have an extremely bright spot along the right edge of the TV... It's probably 1/3 from the top, and is about 4" long and 2" wide at it's widest spot.

I'm thinking this has something to do with being an edge lit LED - but can it be fixed, or does it fade with time? I can forget about it while watching TV, but it doesn't take long for it to come back into my line of sight.

Sounds like you have a bad case of flashlighting or a defective set. You may want to consider taking it back for a replacement.

I've noticed that there is a blur around items on the screen. If you have a person, it is as if there is a halo glow all around them. I do not noticed this on my 19" Vizio viewing the same channel from my STB.

I assume that I do not notice the halo on my Vizio since it is a smaller screen so it has a higher concentration of pixels for the same resolution. Is that correct or is there something wrong or something that I have to do on my Samsung to get rid of the halo?

Set Auto Motion Plus to Off or Clear...

Motion should not show a halo....

Thanks. My return window is up tomorrow and it is going to be a stretch getting it into town.

Has anyone had an experience working with Samsung directly on "flashlighting" issues???

I've seen some reference massaging it away, but I've seen others call that risky. Has anyone successfully done this?
Signal coming in was the problem, as you all suspected. I did not realize that my Verizon boxes were so old that they did not support HDMI. I picked up new boxes from Verizon today and the HD channels look great. Also picked up a blu Ray, but haven't tried it yet. Now to review everyone's favorite picture settings throughout the forum.

Samsung says this is normal with edge lit technology. They told me to wait three weeks with the backlight turned down to 7. That didnt work. I also tried the massaging technique and that didn't work either. So went to bestbuy and told them that I was waiting as directed by Samsung. Now I'm waiting for my exchange which is to be delivered next friday.

If I were you, I'd take it back and try for second one. Some panels are better than others in terms of flashlights...try your luck and see if you get a better one. I'm just hoping my replacement isn't worse than the one in my living room now.

+1, Major flashlighting is too distracting...

Unfrotunately the "panel lottery" is real....

Fix one problem and gain another, no panel is perfect.

No Panel is perfect... boy is that true. Well after 2 months, my panel just developed one dead pixel. I have been totally loving the TV and I'm not sure what to think at this point since I also saw a recent post of a 3 day old TV with a dead one as well. I hope this is NOT a trend starting to show up but as time goes by we will see. In my case I will probably just enjoy the set until the F series come out. Then I'll call Best Buy Warrenty Dept and arrange for a service call. Last year , my panel went bad on my 40" D-6000 long story short, I got a free upgrade to a 46"7100 to match the Ultra Clear panel type since no panel part replacement was avalible. Who knows, this could happen again and I just may end up with another free upgrade to the F7000 series. Does any body know the policy from Best Buy for one dead pixel to get a new panel replacement approval? I don't remember if they have a "Zero" defect warranty or not. Well if not, this issue can't be seen unless you get 1 foot or closer to the screen.

I've already have it set to Clear and it was not just motion. Even if the item on the screen was still, it had a halo. But today I realized that it was not on every channel so I guess it is the way it was broadcasted

My ES7100 was also a upgrade from a Best Buy Samsung.

I had the D6900 with banding and dead pixels (I feel your pain).

Samsung replaced the D6900 after 3 repair attempts, I also requested the ultra clear panel.

I have your same positive attitude, another problem = possible F7100 replacement.

Best Buy or any warranty comes down to convincing people...not just the fine print.

I have also experienced various artifacts and anomalies via. DirecTV.

Some channels are near-perfect, others show minor issues from time to time.

Blu-ray and Xbox360 are more consistent.

I believe its the HDTV's processing of 1080i vs.1080p.

What does everyone do with their older TV if they don't use it in another room? I have a 43" Samsung DLP that i bought new about 9 years ago for the low, low price of $3000, that is now sitting on the floor in my dining room. Still a good TV, but now i feel as though i have to give it away. Replaced the bulb and the color wheel in the last 2 years, and never had any other issues with it. Do you think it can be sold, or should i try and give it to someone? Just curious what some of you do with yours...

I tried to sell my 27" Sony Trinitron on Craigslist for $25 - no takers. Ended up giving it away to a friend of mine whose set died right about the same time.

I gave me 60" Samsung DLP to a friend. When I got that TV I gave my 35" tube TV to a friend.

A buddy of mine attempted to sell an ancient 50" RPTV, 4:3 on Kijiji. He got it back in the mid-90s and it weighed in excess of 200 lbs.. Asking price was $100, then $50, $20 and finally $10. Someone finally called, but they wanted it for free. My friend didn't object. To add insult to injury, literally, he wrenched his back helping him load it into a van. Turns out the guy was sending it to his home village somewhere in Africa. Cant imagine what the shipping cost was.

I had a 52" Mitsu DLP that was only 7 years old, and could barely get $100 for it. People want small TV's nowadays, not monster ones from way back. I would just give it away or keep it.

DOES THE 7100 HAVE A GLOSSY SCREEN or is it semi gloss/semi matte? I know the D series models had the Ultraclear glossy screen. But this year the 6100, 6500 models may be semi matte, not sure. What about 7100, 7500, and 8000? Is US02 panel considered glossy? I actually prefer the glossy panel on the LED series. It looks like TS01 panel may be glossy, not sure about TS02. But does appear that the 55ES7100 model with US02 panel is indeed a glossy screen. But no longer marketed as Ultraclear.

7100, 7500, 8000 are all ultraclear "glossy" panels regardless of weather its a US01/US01/TS01/TS02 panel.
Well some of the 6000 series also use TS02 panels, and I believe they are considered semi matte/semi gloss, not Ultraclear. But the 7100 and above series do indeed appear glossy, and I have seen them in US02 and TS01 panels.

But the first unit had flashlighting all throughout the panel, not just the corners. 3D is great. Sports are vivid and blur free. The dead pixel isn't a deal breaker. Still have a few days to see if I wanna roll the dice on a third unit. Disappointed in Samsungs QC team as the second panel was manufactured last month. Box was punctured but I was happy upon inspection and finding no bent frame or dented panel like my first unit. The dead pixel isn't noticeable from normal viewing distance, only when you're inches away from the screen. Flashlighting is cringe worthy though, hoping a few weeks of use will lessen that problem.

To update, I'm taking my chances on a 3rd panel. If this one doesn't turn out great, I'll get a refund and try my luck with Panasonic or LG.
The 7100 is a very nice TV, but quality control can vary from panel to panel. Hopefully you will luck out the 3rd time.

The Samsung website page for the ES7100 still has Ultra Clear Panel listed in features.

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN46ES7100FXZA-features

Its listed close to the bottom.

I have the US02 panel and its very glossy (I also like).

I just got the tv and loving it. I am using priates cove for the visual settings (thank you so much). I was wondering what are people preferences/equalization for the tv speakers. Whichever settings I try they seem off. I know sound bars sound better but, for time being, is there a preference people use out there?

Glad the settings are helpful.

I use Movie for Sound through the TV speakers.

I have a Samsung HT-BD2T 7.2 Surround System.

I use Standard sound mode. It is the only sound mode that turns on the "Sound Effect" Feature. This gives you access to turn on SRS Tru Surround HD and SRS Tru Dialog. These settings are On for me but try it and see how you like the changes. Also, the Equlizer is also accessable with this mode. I love to use the EQ!
