Thinking about returning this one and getting the 60"
Anyone else have the problem where the 7100 turns it's self on in the middle of the night?
PQ on mine is great in HD, but leaves a lot to be desired in when viewing standard channels.

Is there a way to update the firmware through the TV if you have it internet connected?

My firm ware is 1012.1, TV manufactured in May 2012

You can update it through the internet by looking in the "System" tab and choosing the "Software Update", but there is No update available as I tried this last night.

Standard picture quality on this set is the WORST I've seen in years. We have the 8000 series from 2010 and the standard picture quality is just fine on that model.
Maybe a firmware update for the 7100 with help it's standard PQ.

I've heard of this issue on other tvs, not this one in particular. Sometimes, there is interference from wifi devices (router, house/cell phone, etc) and trigger the on/off command on the tv. If you keep it another night, i would try to cover up the remote sensor with tape or something (test to verify the remote stops working once covered) and see if it does it again. If it still turns on, it's something wrong with the TV or casper wants some tv enjoyment too. If it doesn't turn on, there's likely some interference like mentioned above and going with another samsung probably will yeild the same results. Does it happen every night or randomly?

It happens pretty much every night but it will skip a night every now and then.
I see your message about the 7100, 7500, 8000, What's this about?
Thanks.

I just updated my firm ware over the internet from 1012.1 to 1015. I don't know what is included in the 1015 version.

Maybe it will fix that lousy standard picture quality. I tried last night and it told me no new update available.
I'll give it another try.

Just downloaded 1015 myself and I don't think it helped the standard picture quality at all.
I hope it will fix my auto turn on problem. Time will tell. rolleyes.gif

I don't want to post what it is because i don't know if i'd be breaking forum rules. I'd rather talk via PM so I don't step on any admins toes.

The latest firmware version 1015 is finally on the Samsung site.

This firmware update will improve the following: - Resolves escaping issue while watching movie on VUDU. - Resolves compatibility issue with DLNA devices. - Improves picture quality. - Supports Samsung wireless Audio Dock- Solves the problem closed caption does not show.

Hope it fixes my problem with the TV coming on by it's self in the middle of the night. rolleyes.gif

Updated to firmware 1015 yesterday. When I woke up this morning, the "Samsung light" on the front of the TV was on. Same thing was happening under firmware 1009.

Does just the light come on or the whole TV?
Just the light comes on. TV is off. Seems to happen randomly, during the day as well. Once, after the light went on by itself, it went off by itself. I have only noticed it 3 or 4 times in the month I have had the set - unless it went on and then off when I wasn't aware of it.

On mine sometimes just the Samsung light would come on by it's self and other times the whole TV would come on. I'm hoping with the latest firmware update all will be OK. The Samsung person on the phone said that the latest update would fix this issue. I'm not too sure they know what they are talking about.

Web browser needs Adobe Flash Player update in order to watch episodes on web sites of major TV stations. Adobe web site identifies Smart TV browser as Linux 32-bit, Safari. It gives you 4 choices of which version of Flash Player to download: (1) YUM for Linux (2) .tar.gz for other Linux (3) .rpm for other Linux (4) APT for Ubuntu 10.04 +

Anyone have an idea. I would guess #1 is correct. Can't image Samsung Cust. Serv.ice would know.

Will the Samsung qwerty remote work with the 7100 series TV?
Last year's Samsung qwerty remote works fine with my ES7500. I'm not sure about the actual qwerty keyboard side - that uses bluetooth and I'm not sure if that works, I thought I had read that it doesn't. But the infrared remote control side works fine so if you have the qwerty remote you've basically got an alternate remote.

Desperately trying to decide between this and the 6100.

I can care less about 3D, but the 7100 has the micro-dimming, 720hz CMR, and even slimmer bezel design.

At 55", do you think think those features warrant the $800-$900 price tag difference?

Is there another obvious feature I'm overlooking?

How about the ES6500 model? That one looks like a bargain, only lacking the micro-dimming and audio recognition bells&whistles.

Just got my 60" delivered yesterday. Watched a few BluRays, but yet to configure the display minus turning ECO mode off and switching to movie mode. I noticed on a blank screen I have some screen uniformity issues - clouding (see attached picture). It generally isn't noticeable on most content, but I was wondering if it was about normal for this TV or if I have more issues than others and should exchange it?

Hmmm didn't realize how much the price went on that, would probably choose that over the 6100.

Now, how big of a deal is micro-dimming?

Have not noticed any of this on our 55", you sure that it's not the Denon screen?

In Sam's club the other day and noticed a 55" Samsung UN55ES6150 model.
I'm not sure if this is just made for Sam's or not. The black chrome claw base is what caught my attention. eek.gif

micro-dimming seems like just a bell&whistle on edge-lit sets, not worth $600+ in my opinion, same as the voice recognition feature...

I am sure it isn't the Denon screen as it does the same thing when displaying a black slide from a test pattern or when using my PS3 and it is on a black screen. Although messing with settings I noticed the clouding only seems apparent on Movie mode and goes away when switched to any other mode, Standard for instance. I want to use Movie as that is the most accurate setting, so I am bit perplexed why it would look worse with clouding than the other modes. Any ideas?

Have you tried reducing the contrast and backlight setting under Movie mode and compare?
That can reduce flashlighting and clouding effects - view in the dark to see the effect best.

I am thinking about trading the D7000 for the ES7100 in 46" but this clouding is seemingly much worse than what I'm experiencing on the D7000. Anyone else having the clouding/flashlighting issues on the ES7100?

I had a chance to bring home 3 sets of these, specifically the 7150 that costco has. I didn't return them for the clouding which was there for all sets but very minimal compared to yours. I only returned the first due to a power surge during a storm here that fried the set even when plugged-in to a surge protector and a speaker malfunction on the second. mad.gif But luckily it looks like my third set has even less clouding than the other two.
