Can anyone confirm?

I believe there are options for the TV to auto-download firmware as well as apply the update while in Standby (off) mode. I know my Samsung Blu-Ray (BD-E6500) did a full auto update without me knowing...until I disabled that feature.

Can anyone confirm?

Correct. Even if you have the set configured for auto update downloads, you are prompted to perform the update which you can decline. If you aren't configured for auto update it won't look for updates until you ask.

Are the viewing angles better on this set? The 6000 series of last year has such a drastic color change at off angle viewing. I have heard the same with the ES6100. My father in law's Sony CCFL has great viewing angles. Some light creepage but no noticeable change in colors. WHY?!

so i basically got everything working great except for now i notice when say watching cartoons american dad family guy LOL the faces seem WHITE instead of a peachish color i got a monitor right next to my big screen so its easy to tell the diff is there a way to reset the color settings in service menu ?

I dont post often but wanted to thank you guys for steering me in the right direction. I absolutely love this tv and the settings recommended in this thread has me on the right track.

Turn down your contrast to around 80...this will really reduce the washed out appearance at slight angles (atleast in my viewing environment). If you feel this kills your "blacks", bump up the dynamic contrast and black level a bit....then check it against a calibration video to make sure you are not crushing your black levels.

Hello Everyone,

I just received my un55es7150 last week, all was well until i got upgraded to 1024. now I am seeing a blackish cones on the side..(attaching a picture)...can anyone advice if this a firmware issue or some issue with the TV hardware. This was not a problem during th last week when I was using the TV and also...this keep going away when I switch on after it has been off for some time and but comes back when it has been on for sometime.

Appreciate any advice or help here.

I do not believe that is a firmware issue as a few of us are at 1024 without that problem.

It appears to me that you have a bank of LED's on both sides that are out...maybe a driver board of some type? I'm not familiar with the guts on these sets yet....

Place a service call or return the set if you can - just my $0.02.

Hard to say...but I'd be willing to bet is a hardware issue. Keep in mind that hardware problems can also be intermittent. I have never seen anyone report this type of issue across the entire ES (6,7 and 8 series) line of TV's after doing a firmware upgrade.

The only item you can do is a factory reset and see if that helps.

the 1080p issue def stopped after i unchecked the terms of service for that ******** sync app and that being said the smart hub did more damage to this led then good

Not if some connections are loose. Maybe as things heat up they come into contact again or something like that. Looks very much like a hardware problem. I bet you need to return that set.

Well they are not quite that random (well apparently last year, for some sizes, LG actually did use IPS in some copies and PVA in others!) with these they will all be some sort of PVA or MVA, no IPS and certainly not TN, but at least in some years past they have used them from different makers and it seems that even when it is same the same maker using the same panel, say a samsung SQ01 C-series panel some had stripes and some did not so it must be that certain production lines were doing something differently for some reason.

Printed on the box of my new 7100 is "version HS01". Is this the panel designation that is being discussed and is this a "good" version?

I noted that DD was also greyed out, but after playing with some sound settings and mt STB DD became available and it works. HDMI direct from STB to TV ES7100 series and Toslink to my AVR.

Thing is. I'm not sure how I did it since I didn't know it wasn't supposed to work. Maybe has to see DD before it allows you to select it and it was just dumb luck?

And yes, AVR does say DD on its physical display.

hey guys. I currently have a Samsung LNT52, I believe was one of if not their first 120hz tv that I bought about 6 years ago. I feel it's time for an upgrade and have found the es7100 to be the best tv for me at a reasonable price. I can't seem to pull the trigger as I've gone 2 times to hhgregg to make the purchase and left empty handed. my main concern is the price will drop before Super Bowl or after ces 2013. right now it's on sale for $1597, do you think it would be dumb to buy this tv now with the possibility of it dropping in price in the very near future?

I have a Colorimeter and I am in the process of learning this calibration stuff. Once I get mine in the happy zone, I will post the results. These settings are close to mine but not the same.

Re the sync app. Bought TV on Sunday. Did all updates and it is at 1024. SmartHub installed all the usual stuff. Reviewing apps came across this sync app. Looked at it and decided what the heck do I need that and I either uninstalled it or deleted it. It is NOT on my TV anymore.

I think the trick is not to try and delete it. Go to SmartHub and select Samsung Apps, it is like an app store. Find the sync app and select it. It gives you a description of what it does and if installed will give you an option to uninstall it. At least that is what my memory recalls what I did to get rid of the app.

Again was installed on update on Sunday when I got the TV. I do not have it on my TV anymore and I remember looking at it via the app store and there is an uninstall function on apps there. I noted it is not a Samsung app but tvappvoc is listed as seller.

I just bought a 55 inch 7100. It is replacing a 5 year old 42 inch LG LCD. I have a Denon AVR 1913 receiver. The TV is hooked up with the same cables and same configuration as the old LG. TV input from the Denon, all devices hooked up through the Denon. All HDMI. I have searched the forum, but I have not seen any posts detailing a similar problem to what I am going to describe. The picture looks very nice. But, there is distortion on all devices. The picture bounces and has distortion intermittently. The distortion is sort of a random white noise flicker in seemingly random parts of the screen of very short length. The bouncing is noticeable particularly on things with a static bar at the bottom (e.g., CNN or ESPN). If I bypass the receiver and hook up directly to the television from each source, the problem goes away. The thing is the LG did not have this problem with the receiver. I thought perhaps it might be a cable issue and I have tried various combinations of cables (none of my cables are expensive (mostly monoprice and they were not purchased with a 3D set in mind) but the fact that the problem goes away when I bypass the receiver is troubling. Is this a known issue? I would like to use my Denon video passthru, plus it seems it is the only to get HD audio formats. I pretty much have to have I have too many devices (Apple TV, Blue Ray Player, Direct TV, and Xbox). Thoughts?

Please read the last part of this thread. You need to disable an application called SyncPlus that can be found in SmartHub. Good chance your AVR is upscaling the source to 1080P 60fps which will trigger the SyncPlus issue.





I wonder how many sets have been returned due to this?? It has to be costing Samsung $$$$$$$$

Ah, I see, so this is "judder" then? Hmm. That's interesting. Thank you. I'll give it a whirl.

My decision process was between the Panasonic ST50 and this Samsung. I picked the Samsung primarily because of reflectance on the Panasonic, heat/energy, and image retention (however temporary). But, it was a difficult choice.

Definitely, coz according to the Best Buy Geek Squad, they have been requesting Samsung with so many main boards lately due to the last release of the firmware,...

I had my main board replaced, and I'm currently sticking to 1020.1

thanks for the info perhaps it needs to see the dd signal.

Acording to Samsung help line it is grayed out and not used they could not explain why the icons were therfe but the tv will pass through DD and DTS signal unfortunately I do not have an avr reciver I am using bose cinamate very similar to a sound bar but it is capable of receiving PCM DD DTS.

Where you may be correct is the newer hdmi cable provide two way communication between devices

and that has been around for 18 months now, thats how it works on my denon at my Canadian home
