yeah I'm gonna wait it out and see if it drops back down before Xmas. I'll wait til first week in January if not and buy it regardless cuz i can only assume it will drop in price for Super Bowl. hh gregg price matches 30 days after purchase, not sure about best buy. was hoping to get it tonight, dang. should have pulled trigger on Saturday when I was in the store!

Played with it more tonight. Had Ps3 hooked up but wasn't getting dd. I noted in the audio settings on the Ps3 that dd wasn't checked mark. Did that then went to sound menu on TV and there was dd for optic out. Spidf is what I believe it is called. I also have ext speakers chosen. Before I enabled it on the Ps3 it was greyed out on the tv. Re STB...went into addition HDMi settings on the STB and chose pass thru on audio. Then dd was again available via the tv sound menu.

I do not have a 1.4 compliant avr so not using ARC via HDMI...doing it old school to some extent. I would assume your bar will use dd if the TV ouputs it.

Ha! Me too but was looking at gt50. Store played variety of cable shows and the IR was visible after showing football games during the weekend. The gt50 def had better picture but I knew I'm too anal to deal with IR. I know it's temp but when it's there it's there. I read somewhere someone stated you just have to maintain it like a car. Last I looked there were no moving parts and I'm happy to do breaks, oil change and the likes on my car but my TV?

FYI...Samsung plasma with same feed right next to gt50 had barely visible ir and that was only if I put up a test pattern on the tv not visible during normal programming like the gt. of course, gt had better picture though.

Anyways, glad i dont have to worry about ir but other things with LCDs. I replaced a 5 yr old sony bravia lcd so kind of used to the short commings of LCDs but the tech has def improved. But man did i want that gt.

We also liked the packaging of the Samsung a bit better too.

Thanks folks...will certainly get it returned...and wanted a replacement as I liked this tv before things went bad - but there is none available in a 50 mile

Long story, I have both the Samsung 6150 & 7150 in boxes and need to take one back to Costco. Anyone have a recommendation on these 2 sets. I have been told by a Samsung rep I accidentally ran into at a local Sears that the processor and some other things make the 7150 a better set than the 6150. Is the picture quality that much better with the 3D 7150? I'm not a fan of 3D but would keep the 7150 if the picture is that much better. On comparison looking at the specs of both it would seem so but in practical use is it?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for the update Yes I will check it out when I have a DD signal and see if the icon is available.

It definetly does pass through DD to the speakers.

If you plan on using the apps, the 71xx does have a dual core processor which will speed things up quite a bit. I also think the 71xxx has a better picture than the 6100 when I did a comparison - IMO.

The 3D on our 7100 is incredible...I was not big into 3D until I bought this TV and viewed a few 3D blu-rays...

The picture clarity is nice and I like the movement appearance; I don't like the various motion correction filters. Of course I didn't mind the motion on my 42 inch lg LCD of five year vintage. I have been having trouble with picture adjustment. I've tried some of the settings in this thread. So far I've been having trouble achieving a good balance of whites and blacks. With two of the settings suggested in the thread, the whites look grayish to me. Also, the low black setting creates too much ill defined shadow and a sort of edge enhancement effect, for lack of a better term. Working on it.

Actually the bezel on the Samsung UN55ES7150 from Costco is different than the picture you posted. It looks like the UN55ES7100 has a chrome frame around the bezel. The 7150 from Costco has a brushed metal gray finish.

I'm not sure why they did this. I actually prefer the chrome finish framing so somewhat disappointed when I opened the box. However, sitting in front of the TV, you can't see the finish. Only when you're looking at the TV from the side. Does anyone with a 7150 have a chrome bezel frame??

Talk to the saleman to see if you could get it for original price before it went up. When we got ours the deal they had was a free 32" Sammy with purchase. Price was $1600 something after taxes. I'm surprised it went up in price actually. They should have some Xmas deals coming up though and if you bought now and they lowered the price they should give you the difference back. I wouldn't wait till Superbowl time, yeah the price might go down some but waiting for prices to fall on tech stuff and you keep waiting and waiting, then something else better comes along and you wait for that. Its a cycle of waiting.

I would say there are 5 major differences:

3D: 6100=No 7100=Yes

Refresh Rate: 6100=120hz 7100=240hz If you play games or watch sports the higher refresh rate would pay off

Processor: 6100=single core 7100=dual core, if you use built in apps the 7100 will be faster (as pointed out by EAnglum), in comparison it feels like the 6100 is laggy

Micro-Dimming: 6100=No 7100=Yes, if you only use movie mode it doesn't matter as it is disabled, but if you use any other mode micro-dimming is enabled which gets you better blacks and also helps hide clouding which is inherent in edge lit LEDs

Screen: 6100=standard 7100=Ultra Clear Panel, according to Samsung the ultra clear helps with reflections, I don't know if I buy into that though as my 7100 is pretty darn reflective

I would pay the extra for the 7100 just for the refresh rate and I think micro-dimming makes the image pop a bit more.

rgh43... The 7150 has the Ultra Clear Panel and is a 240Hz TV. The 6150 has a different panel as well as it being a 120 Hz TV. Having owned both TV's, the Ultra Clear is the way to go and is only being used on the 7000 series and higher for the 2012 es series. It was offered last year in the D6000 series.

i called them yesterday and they said there was nothing they could do from what i understand they work on commission, he even went and talked to his manager and called me about 45 minutes later and still wasnt able to.

I got a pair of Playstation 3D glasses which supposedly works with Samsung TVs that remit signal via the IR transmitter. However, I cannot get it to work with my 7100. Then I read that the current gen of Samsung TVs sync up to glasses via Bluetooth?

I picked up a 60" ES6100 when BB had it for $1399 a couple weeks ago and now regret it. Flashlighting is terrible and the view angle is so bad my wife notices pixelation in dark scenes and trust me, that is saying something. Since then the prices at BB have returned to normal but I'm willing to give a 55" ES7100 a try for $1799.

My question is will the viewing angle improve with this higher tier tv and smaller screen or am I chasing a pipe dream with edge lit LED's?

All LCD/LED sets suffer with viewing angles. Having said that, if you adjust the 7100 properly, you can reduce some of the washout....biggest adjustment that seems to help is to keep the contrast low (around 80) then adjust the contrast enhancements to deepen blacks if needed.

I have no problem with the 7100

Viewing angle is always limited in an LCD LED screen. The viewing angle on my sony is a lot less than the Samsung.

If you have access to Consumer reports they indicate the viewing angle narrow ,moderate and wide on sets that they have tested.

Otherwise I would check with CNET and see how they rate the off angle viewing.

Plasma does not have that problems but they have other problems .

7150 has an ultra clear panel for deeper blacks, for one.

How does these ES7100's compare to the ES7003's that I'm seeing at bestbuy? Features all seem to match up.

Some info hints that they are the same other than no apps for the 7003, but it is hard to find a straight story, even on Samsung's site they have some text saying apps is the only difference but then they also show it with the smart app insignia. So I wonder too. Is that really the only difference? If so, then it seems like a better buy.

**** ok i fixed the pink hue issue now back to my smart HUB issue this tv is the worst thing i ever purchased yea some issues are my fault but this 1080p 60 issue is just unacceptable that i gotta come on this site to get the answer and the tech is still coming out here tom. ok so i tried to set the lanaguage to eng and i stil get a german terms of service and i cant find hulu or netflix other then that the tv is working great thanks for everyones help =)

My Tv seems to have this pink hue issue. It's not extreme but It's easy to see when looking at the expert pattern 1 in the Standard Picture mode under the Advanced Settings screen. I get very dark blacks on the left to middle gray in the center. Thats where things get messed up. From that point until almost pure White at the far right side of the screen each color bar has a pink hue within the light gray to white bars and the only pure white bar without this pink hue is the farthest right bright white bar. This is affecting my skin tones as well as my Web browser having pink backgrounds and a pinkish curser as well. Is this what yours did as well? What did you do to correct it?????? I'm so pissed off!! I only have 2 days on my 30 day Best Buy exchange so I have already set it up for this Sunday but I would really rather keep it if I can fix this mess. I believe I've had the problem since the firmware screwed up whitch got me stuck in Dynamic mode.

Any body else that had the firmware issue that had to do a factory reset notice this symptom? I see the slight pinkish problem in every picture mode so it's not just a calibration issue that can be adjusted without the right equipment. I'm not screwing with the service menu settings but mabye they got screwed up during the firmware crash with Ver 1022.

#: UN55ES7100FXZA is the official model of the set. How does it compare to 7103 only Best Buy knows You may be lucky to find a description on the Samsung web site or call them and see if they can assist you..

Two things Best Buy has had this set made for them to prevent price comparision. The second thing is this set could be made for a special sale like Black Friday.

This TV is in the 7000 Samsung series so it should have many of the features of the 7100 but there is no guarantee that they have not removed one or two of the features to make the TV cheaper and to meet a certain price point. It is usually quite difficult to tell.
The salesman in Best buy should be able to assist by printing out the features of both sets.

Best Buy does sell the 7100 it is in their ordering system thats where I bought my tv three weeks ago

Brushed meta,l got mine at costco,I didn't know there was a chrome finish......

i dont know about you guys but after i unchecked the service and agreement on appsync i still did see the jitter issue but less but ever since i locked the APP itself i havent seen it and i notice the keypad unlock pops up every time i start the tv so i think LOCKING The app is the best choice

Why not just uninstall it via the app store?

It is the SyncPlus app you are referring too, right?

Maybe stupid question here, but I feel that the documentation on this set and the settings is lacking. For example, I was starting with Movie mode and working from there but then I read here that mode disables micro dimming. How was that figured out? Is there somewhere where there is more detailed info on all the settings for the TV? I was also trying to figure out why certain options would be disabled, etc.

I have switched to starting out with Standard settings now and have thought about calibrating the TV...though probably just in house and not professionally done. Flatpanelshd.com usually has some pretty good write ups and calibration settings but they haven't reviewed this model yet. Probably can use the 7500 settings if they have that one reviewed, can't remember right now.

when using a .av reciever and upconverting to 1080p is it better to go from 720p to 1080p or 1080i to 1080p when using such devices like fios and direct tv
