You might be right about the brownish color, I really haven't noticed yet since I have no TV signal hooked up yet and only been playing with test blue rays.
How are you liking it so far? Any glaring issues?
I'm really liking the picture quality of this tv. I have it sitting in a very bright room and glare is at a minimum.
That is good. The TV I purchase will be in a room where the sun shines through very light shades so I want to keep reflections to a minimum. How does fast motion look to you? Any blurring?
So far I am really liking this TV. Nothing negative to speak of yet. I have not tested the smart apps and most likely never really will. I would like to stream music from my computer so when I get time I am going to see how well that works. Glare and reflection is not an issue. Off angle viewing does change fairly fast but you almost need to look into plasmas if that will be an issue.

Unfortunately I am waiting for my Hopper to be installed next week so I cannot compare sports or live TV. I spent hours at HHGregg and Costco watching the Browns game on Sunday and the LG looked great compared to the Sharp Aquos next to it. Obviously that is hard to compare due to the Vivid showroom settings but the salesman at Costco even noted the LG does better in that category.

I have a good 4-5hrs of calibrating into my set so far. I am getting really close to done, I just wish I had a live broadcast to really see how it compares. I am using expert mode. I tried calibrating standard mode but it has less options and colors are harder to get accurate. The only problem I am having with expert mode is there are a massive amount of settings that can be tweaked and without proper equipment I can probably make things worse. So I am only adjusting what I can.

I will post up what I have soon.. Just looking into the White Balance settings before I go any further.

Like I said in earlier post I like this TV much better than the Samsung 6100 I had.

I have a european 42LS570S here and the bad viewing angle is distracting me. A german test magazine stated that their test model had an IPS panel, so I think the panel lottery is continuing with this 2012 tv. Apart from the small viewing angle (even for a VA Panel, maybe TN panel?) the overall picture quality is good, considering the price. I noticed the dirty screen effect while watching soccer but it was bearable. SD-Picture with the built-in tuner is surprisingly good. I bought this tv for my sis because it was in the price range and I thought I could do nothing wrong with a 2012 model... Well, sis shall decide if she can live with the flaws.

What is "dirty screen effect"? Anyone else notice a problem with viewing angles?

I came up with some settings. I had a little problem getting brightness set to my liking. One seat is 15ft away straight on and two side seats are 9ft. The side seats brightness can easily be set to 54 and be fine but then the 15ft seat loses detail in blacks. So I turned it up a few notches to compensate. this may change once I get a better feel for what works best.

Tezzmin, overall how would you rate the picture and colours after your fine adjustments.

The LG 42LS5700 that I have in Australia has a very good picture and wide viewing angle with not much
drop off of picture viewing from side. Much better than my earlier generation 32in LCD for viewing angle.

Killerz the TV I have in Aust has a more reflective screen than i would like and you would not want a bright
window or wall or door behind you but this may just be the Aust panel.

Overall however the set and picture are excellent so far and no noticeable reflection at night.

The picture is magic and with scenes with people etc in sharp focus in foreground and with background out of focus you get
a 3D type sense of depth that was not there on my previous generation LCD.

I can see how you could get enhanced 3D effect from this set with the right software.

So far I like them. Skin tones are better overall compared to my Sharp but I can't compare real live TV broadcasting until Wednesday when I get the Hopper. All my tweaking has been done on BluRay only.

I honestly don't know since I never had it done. Only comparison I have is Best Buy has two identical sets and one is professional calibrated ($250) and the other is not. The calibrated TV did show better detail in dark scenes. Only problem is I bet a truly calibrated set takes some getting used to for the average person since we are all so use to a bit brighter "look".

i see. since i owned a HDTV i never used any vivid settings, but i will try how it looks like after calibration. it cost $350. ugh!
I would not waste money paying for a professional calibration as you may not like the resulting tones.
TV settings, brightness, colours and skin tones are a personal preference.

The TV has all of the adjustments you need and you just set it to your tastes.

Picture is magic.

Skin tones are magic.

can you tell me what will be the outcome after the tv gets calibrated?like u said tv settings? i tell u d truth i really dont know what they gonna do to my tv. i just only want to try it. and also they said u will not like the colors for a while until u will get used to it.

Why pay money when you may not like the result and may want to change it again yourself.

If you were thinking of getting it done ask them if any adjustments they make are permanent and not reversible
by the settings available to you on the TV.

Just set it up to your taste and enjoy it.

IMO it has too many adjustments and becomes confusing to user and to suit my taste I have a lot of the
advanced options turned off completely.

We all know how far off optimum factory settings are and how much we change them to suit our tastes.

Even though I don't have this particular TV, I have the 42LK450, I really can't see the logic in spending over $250 for a pro calibration on such an "ahem" affordable TV. Maybe on one that cost closer to two grand or so, but certainly not one that costs almost as much as the calibration. I would recommend purchasing a calibration disk (I use AVSHD, as well as the Disney WOW disk) and get it set up that way. It looks pretty good to me, but then again, I'm no pro.

Not to take anything away from anyone's livelihood, but most people aren't that particular about calibration and probably wouldn't be able to tell much difference. But hey, if you have lots of cash laying about, a pro calibration probably wouldn't hurt.

I'd suggest looking into the calibration sub-forum and get some ideas as to the potential issues that may arise.

greetings.

my set it 55LM7600, and yes just only for my curiosity wanna try the pro cal. so that i can experience how the tv looks like after calibration.

I am torn between this 60LS5750 at $1299 from Costco and the Sharp LC-60LE640U that I can get for $1196. These seem to be the equivalent models for the respective brands. Does anyone know any advantages one has over the other? Best picture? Quality? Options? I would think anyone that is looking at this 60" has considered the Sharp also as these are pretty equivalant models.
I would love to hear objective opinions.
Thanks, Shredo

Read their specs on the Internet and compare their picture in the shop.
Ask salesman to optimize the picture as best he can. Choose the picture you like.

I was told by a salesman the LG 42LS5700 was the best 40 to 42 in TV in his shop at the price.
I saw the picture and was amazed even in the shop.

I read the specs, was impressed and bought it and very happy with it.

Read online reviews of them.

I compared both. Specs are very similar and I own a 46" Sharp Aquos that I am happy with, so I was seriously considering the Sharp. Then I noticed Sharp is selling like 5 different 60" models and I started to worry the cheaper ones had cheaper parts. Take a look on HH Greggs website and see how many they offer. So I started researching the 8470U thinking it was Sharp's better TV but screen uniformity seemed to be hit or miss as with lots of others. I also felt football looked better on the LG in the store and most salesmen preferred LG over Sharp.

I am still playing with the LG's settings. So far I really like it but I must admit 3 or 4 ft to the left or right and the color detail does start to go off a bit. Not a deal breaker but I do notice it. I don't think other viewers would know the difference. Straight on blacks are so deep I am still getting used to it but left or right black isn't as deep.

I bought the 42LS5700 for $650 in the store today. I will let you guys know what I think after a few days.

Most of the specs are something I do not know how important they are. That is why I am hoping to get more opinions from others that know more.
Thanks

I bought the 55LS5700 last Spring and I've been toying with the settings since then. Personally, I think the picture is great. I went out to buy a larger HDTV with the intent of buying a Samsung or maybe a Panasonic but the LG's picture really stood out to me.

The LG smart software is glitchy, to say the least, but I've gotten used to it. Pairing the TV with a Cisco 4200 router has made for a few frustrating nights as they try to out-wonk each other.

Overall, I'm very happy with the TV.

I own three HDTVs: a Samsung 32" LCD that I purchased about 4 years ago, this one, and a cheap 42" Panasonic plasma that I just picked up for the bedroom. I think, considering what I've spent, that I've gotten pretty lucky with the picture quality on all of them.

I just about got the colors set. I hope to test it out and update previous thread. With this AVS709 I might have to re calibrate my Sharp.

Tezz, How's it coming and how do you like the TV? I am really beating myself up over which to get. LG 60" or Sharp. or maybe a 55" LG 3D...... ugh

Anyone else have an opinion on this LG 60" vs Sharp 60" vs.... a 55" LG 3D???

I like the TV but I can't say you wouldn't be happy with the Sharp. I was in the same situation and went with the LG. The LG had everything I was looking for and I knew the same TV at HHgregg was $400 more so I felt like I was getting a deal.

I will never use the apps so can't comment on that. The Sharp you mention and the LG really are similar so it comes down to what picture you think looks better. The LG has a great amount of adjustments but I think the Sharp does to. I had two LG LS5700's and both had very good screen uniformity so I am happy about that. Check out the forums on the other TV's. I felt the fact that this thread has so little activity is a good thing because it means most people who bought it have not taken the time to complain as they are just enjoying their purchase. Or it means nobody is buying it. lol

I don't have much experience with LED as I am a plasma man myself so when I fired this thing up with the default settings I noticed it was flashlighting like a mofo! It was terrible on black backgrounds. Completely nonuniform. When I switched over to your settings it was light night and day. The flashlighting was almost completely gone, blacks are darker and more uniform, and the picture is crisp and clean. However, I do prefer the cool temperature setting although from what I hear that is not the way it is "supposed" to be. I just find the warmer settings so odd and yellowish looking. As for the Truemotion setting, for some reason I only have a de-judder in the option menu. I don't have a de-blur setting. Any idea why that is? I have the 42LS5700 and updated to the latest firmware.
