Advice needed, Upgrade from a denon 4311

What would you expect to gain going from the 4311CI (XT32) to a XXXX (XT32)? Although the specs aren't out yet, I would expect the new Marantz 8007 or new higher "reference" series to have XT32.

I would suggest staying with the 4311. You seem to be happy with the 4311 and how it sounds with your speakers. If you are referring to the Marantz AV7007 there is a possibility that it might not have XT32 as the SR7007 has XT. The AV8007 is rumoured to be the replacement for the AV8003 which will most likely have XT32. The AV8003 will probably list for close to $3K and how much better it will sound than the 4311 is anyones guess.

but I know the marantz seem based on outdated denon models. so would expect it will be based on the current 33 or 43 series denons.

then again as the current marantz pre is basically the 3311 under the skin, so does that mean the new marantz will be based on a 3312 which doesnt have xt32. I cant for myself see the sense going from a 4311 to something based on a 3 series denon without xt32

It appears that the Marantz SR7007 will be based on the Denon 3313 (no XT32). So I would assume the AV7007 will be as well minus the amp section and add XLR outputs.

The 4311 is the current king of the hill. Not sure what you can possibly gain by switching. If you want something with a better amp, I would buy an external amp and use the pre-outs.

The 4311 is supposed to have a replacement (4520?, 4313?) that will come out in either September or 2013, depending on who you ask.

The Marantz models are based on the same year Denon model platforms going back at least the past few years. The Denon 3311CI and the AV/SR7005 all three being released in 2010, the following year, the 6006 based on the 3112CI and, as Bill noted, the new SR7007 is based on the new 3113CI platform. The Denon 4311CI is a level above any of the 33XXCI or 700X series; however, as it has been discontinued, will be replaced in Sep by the 4520CI.

right now, there's really nothing worth "upgrading" to... and realistically, that's likely to be true for awhile... tech has stagnated over the last couple years... the cem's are pushing 4k like crazy, but that's merely fluff*...

if it makes you feel any better, i can definitely relate to the "upgrade bug itch"... after several years of getting a new avr/pre-pro every year, it's almost disappointing to not really have anything to upgrade to from my a100...

i may have to buy a 4520 just to satisfy the itch...

* i'll be first in line for a "good" 4k pj when they get down under 5 figures... but even then, the 4k processing in the avr would be redundant...

I'd venture to guess the new Marantz "reference" line will pique your interest before the 4520CI will.

Since you are already in the Paradigm/Anthem Family, have you given the Anthem AVRs a look? If not, you might want to look at the MRX 500 and MRX 700. The MRX 500 is going for about $1500, and the MRX 700 is going for about $2000, and of course, both come with ARC (Anthem Room Correction).

This thread and your "upgrade bug" are stupid things. You simply can't do better than 4311 at the moment, especially with your relatively slim budget. Good night.

going to be waiting an equally long time for an anthem 900, as they announced quite some time ago that it will not be released...

This economy sucks… plain and simple. That is why you aren't seeing upgrade options and why it has been two years since Denon released the 4311 and there is STILL nothing to replace it with. When the economy picks up (and it will as soon as we quit trying to pick winners and losers) and people again have discretionary income, you'll begin seeing options released at a quicker rate again.

Casino (should I say Wall Street?) always wins. But seriously, the best upgrade would be separate amplifiers. And you can keep them through your next receiver upgrade cycle.

I'm selling my 4311CI myself. Great receiver and all, but I'm going strictly separates from now on. I'm waiting on the Integra 80.4. I want to see what it brings to the table. If it is not released this year, then I'll just pick up a 80.3 and some room treatments from GIK.

Anyone know of a good 9.2 AVR with XT32, airplay, and dedicated zone 2 subwoofer connection?
