While the the fifth foot is supposed to provide additional support that somehow improves the sound of the receiver, it's main purpose is simply to have something physical to distinguish the Aventage line of receivers from their otherwise identical RX-V and HTR equivilents. The RX-V1073, aside from regional differences, is identical to the RX-A1020 except that it doesn't have that fitth foot. It's not structurely necessary so you can just unscrew it if it's a problem.
