best sub for a 2.0 music-only system around $750 or less? - Page 2

BTW: if you want dual subs, turns out that Emotiva has some b-stock on the Ultra 10, the predecessor of the X-Ref 10. You could get two for the price of the single subs discussed in this thread. Here's the review of the Ultra 12 so you can see how it compares to the X-Ref series.

Sorry. One concern that I forgot to check. Some of the subs do not have speaker level inputs. So hooking them up may be a problem with your Marantz amp.

also, anyone have any experience with Rel subs? the t-9 looks particularly appealing.

Yea, I don't think the emotiva xref accomodates that. The manual assumes some base management of the source. That would have been my vote for a musical sub.

Look at the hookups on the back. You need a subwoofer line out to connect this sub.

Looks like there is a specialized high level input, too, on the REL. Probably best to look at their manual and see how it would connect.

its pretty wild - they want you to wire it inline with the speakers...

in reading more, it seems the sub out can be used in tandem with the high level, but idt its needed:

Before the popularity of HT, most subs were wired this way. I stil do on my 2 channel rig. REL says that wiring the sub via the speaker level provides the same signal/character that the woofer in the mains gets providing better integration.

if your in the REL T9 price range, I would seriously consider looking at the Rythmik F12 / F15 models. I have the F15 and it one heck of a performer for 2 channel applications.

For 2 channel only I would go sealed whatever you get.

the f15 is MASSIVE - seems like overkill to me personally

the f12 might be a little closer, like the price to be sure. ill get into it a little bit.

no available professional reviews?

also, although massive, the REL R505 can be had for 1300 from vans in Rosewood, which would match my floorstanders.

that may be too good a deal to pass up...
