Looking to organize all my wiring into a patch panel setup.

I have looked at the APC patch panels and see that they have the regular run of the mill 24 and 48 port panels. They also have a surge protected model that requires and individual module for each port which starts to get rather expensive.

How necessary is this surge protected version? Any experience with these? Or just overkill?

Also wanting to use a 16 channel amp from Audiocontrols for whole house audio. I have had a lot of good experiences with them from a car audio standpoint and wanted to know if anyone had experience with their Director D3200 or 1161 Architect models?

Thanks in advance.
