i think ABT is tax free out of state and with free shipping.

Amazon is supposed to be the best for TV returns and price matching is the price changes within 14 days.

But... yeah they are charging sales tax in about 10 states now and that is increasing since the precedent has been set. They've been negotiating a delay in collecting sales tax to get in front of a federal internet tax that is gaining momentum, and tying it to their building of super-centers near metro areas to achieve same day delivery - the holy grail of on-line retail. Basically, they will be collecting tax but still driving sales with the convenience factor. WebVan anyone... I think they are understanding the impact of taxes to both consumer spending (2/3 of the overall economy) and to Amazon's top-line revenue. They have always ran based on cash-flow rather than profit. Should be interesting...

They are both $500 off right now. No tax or shipping. Not bad IMO.

I also received email tracking from Sony for CEVA and they then called to set up delivery for saturday.

CEVA has had my tv since monday and conveniently called me to schedule delivery on one of the 2 days a week they deliver to my area so they obviously couldnt deliver it today

I have 10% discount from Sony's website through my employer. Does Sony ship stuff free with white glove service or that's just curbside delivery?

they have free 5-7 day shipping and from what I have heard they unpack and make sure it works before they leave so yes "white glove" but i doubt they will do more like connect to receiver, mount and so on.

The 65s are available for sale as well now? Not just the 55s?

still nothing in the BB systems. I have a credit there that's going to be used on the 55".

Do you think they'd assemble the stand before they plug it in? That's how the Amazon service works.

Good gentlemen and ladies, I placed my order with Sony for the 55 inch Sony Bravia XBR HX 950 on Tuesday 9/18. My expected ship date is 9/25 next Tuesday. I was hoping to get it earlier, but it doesn't look good yet. I will reply with some direct feedback as soon as I have it. Has anyone seen any solid reviews on the new model yet? I spent $2999 with approximately $178 of sales tax with free shipping. Look forward to sharing information on this TV.

Also, I confirmed that the stand for the XBR 950 is not chrome or nickel. I confirmed with sony that this "Black Stainless Steel." I was very pleased to hear this as I didn't want a nickel colored stand.

My 55" HX950 just arrived. I only have a minute before I need to get back to the office. The stand takes a couple of minutes to assemble and put on. It is surprising how thin the shipping box is; it is a little under 7".

Yes. The 65" can be pre-ordered from SonyStyle, Amazon, Abt, and other. Current expectation date per Sony's website is: October 26

What do you guys think about the Sony 5 year extended service plan for $300?

I would HIGHLY recommend getting the warranty. $300 for a 5 year is a very good price. There is no repair to that unit that would not be over $300 by the time you put the service call and diagnostics into place. Not to mention parts. And if your failure occurs later in the term of that warranty there is a good chance you will get a free tv out of the deal.

Does anyone know how the Sony warranty compares to the SquareTrade warranty from Costco which is $99 for 3 years?

Not sure, but some credit cards will upgrade your warranty to 2 years for free. I didn't feel an extra year was worth that much, so I just purchased the 5 year warranty directly from Sony.

How about your opinion?

I like the picture quality, nature color, no more screen reflection, deep black level and higher contrast by full-Array LED backlighting.

I don' t like the stand but I don't mind it. I plan to set it up on the wall in my living room. I am waiting for 55" HX950 for a price under $2,500 at the end of this year.
