I'm not being defensive. I'm also not saying sales don't happen - they absolutely do, but they are at the discretion of Sony rather than the retailer; in general, prices are higher this year than last for comparable models. Unlike Samsung, Sony doesn't seem to have budged much from MSRP so far this year on sale pricing on their UMRP models. And unless we include unauthorized dealers here, so far I have not personally seen price-protected TVs sell for below UMRP from authorized dealers.
for example, a quick look at current HX929 pricing on camelcamelcamel, an Amazon price tracker, shows that the lowest amazon-direct selling price, back in October, was about $2300, and I recall it regularly floated around 2.4K to 2.6k. Compare that with current "sale" pricing, and it doesn't really seem like much of sale.
