Buy dedicated CD player or use Oppo BDP 83?

I currently use an Oppo BDP 83 for my Blu-ray/audio CD purposes. I was looking into buying a dedicated player but was hoping to get some advise first. Is it a waste of money to buy dedicated when I have the BDP-83? Would a decicated give me better sound quality and features? I was considering the HK 990HD Cd player but didnt get great feeling form what i've read.

My current Setup

HK AVR 7550HD
Oppo BDP-83
Infinity Beta 50 (front)
Infinity Beta 20 (rears)
Infinity C360 (center)
SVS PB-12 +2 (Sub)
Monster Signature Series HTS 5100 MKII

Thanks in advance for your input.

Almost certainly. The only exception would be if there were some feature you wanted that the Oppo didn't have. Only you can answer that.

I have an Oppo BD-83SE and it does a fine job for both movies and music. Save your money for something else you might want in your system.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll hold off.

I've been using the 83SE for CD, SACD and DVD-As for close to two years. I have been very happy with the SQ and I feel the standard 83 is also a very good CD player. I would also suggest keeping the 83 and use the money saved for some new music smile.gif.

complete waste of money - can you actually buy dedicated cd players anyway?
The Oppo decodes every format out there - throw in some SACD's and it sounds great!
