The other news I found today was regarding the switching speed. In dynamic mode it is equivalent to a 30x color wheel, and in all other modes it is 10x. Details are here:

Was Panasonic showing this projector in Vegas this week?

Yes. However, it was not in the best of conditions as there was substantial ambient light. Could not ascertain the actual quality of the projector. Sorry!

Did they do that with all of their projectors? Or where some given special treatment and displayed in a more theater-like environment? Thus, by implication saying that this projector isn't intended for such an environment. That's a stretch, I know, its just that there is so little info about this thing that I'm looking for any possible scrap.

They were not displaying any projectors for HT. The only one running was the LED/Laser 9000 and as I recall it was for another purpose. The new HT model was displayed but not hooked up.

I can't wait for this thing to be tested and reviewed.

As usual here in Italy price is 1:1 Euros/Dollar:mad:

I spoke with a panasonic sales manager and confirmed 470 will be on the market here in march with a street price of 5300 Euro = 7000 USD:mad:mad.gif

More detailed specs here:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/projector/extranet/main/products/rz470/rz470spec.html

If I am reading it right you can feed it a 3840x1080 at 60hz signal to get 1080p60 in 3D.
Is this the first 1080p projector that can do 60Hz 3D from a PC?

I'm thinking that is just a guess. We haven't gotten MSRP pricing from our panasonic rep yet. Also seems higher than what they were suggesting at Infocomm. Will find out in the next couple of weeks I guess.

I wonder if there's a phosphor life issue like CRT's had.

They had much larger phosphor areas and would still burn, but maybe hitting them with electrons generates a lot more heat than laser light.
I know we can't post specific street prices, but if you search you might find this puppy significantly discounted.

I'll try "Things that are half-off" for a hundred, Alex.

Can anyone elaborate on exactly what a posphor disc is? My google-fu was not up to the task. My speculation is that it is a very slow moving disc with phosphor on it so that the phosphor does not burn out for a very long time. It does seem like all of these hybrid projectors have them.

Yeah. Is this low initial price point typical for new projectors? especially (somewhat) new technology? I expected this to be far more expensive. This is now definitely moving up on my wish list.

I am SO tired of fighting with bulbs and the dimming over time. I can only hope that the PQ of this machine is of high quality and crisp... we will see!

Remember this is a business-class projector and the pricing reflects the business market. Also the performance is also oriented for the business application rather than attempting to get the best possible performance for a home theater application. Home theater variations, from Panasonic and/or other manufacturers, using a similar light engine should be out by year's end. These may have both a lower street price and performance characteristics more optomized for a home theater application.

I'll trade the multiple display functions (edge-blending, color matching, etc.) for excellent video processing, a CMS, and a manual iris I can crank down in 2D. If they can do that for around $3k street, we'll talk. Get the native CR above 2k:1, ANSI contrast over 700:1 with sufficient brightness for (calibrated) 3D and it would be a winner. Is that asking too much at the ~$3k price point?

The question is when will JVC get on the band wagon, I don't want an other projector with a lamp!

It's expensive to maintain and even when calibrated as the time goes by the calibration goes south paying $500 for calibration every time you have to change the lamp is a hassle and waist of money :(

There are some details now at

http://www.projectorcentral.com/news_story_1841.htm

as of a few days ago. Can't wait for some real world reviews on this projector. A little high priced though. Hope there will be some better deals.

Well I wouldn't get too excited about this, have you looked at the noise specs? 35dB normal and 29dB eco. That is noisy as hell. Maybe because it's a business projector, it's just not optimized for noise suppression, and an HT version would be a lot quieter.
While it certainly could be quieter, I am looking at it as a replacement for my optoma hd81-lv which is 32dB and I've not had noise concerns with my optoma under normal conditions.

"Panasonic PT-RZ470UK/UW available in March at an MSRP of $6,799. The projectors come with a standard 3 year limited warranty and illumination parts are warranted for 10,000 hours."

Just using 10,000 hours it then would cost 68cts an hour :) compared to your average lamp projector rated at 2000 hours $3.4 or 5 times less expensive for LED.

Know if JVC would be so kind an produce an LED projector or Home Cinema

Yes I know we don't just throw away a projector when the lamp burn out

The key words here are 'warranted' and 'rated'... big difference biggrin.gif
post #150 of 221

Still warranty is for 10,000 hours so that's pretty good don't you think.
