Another iRule question- analog input

I’m working on my screen masking system, and it will be controlled by a linear actuator. The LA has a pot so it can have programmable positions for the common aspect ratios. I am controlling the LA with a controller by the same company that makes the actuator, and controlling that with an iTach CC. I just got the setup working last weekend with the up and down motions and the preset positions. But I want something more…

I would like to input the pot reading of the LA into iRule so that I can have a readout on my ipad of what the current aspect ratio is at any point. I am new to using the iRule software, and have searched for a while now trying to find information on doing this, but I have come up with zero results. From just reading the abilities of the different iTachs, it looks like it may be possible to put the input into an iTach IR, but I cant find any info on whether or not the inputs are analog, or if they are just an on/ off type of input. Please, someone tell me there is a way to do what I am trying to do..

And then, IF there is a way to get the input into iRule, how do I set up a screen to display the aspect ratio? I can easily calibrate the numbers and give the slope and y-intercept of the resistance vs aspect ratio, that’s not a problem. But the actual GUI is where I will need help.

Wow, no one knows? I know the concept is trivial, but I was at least hoping someone would be able to tell me a simple yes or no as to whether the itach IR can accept analog input signals...

The sensor inputs on the IR iTachs are digital only.

Thanks man.. I guess if I'm gonna do this, I will need to use something other than an itach. Anyone know of a way to input an analog signal into irule?

Well, it depends on your geek quotient. As a hobby, I build my own AV controllers based on Microchip PIC embedded processors. Microchip has a development board for the pic32 for about $75. I 'think' it comes preloaded with their TCP/IP demo app. That demo app includes a Telnet server, which theoretically iRule could connect to and read feedback values. The demo app also includes the ability to read a potentiometer and output the value via the Telnet connection.

Not for the feint of heart, but, if you're geeky, not too difficult. There is of course all the Arduino dev boards too.

Well, thanks very much for the link Jonathan, but seeing as how I dont even understand half the specs on that page, I guess Im not geeky enough frown.gif a bit out of my league, but I appreciate the suggestion! Maybe I should just take the cave man route and mark the columns that the masking system will be riding on lol
