Someone seems to have anger management issues, as illustrated in his portrait. Did something happen that makes him think that "experienced members would love to tear him to shreds"?
Troll fodder? Seriously? I've reviewed my post and don't see it.

BEF, seeing the thought and science that you have obviously put into your build, I made my final decision about the screen being AT. I was hung up on the fabric affecting brightness/contrast/sound acuity. This has changed my screen from 120" x 51" to a much more satisfying 152" x 65" CIH, resolved speaker placement issues and moved my projection wall in 2'. Now I am working very hard at winning the lottery to pay for it all. Thank you for the inspiration (my wife doesn't). smile.gif

Nightlord, You asked Q's, I hope my answers were helpful. I like to understand why something is done a particular way or the cause for a problem; hence the FYI.

I try to limit my input to topics I know. I don't pretend to always be right. I am always open to a discussion about points of view on how to do things. That is how we learn and evolve. I thought that this was the beauty of an open forum, so that people can share their experience and build a better mouse trap together!

just jim,

While your input is certainly appreciated as it results in discussion, this is a public forum and the correct information must come out in the end so that those reading but not posting can be sure that what they are reading here is accurate.

The second layer of drywall should be screwed directly to the studs just like the first. This is what The Green Glue Company specifies, as well as all industry leaders that I have spoken to who are involved with the production and manufacturing of Green Glue. Laminating screws with a drywall adhesive may be an ok way to attach multiple layers of drywall, but we must remember that Green Glue is not an adhesive despite its name and sticky characteristics. Especially when first applied before the damping compound has time to cure, Green Glue has almost no adhesive properties. This would result in the laminating screws being the only method of holding the second layer of drywall for up to a month before the Green Glue becomes more sticky. On a ceiling especially, this would scare me.

You also stated that The Green Glue Company recommends applying a bead of their product on the studs before the first layer of drywall. This is also incorrect. I have never seen such a recommendation and one of the founders of Green Glue, Ted White, has specifically recommended against it.

Once again, your input is certainly welcome as it spurs on discussions such as this, but the final information in this case comes straight from the manufacturers and founders of Green Glue.

If you'd like to discuss these points in more detail please consider starting a new thread where others can weigh in and provide you with more scientific explanations if you so wish.

321 centimeters wide. Nice! (That's 10.5 feet for us backwoods North Americans.) It makes me chuckle to see you rebuilding the screen. Even with your detailed planning and meticulous execution you fell into the same trap as the rest of us...big screen envy! Again, fabulous build.

I have disliked the "small" picture when I have watching movies that have 2.35:1 format. The combination having 2.35:1 and 16:9 with the same height of the image is absolutely perfect for me. The cinema feeling you has with a large and wide 2.35:1 screen is huge. I have no regrets!

Great theatre! Seems like you Norwegians really got the knack of it. There's also Atledreier who posts on HTShack, he uses the same LCR. And there's Akto, who posted pics of his stunning HT here:

Good for you to go to a 2,35/1 screen. I have one waiting in a box until our HT is ready. Same size: 130"...

I am especially interested in those inConcert Miles. But it seems the designer is no longer in business. Are there variations available such as your surrounds or did you come up with those yourself?
Thank you for your kind words!

Yes there are a variety of very good theater in Norway, there are many good cinem on AVforum.no

The speakers i have built i am very happy with. I have designed myself surround channels and subs.

When all the speakers have to be removed to create the new screen solution, I found out that I will give them the same finish.

Then it's time to get up the screen again!

Image width of the new screen is 321centimeter, about 126 inches in width

For simplified service behind the screen, I created a hinge solution to get behind the screen.

Here are some pictures of the theater as it looks today

I keep coming back to this thread! The Air Motion tweeter in the speakers is something my small active Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 5 also have. I really like the sound of them little suckers. Emotiva now has a similar stealth 8 whis uses the AM tweeter plus an 8" mid-woofer. Very promising, but I doubt they will make the same impact as the InConcert Miles.... Our multipurpose HT will be 5,000 cubic feet (W 6m85 * L 8m30 * H 2m60)

The drivers are easy to find. Can you provide more info about the crossovers? You have the passive crossover as designed by the Tangen, correct? Can I simply turn to Jantzen (DK) with the scheme and they will provide me the parts for the crossover? And how about your surrounds? Is that another crossover design and how is it different?

Thanks, any help would be very much appreciated.

I may be wrong but I am pretty sure they're fully active as the crown amps he uses have a good inbuilt dsp.

AMT's have to take over the place of compression drivers at some point. Adam Audio use them, Quested are using them in their long throw series.....and of course I use them biggrin.gif

Nice to hear you find inspiration in what I have done.

I use an active crossover in my setup, all adjusted by Crown I-Tech amplifiers. Now that I'm running a 3-way system, I have a crossover frequency of 1800Hz -18db/okt. When I had 2-way system I had the crossover frekvens at 900Hz -24 db/okt.

I put as attachments the drawings of the passive crossovers to inConcert Miles, Beymen TLP-150H. Tangen has also made a design where he has spent Beymen TLP-150, without the horn. It is a very good tweeter that can handle great sound pressure.

As I write in the post directly above, I now have a 3-way system, I've built detikert midrange to my system. Not that the system was so bad it was, I felt that where I could get some more to make the experience even greater. Midrange enclosure contains 12 "midrange that is in the closed enclosure of 30 liters and 15" bass that is in a reflex enclosure similar to the other 2 woofers do.

Elements, Midrange 12" Beyma 12G40 og woofer 15" Beyma 15P80Nd.

I just have to say WoW . I only have a small question regarding your construction project and i saw that you poured some light concrete on the floor . Is that a gypsum based cement or it's a polymer based one ?

Thank you very much!!!

It is a fiber reinforced concrete, used it to get the floor perfectly straight.

Thanks for the reply. Now that you know the difference between the original 2-way and the 3-way, do you consider it a must to go for a 3-way? During my search on the web on the Miles, I also found that South-African website where a builder made a 3-way too.
Would love to see finished pics of the 3-way speaker. AMT + 12" Beyma midrange + 15" vented Beyma woofer... awesome! And not a cheap speaker to build either. Quality is rarely cheap.

Here's a link to the South-African JimGore's 3-way version of the Miles:

I have a thread in the forum, http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,17173.0.html. Have been in contact with JimGore smile.gif

Of course the 3-way system plays much more open and almost effortless than 2-way system does, so it's a better setup with 3-way.

They have not got Finis yet. But here is the setup right now.

Amazing! Downside is that every gap is now filled with speaker- and sub-cabinets... No extra speakers for you anymore there!

BTW, did you ever do reverberation measurements?
