Newbie looking to replace Logitech Z-5500s

Hello everyone,

I have been browsing the forums for a while now. I guess I finally decided to make a move and get some real speakers.

Currently, I have the Logitech Z-5500, their top of the line computer speakers.

Through some research, I have realized that a good budget set up (2.0) would be the Polk Audio 40s (with stand), and the Denon 1612. I would be using it mainly for music (and movies at time).

So I have a few questions.

1. Is the proposed set up the best available for around ~$500?
2. I have never heard the Polks before, would you say that they are much better than the Z-5500?
3. Are there any parts of the Z-5500 I can use with the set-up (mainly the subwoofer I am curious about)? Or should I keep the Z-5500 for movies?
4. Suggestions on what else I should buy as a newbie enthusiast?

Thanks a lot for your time!

Check out the Energy RC-10s. These are generally considered to be better speakers than the Monitor40s. Research in the Energy owners thread to learn more.

The 1612 is a good choice.

You can get the Monitor 50 for about $110 each from Amazon; I would suggest that they would be better than the 40 (plus cost of stands?).
