Audio and video from NAS to AVR?

Is it possible to stream movies from a NAS unit (Synology DS212) to a TV via an AVR?

Which models are capable of doing this?

Alternatively, is there an AVR capable of playing movies from a HDD via USB?

My intent is to replace the amp I have with a network connected AVR... I read about the units from Popcorn, but the reviews seem to indicate they have a buggy/slow GUI for audio playback. I'm looking for the best from both worlds! rolleyes.gif

It will be way easier to accomplish the same thing by putting a cheap media streamer in between the NAS and the AVR.

If you really want to stream it through AVR then you need one that supports DLNA video. There are a lot of AVR's that can stream audio and picutres over DLNA, but not so much for video. The reasonable way would be a separate media streamer as mentioned above. Another alternative could be a DLNA capable BluRay player instead of the media streamer. Or you could just connect the NAS over USB directly to your TV if yours supports it (most of TVs from last couple of years do).
