How can you find out if the TV is upgraded to the latest software version before purchasing?
I doubt they put the software version number on the box. You would have to fire it up and look at the update menu. It states the version and has a button to check for updates which you can download directly from the Internet and update. SJ

I will be updating to 04.02.84 when I get home today. Hopefully we get favorable results after it's all said and done.

I turned on my set this afternoon and a notice came up asking if I wanted the upgrade. Went fine - mostly seems to update Magic Wand to allow control of other components. Pressing the "MY apps/Menu" button now brings up the full set of controls for your selected unit - in my case Dish DVR. Unfortunately, I use rf, and I don't want to switch to IR, so it won't work for me.

Did you upgrade to 03.01.50 first or did you get an update notice without it? I am wondering because now LG does not even show the 03.01.50 update on their support page anymore. Maybe they are now pushing out the 04.02.84 update to everyone regardless. Anyone that didn't install 03.01.50 get an update notice?
Sure enough, LG now shows the new update on their website with the following note:
[What's new?]
1. Add universal remote controller
2. Add Skype
3. Add Web Browser gesture Zoom in/out
4. Add HID mouse controller
5. Update MLB

I am currently downloading it onto my TV and it takes a while to do this. Since they have the update on their site I recommend you do the USB update method. It will be quicker.

I had my fingers crossed hoping the update would fix the 24p issue. According to what LG put on their website, it doesn't appear that the issue was even addressed with the latest update (04.02.84), unless the previous update (03.01.50) fixed the motion blur.

Has anyone had a chance to play a blu ray disc and notice a difference?

1. Does anyone know the make/model of the main/master/system processor(s) for these sets?
2. Can someone post some screen shots of the user menu main page and some of the major sub pages like picture controls?

I just received my 9600 and love it.... can anybody recommend any awesome 3d calibrations? I really want to make it pop!!!!
I have to say as a owner of the 9600 I am very happy with my purchase so far. I also have a panasonic 55in vt25 and sony's personal 3d viewer. Look I love the vt25 but I almost feel I enjoy will enjoy the 9600 better..I know active 3d is supposed to be better, but the passive 3d on the 9600 is far better than the VT25 and the Sony HMZT1 personal 3d viewer. I have yet to watch any blu rays yet so I can not comment on the 24P flaw. I have yet to calibrate mine and I honestly don't know if I need to. Both TMX settings look great to me (maybe im ignorant, but it's bliss). I have to say I compared it to all other LED on the market for months and I am more than satisfied with the 9600. It is one sexy piece of technology. If you can get it for less than the msrp and are considering buying one, I wouldn't wait any longer. Unless you can afford the OLED arriving soon. Hope that helps somebody.

I was hoping there would be a fix soon for the 24p flaw, but I don't believe last firmware updates corrected this. If you get a chance to view a blu ray disc, i'd like to know what you think. Personally, I would rather wait till LG issues a firmware to fix this minor problem before buying.

So I didn't get a chance to watch a blu ray disc last night. What I did instead was watch a HD DVD lol... I have toshibas last flag ship HD DVD player and watched the Batman Returns on THX cinema mode. I have to say the picture was phenomenal, super crisp, better than I have seen in a long time. I did notice a similar blurring to what has been described kinda like in the Green Lantern movie. Any where from somebodies face to the batmobile. It probably happened about 20 times throughout the movie. I was very annoyed. I haven't calibrated the 9600 yet so hopefully there is something I can adjust to fix this. I also noticed that the corners were kind of bright in certain scenes that also annoyed me. I hope to try a blu ray tonight and hopefully I get better results. Can anybody recommend any setting adjustments to correct any blurring?
Can anyone recommend any adjustments to make to prevent the motion blurring or I also noticed my upper right corner seems brighter than others, almost like light leakage? Watched a HD DVD last night lol and noticed blurring a few times. Also, the information bar said 1080P 60HZ, what happened to the 480hz? Any thoughts or recommendations?

I tried the calibrations mentioned in this review and have been very happy with the picture. I have TruMotion off and Backlight set at 48. I had some motion blurring just watching some HD TV shows and DVDs before I calibrated and it made a big difference over the Standard settings out of the box.

As far as the information bar, I do not know how it gets the information but I am currently watching a baseball game in HD and the bar says 1080i, 60Hz. I watch some shows and it says 1080p, 60Hz. I believe the 480 Hz the LM9600 can achieve is with TruMotion on, but I think the TV only reports the signal coming in and not what the TV is actually displaying. Other than that I am still trying to learn how it all works. I am a novice when it comes to LED/LCD TVs, but I am slowly picking it up.

I am getting ready to watch a BluRay and have some other settings I want to try if what I have set now doesn't look good. I'll report what I find out when I get a chance.

I've been watching the Olympics in HD and they are fantastic on this TV. SJ

Thanks for the info I will try it tonight..... I watched Dark Knight on blu ray last night to compare apples to apples to the HD DVD. I watched it using the THX cinema again to to compare and I didn't notice nearly as Bad of blurring on the Blu ray as I did the HD DVD. Compared to my plasma. I am gonna change the calibrations tonight to what you recommended and play some ps3 games and see how that looks. I have 30 days to make it right otherwise I think I might return it for the panasonic wt5o series or sonys xbr series... I really dont want to because the LG is so sexy and to me the LG has more immersive 3d. I am also contacting LG to see what they can recommend. I live in AZ and its a 112 degrees so I cant have another plasma in my house generating heat, so I have to stick with the LED. Cheers Luigo I will update you thx.

Watched a HD DVD Batman Returns and then Dark Knight on Blu Ray and I have to say the HD DVD was phenomenal so much clearer on the 9600 than the blu ray was. Its sad that the technology didn't make it. Thinking of returning the 9600 because of slight blurring and trading for the Panasonic wt or the sony xbr. Does anybody have any recommendations, a similar situation, or advice? Thanks.

I watched the Muppets movie on BluRay last night in 24p and I think it was the first thing I have watched on this TV that didn't show any signs of blurring or trails on dark areas or any other scene. Not a lot of dark scenes in that movie but what I did see looked good to me. I even replayed a couple of scenes a few times just to try and find any abnormalities and I didn't see any. I used the calibration I linked to you from Flatpanelshd. I will have to try and get one of the movies mentioned by people that complained about the trails.

I live in Las Vegas so I know what you mean about the heat. One reason I bought this was due to the lower power consumption compared to my previous DLP. I am glad I did because so far I have been happy with the TV.

The Olympics in 3D looks pretty good too. So glad DirecTV has a 3D channel to watch them on.

Question? I was calibrating the 9600 using the flatpanels guide that you recommended and i came across rgb method? I could not find rgb method in the settings. I also was curious about the rgb highs and lows/ I went to the color adjustment and there was saturation, tint and i think luminescence?? Sorry I am new to calibrating, can you help or any recommendations? Thanks!!

For the RGB method you go to Expert Control, then scroll down on that menu and select White Balance and in there is a setting called Method...you set that to 2 points.
For High and Low, under that same White Balance menu there is a setting called Points. You select High then set the Red, Green, Blue numbers. Then you select Low and set the Red, Green, Blue for it. You are basically setting both of them, but one at a time.

I hope this helps.

I don't know if this thread is dead but I watched Wrath of the Titans in Blu Ray 3D last night and compared to 3d in the theater, my Panasonic VT, or my Sony personal 3D viewer the 9600 was the best 3D experience that I have had since watching Avatar for the 1st time in Imax. I haven't had any issues yet with blurring other than when I watched a HD DVD. I also have been playing ps3 and things look pretty awesome too. I price matched and only paid $2200 plus tax for the 55'' and I am very very pleased so far. I was researching and thinking about returning it for Sony HX but I read that the 3D is kind of weak and you lose the 3D if you move. Still have a couple weeks left to decide finally but I hope this helps anybody who is shopping.

You know what, this thread may not compare to the Samsung UNXXES8000 thread in terms of length, but I don't want to risk buying a Samsung after reading all the complaints from people that are still experiencing problems with that model. I'm suprised more people are not choosing the LG over the Samsung UNxxES8000. I'm glad you actually looked for motion trails and motion blur and kept us posted with your findings. LG released a firmware to fix the motion blur issue on the 7600, I don't see what's taking them so long to release a firmware for the 9600? What are they waiting for? Someone said the Green Lantern movie shows motion trails with certain scenes, maybe you might want to check that one out and report back and tell us what you see.

Luigo,
Thanks for reporting that you saw NO motion trails of any kind during the Muppets.

Right now the price of this set has gone down at various online retail oulets. I got mine for just over $2400 around the beginning of July and I see it out there for around $2200 a couple of places lately. At these prices this TV is definitely worth the price now. I probably would not have bought it if it stayed around $3000.

If they have the BluRay, I will put Green Lantern on my Netflix list and see if I can notice any trailing going on. Every movie I watch now I try to notice anything unusual and so far nothing yet. Let's hope it stays that way.

Last night I watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on BluRay in 24p. It has the dark intro which looked amazing on this TV. I was looking and I didn't see any kind of trails during that part. I was constantly looking for any irregularities throughout the whole movie and as far as I could tell there were none. This was with the calibration I linked in an earlier post. I just wanted to keep everyone updated on what I have seen so far. I will continue to review any movies I get and post what I find here.

Anyone else had any issues lately watching BluRays? Not sure if the last software update fixed anything since I was not able to watch BluRays until after I installed it on my TV, therefore I cannot compare the before and after. I'm also thinking the TV is working better the more I use it since some abnormalities I noticed when I first got the TV are no longer there now. Do these new LCD/LED TVs work better after a break-in period or is it possible the update corrected some minor issues?

Alright, I had some alone time with the 9600 this weekend and I think it went well. First I wanted to test the 3D again so I watched Avatar on Blu Ray 3D. To me Avatar is the best 3D experience. With the 9600 it brought me back to my first 3D experience when I saw Avatar in the theaters and I was like wtf this is awesome. The scenes in Pandora are phenomenol I feel like I'm in the forest lol. Then I watched the new Underworld on Blu ray 3D because its a really dark movie for test, plus I read it had good 3D. Well it looked awesome to me. Blacks looked black and the picture was amazing. The 3D looked awesome too, considering that usually dark movies don't regularly look as nice. I had a great experience. I wanted to try sports so I turned on the Real Madrid game vs celtic. I will say I was disappointed, and only because I have a panasonic plasma vt that I compare it to. So I went downstairs to watch the game lol. I watched the mens gold medal basketball game and basketball looked fine. I have not tried football (american) yet. Last but not least I watched the new Shark Week. I changed my settings to vivid for fun on this and everything looked great. I had no problem with bluring this past weekend and I enjoyed every minute with this tv other than sports. The 9600 is my bedroom tv so I dont have theater system connect to it, but I am very pleased with the audio. I actually think it sounds great!!! I highly recommend this to anybody looking for a emerssive 3d experience. I read that you lose resolution with passive 3d tech, but compared to my pany active 3d the resolution was just as sharp!!! I would still chose a plasma as my primary tv only because of sports, but if you dont watch sports then go with this guy. Also, the LED runs a lot cooler than the so if you live in 115 degree weather like me than the LED is a good choice. I hope this helps somebody and I agree with staying away from the es8000.
