With the 9600 it brought me back to my first 3D experience when I saw Avatar in the theaters and I was like wtf this is awesome. The scenes in Pandora are phenomenol I feel like I'm in the forest lol. Then I watched the new Underworld on Blu ray 3D because its a really dark movie for test, plus I read it had good 3D. Well it looked awesome to me. Blacks looked black and the picture was amazing. The 3D looked awesome too, considering that usually dark movies don't regularly look as nice. I had a great experience. I wanted to try sports so I turned on the Real Madrid game vs celtic. I will say I was disappointed, and only because I have a panasonic plasma vt that I compare it to. So I went downstairs to watch the game lol. I watched the mens gold medal basketball game and basketball looked fine. I have not tried football (american) yet. Last but not least I watched the new Shark Week. I changed my settings to vivid for fun on this and everything looked great. I had no problem with bluring this past weekend and I enjoyed every minute with this tv other than sports. The 9600 is my bedroom tv so I dont have theater system connect to it, but I am very pleased with the audio. I actually think it sounds great!!! I highly recommend this to anybody looking for a emerssive 3d experience. I read that you lose resolution with passive 3d tech, but compared to my pany active 3d the resolution was just as sharp!!! I would still chose a plasma as my primary tv only because of sports, but if you dont watch sports then go with this guy. Also, the LED runs a lot cooler than the so if you live in 115 degree weather like me than the LED is a good choice. I hope this helps somebody and I agree with staying away from the es8000.

Nice report. Good to hear everything looked good to you as well. I too like the 3D picture this TV provides. I have yet to see any problems with the LM9600 and will keep trying to find something.

As fas as sports, did you turn on TruMotion and try the different settings? I have been hearing that sports is the one time you want to have TruMotion on. Otherwise turn it off for 3D, regular TV, and movies.

Thanks!!! I will try messing with the Trumotion. I don't know if I remember where that option is??? Hey question though to other owners about I think blooming? When the picture is completly black I notice some spots are brighter than others, imparticular my upper right hand corner. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about? I still have a couple weeks to exchange it. What dpo you guys think?

I believe you do get some blooming when there is no picture on most LCD/LED TVs. I notice it on mine, but not when a picture is showing. I think the Backlighting and Local Dimming possibly affect that? I can't be sure.

Also, I believe the TruMotion is under Picture Options for your settings right under Local Dimming?

For anyone that owns this set would it be possible to post or take screen shots of the THX Cinema settings including the expert settings. I own the LM8600 baby brother and I would love to know what these values are and test them on my set. Thanks smile.gif

Don't have a screenshot but here are the settings on my 55LM9600 for THX Cinema:

Energy Saving = Off
Backlight = 30
Contrast = 80
Brightness = 50
H Sharpness = 0
V Sharpness = 0
Color = 50
Tint = 0
Aspect Ratio = Just Scan

I cannot get into the Expert Control or Picture Option because everything is greyed out and not clickable. If there is a way to see these I don't know how to do it.

Thought I would keep things rolling as I wind down to the date of my 30 day return policy. I finally watched football on the 9600 and I have to say it looked really good!!!! I can't much for my Cardinals, but football looks great. Soccer I'm still meh... I don't think a lot americans watch it anyway and its to bad:( So if anyone is interested in this tv I say buy it. I downloaded the iphone app for my tv to use as a 2nd remote and it works great. The only Tv that I feel better is the VT50 panasonic otherwise from all around everything you get. Internet, apps, streaming, web browser, Best 3D i've seen ( and i have a lot to compare to ) , clear bright full LED picture, and it's one sexy beast!! I still remember when I first saw it at bestbuy. I was like wow that is the coolest looking tv I have ever seen, there is no bezel!!!

Which iPhone app are you using to control the TV? Thanks. SJ

I am still very happy with this TV as well. Watched a couple more Blu-ray movies the past week and still see nothing unusual. Everything looked great to me.
I was looking at downloading the android app to try the remote capability myself. I think I may do that after hearing how it works for you.

I've tried two different LG apps for my iPhone and they don't seem to work. SJ

I use the LG magic app for my apple 4gs and it works great, no probs over here. Ps I have been to two different magnolia stores and both reps told me that the 9600 is not full led, its just local dimming to give it that look? Does anybody know if it really is a true full led or is Nano led just a decieving term?

The 9600 is backlit led. Nano technology is the diffusion scheme to spread the light evenly on the screen.

Have you guys checked out the very comprehensive review of the LG-9600 at Home Theater Magazine ?
I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade on this thread but the results of the testing weren't very impressive : considering this set uses full LED backlight with local dimming, its 0.007 ft-L black level after calibration was not very impressive; I was expecting a minimum of 0.001 ft-L - as measured with the first generation of Sony/Samsung LED backlit sets, the Pioneer Kuro and the Sharp Elite - or at least 0.002 ft-L minimum black level.
The magazine also had to send back the first test sample of the LG-9600 because the reviewer felt it was defective, displaying an even poorer black level and with the corners noticeably brighter than the center of screen when displaying a full black image.
I was disappointed and expected more from LG and its LED Nano technology, which i believe is used in these sets ?

Ya I read a lot of bad reviews on this TV too. For $2200 I bought it anyway. Look I don't have calibrations and tests, but I do have two eyes and own other tech to compare it to. A Panasonic vt and Sony personal 3d viewer hmzt1 that is oled. Like I wrote before, my experience with the TV is phenomenal. Best 3d I've seen. I know its passive but to me its more emmersive than even the 3d viewer or the active in the vt series. Its has the internet, streams, and apps. Which works a lot better than other brands. As far as movies its amazing for a led!! Plus like I said before it is sexy. I haven't seen a prettier TV. Look everybody has an opinion and there are a lot of negative people out there. If you Google mother Theresa you could find something bad about her. The tv is awesome and for $2200 for the 55 you cant beat it.

Thanks. Third LG app but this one didn't come up when I originally searched. I love using the pointer on my iPad vs the remote. Cool. SJ

Ya if your looking for that kind of black level than you have to find a kuro or a plasma I recommend the vt series. The Elite led is prob the closest to those black levels for a led and the Sony xb has a dark plasma look for an led but it is only edge lit and suffers on other features like 3d performance and internet. Look for $2200 you can't beat the 9600 55 inch. Look I'm just a normal educated guy who likes to play games, watch movies, and sports. Compared to the Sony hmzt1 which is oled you can't get any blacker and my pany vt. I can't really see a difference in dark movie or tv scenes, the 9600 looks great!!! I do want to thank you for drawing this article to my attention because I did notice that my corners are a lot brighter than the rest of the screen. Especially the upper right corner. According to Hometheater.com they had the exact same problem and got a new one. So, just a day before my 30 day return is up I called to switch it with a new one. Thank you for your post. I will respond to follow up with my new one smile.gif Look anyone who wants a super dark blacks just buy a Plasma, but if you want a full led that is super sexy and fun than pick up the 9600.

You're not raining on my parade. I looked at a lot of reviews both good and bad for this TV before I bought it. I also went to a couple different stores and watched various brands on the showroom floor to compare. Most of the reviews state that for the high MSRP the LM9600 was listed for, the TV may or may not deliver. I was not going to pay the MSRP, but when it dropped down to $2400 in early July I figured it was worth the price. You can probably find it a bit cheaper than that now.

All I can say is now that I have it and found a good calibration this TV is awesome. I have not had any problems playing Blu-rays at 24p and the colors really stand out. The 3D has been great and I enjoy it very much. Also, as kentgabel mentioned, the design looks awesome. The very small bezel makes the picture look even better "floating" on it's stand. Bad reviews or not, I have the TV and am very happy with it.

Most people only focus on reviews that really get into a TV where they use high-cost equipment and stringent tests. You put any TV to the right test you will find something wrong with it. You will also find one TV perform better than another in one category, but lacking in a different category. If all someone cares about is how black the blacks get than get a Plasma. To my naked eye the LM9600 looks pretty darn black. Overall the LM9600 performs very well and for the price I paid it was well worth it for a 55".

Hey guys,

I have not posted here in a while ever since I had returned my TV back to Amazon (due to the 24p playback issue) but have been following the thread every now and then.

I am still looking to get a new TV and now noticed that the price has dropped by >1000 since I had first gotten the TV! Am thinking about possibly picking up this TV again (TV was great except the aforementioned issue). I do know that the TV was out of stock for a while on Amazon to which I assume was LG stopping production to fix an issue. Now that it is back, does anyone know if the 24p playback issue has been fixed yet?

I have noticed some people saying there are no issues with their TVs which is an encouraging sign.

I believe it is now fixed from what I been reading....

For how inexpensive the tv is now I would go ahead and get the 9600 again. I wonder if the blurring had something to do with the tv needing to be 'broken in' kind of like a pair of shoes? When my 9600 was first delivered I watched Batman Begins on HD DVD lol and noticed blurring through out the entire movie. Since then I have updated and calibrated it. Sometimes I even go back to the setting that I watched Batman in and not once have I noticed any blurring like I did the first time. I have played other HD DVD, Blu Rays, regular tv, and have played ps3 and haven't noticed the blurring again. I remember reading somewhere that tvs need to be kinda "broken in" at first. So if you scroll through the forum you can read a lot of great things about the 9600 and I almost feel like a spokesperson beacuse I have nothing negative to say about the tv for the price I paid. I am having a new one delivered today because my first one had a really bright upper right corner. So I will report on the new one prob Saturday.

Hi Guys!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need your suggestions...

I was almost finalized to Purchase LG L8600. However now I am thinking to go for LM9600. Which one is the best choice. I know the price is major difference, which i do not care much.

I am lil confused when I read CNET review for LM9600. IS that some thing which can be ignored??? Pls give your suggestions.....

I have owned this TV for 2 months now and have not had any problems with it. Most of the reviews you read online were done before the TV was officially released or right at the time it was released. A new update came out last month and since then the picture quality has been even better than when I first got it. I am not sure if it is because of the firmware update or the fact my TV went through a break-in period, but I see much less clouding than I did when I first got it. I have been watching a few Blu-ray movies and have not noticed any abnormalities that others have seen in the past. Last night I watched The Grey in 24p, which has many dark and white scenes, and I did not notice any blurring at all. Maybe a few of the problems folks have had in the past were fixed. If you calibrate the TV properly it will look great.

My suggestion is you get the LM9600 rather than the LM8600. The LM9600 is the only one that is full NANO backlit and with the price as low as it is now I believe it is definitely worth getting over the LM8600. Plus if you use the smart TV functions and internet, the LM9600 has a slightly better processor which will help in those areas.

Luigo..........You are amazing....First time I got my answer so well....with all the points covered and well said. Great!!!

Thank you so much....Till now I did not had any TV, I have started building my full set up. When I was purchasing receiver I posted a question and did not get straight forward answer. When I posted question about speakers also same thing, Even last time when I asked about LM8600 also I did not got the answer. It always use to go in to other direction.

Now I am 100% confident and the best answer. Thanks for taking time and posting it. No confusion at all. I will wait for couple of weeks and grab this 55 LM9600.
I am excited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No problem. If my experience can help someone else make a decision then I am going to give my opinions with honesty. I am sure there are others who will agree with my assesment on the LM9600.

Good luck!

Best Buy is having a sale on the 55LM7600 plus 6 pairs of 3D glasses and an LG 3d BD player for $1800 through this Saturday. I've really wanted the 55LM9600, but the 1080p24 motion trails/blurring problem is a deal-breaker for me.

So, do you recommend I get the Best Buy deal on the 7600 or should I wait and get a 9600 knowing that LG may never fix the deal-breaker problem?

Have you got the new one? What do you find? Since you are using a PS3, have you tried the full-screen dual-play gaming option (where one player has Left polarization and the other player has Right polarization)? If so, what do you think? Finally, do you use the voice functions of the Magic Motion remote? If so, how do you find they work?

To be honest, I have not seen the blurring problem in over a month now and I have been playing Blu-rays at 24p as I stated in previous posts. I also have not seen anyone complain about the blurring problem in a while. Either those people are not having the problem anymore and only post when they have a problem or they do not have the TV now. I wish if someone did still see the problem after applying the firmware update that they would say something, but no one has done so. It might be safe to assume the problem is non-existent unless you hear otherwise. Maybe it was the firmware update or maybe it was the break-in period, but my LM9600 has been fine.

I am not sure I would get the LM7600 at that price. The LM8600 is probably an even better choice for about the same price at other locations, but in my opinion nothing beats the LM9600 right now. The price has come down to around $2400 or less at different online retailers and that makes it worth the price. You get 6 pairs of 3D glasses with all of these models. Some stores give you an additional 6 pairs, but I don't even use all of the 6 original ones so 6 more does me no good. smile.gif

Well I took the plunge (once again) a few days ago. Was able to get the tv for less than 2K plus an extra 6 glasses from Amazon. Will update this thread once I get it in this weekend.

I've been keeping my eyes on this set too from way back when it was announced at CES. In spite of the greatly reduced number of zones compared to the flagship LHX from 3 years ago, the glossy screen, and the 24p bug that may or may not have been fixed, I'm still intrigued by it - largely because I think that with kids passive glasses are the only reasonable way to go.

Given all the reservations, I'd prefer to pick up the set through BBuy and take advantage of their 60-day premiere silver return window & 36 mo. financing at a matched price. But if Amz had it below 2K I'd happily deal with their 30-day/24 mo. I've only seen this set dip to ~2339 on there - was the 2K through them directly, Vishank, or a reseller?

It was directly through Amazon. I actually had to have them pricematch a competitor in order for me to get it for <2k which they did.
