Official LGxxLM9600 owners thread - Page 4

Well I got my TV in earlier today. First thing I did (naturally) is to test the 24p bug once again.

Testing settings:
- Standard picture setting with Trumotion off and real cinema on.
- Watched a clip of The Walking Dead (same scene that was giving me problems when I first ordered the TV a few months back)

Out of the box, firmware was version 03.01.51.
- LG DLNA built in playback (e.g. 60p) - playback fine, no blurring
- Samsung Receiver DLNA 24p playback - lots of noticeable blurring --> 24p flaw present

Updated to firmware version 04.02.84.
- LG DLNA built in playback (e.g. 60p) - playback fine, no blurring
- Samsung Receiver DLNA 24p playback - playback seems to be fine

So, it looks like the flaw may have been fixed! Will have to run some more tests later.

Also, it looks like I got a July 2012 panel not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Hi Vishank -

Thanks for checking on the 24p bug so promptly. That bodes well. My interest is piqued higher now. Also, thanks for clarifying the Amazon price match yesterday. Was the competitor a local vendor if you don't mind my asking?
No problem. The competitor actually was Buydig and they had a sale over the labour day weekend that brought the price down.
Thanks again, vishank - I'll be watching for any further updates/feedback you post.

Nice to hear! May explain why I have not noticed any problems watching Blu-ray lately. Things are looking up for this TV and I am glad I bought it. I got mine in July, so the panel was probably made earlier than yours and I don't see problems with it.

I have not tested the set any further but does anyone have any good picture settings for this tv?

Thanks

Thanks

I posted this link earlier and the calibration listed there is what I use. Seems to be the best picture I have gotten so far. I set my backlighting to 48 and TruMotion off, but you can play around with either setting to get it adjusted to your situation. Let me know if it helps.

I've had my 55LM9600 for a few weeks now and overall am impressed. Solid picture quality, great looks, nice extras (I have an XBMC setup on my other TV, so I loaded PLEX onto my Diskstation server and can use MediaLink to watch shows on the LG). Not enthralled with the Magic Remote, but nothing is perfect.

I do have one serious issue though - if I try to connect the TV via ethernet directly into my network, the TV begins to have a "wired network connected"/"wired network disconnected" cycle. For a while, I just removed the connection and switched to WiFi, but MediaLink has issues with high-bandwidth shows on WiFi. So, I'm trying to reconnect the wired ethernet. As long as there is an active stream of data, it works (and handles the higher bandwidth), but once you go back to just watching regular TV, the "wired network disconnected" message starts popping up. To make it even more obnoxious, it apparently gracefully fails over the the WiFi but when the wired network "reconnects", it pops up a dialog box asking if you want to revert to wired network.

This just repeats ad nauseum about every 90 seconds. Needless to say, I yanked the ethernet.

Has anybody else had this problem? For all I know, I have a dodgy switch (although it is a brand new Netgear 5-port switch for the TV and Blu-Ray player, which in turn routes to a Cisco 16-port business-class switch, so it should be fine). No other piece of equipment on the network complains, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the TV.

I've used those settings as well and the results are very good. Nice, natural skin tones. It might be just a shade dark for some people. My TV is in my well-lit living room - lots of small windows but no direct glare.

Thanks to your kind responses, I have decided to wait and buy the 55LM9600.

Now if someone could just kindly tell me how to get Amazon to price match, please?

I have not used the ethernet connection at all. I use wireles to stream Netflix and other programs and have not had any issues with it. You have a straight cable run to your switch or connecting through a connection in your wall? Have you tried a different cable between the TV and switch? Other than that I am not sure what could cause it.

I have never priced match with Amazon yet, but I think you have to actually buy the product from them first.

From what I read this is what I believe you have to do:
Once you place the order and it ships they have a way for you to tell them about a lower price that you found on a qualifying retailers web site on their approved list. It has to be within 14 days from the shipped date. When approved, they credit your original payment method. They also do this if they lower the price themselves within 14 days. But you have to initiate it either way..it is not done automatically.

I am sure someone on here has done it before and can say more and also give you a review on the process.

From Amazon website:

How the TV Low Price Guarantee Works
We're working hard to make sure our prices are the best around. If you find a lower price on another qualifying website within 14 days after the date we ship your order, let us know and we'll credit your original payment method taking any differences in shipping and promotions into account. If we lower our own price within 14 days after we ship your TV, let us know and we'll refund you the difference as well.

You can request a refund for the price difference through the "Found a lower price?" button on your Order Summary page in Your Account. If you have questions or concerns, use the "Contact Us" button on the right side of any Help page to contact Customer Service about the TV Low Price Guarantee.

I'm planning on getting this TV, i do a lot of gaming and i was wondering if anyone could test out the input lag. All the reviews i been reading says this TV has a high input lag, has this been fix??

After running further tests, I did not notice any blurring in 24p mode at all. I rewatched the particular scene in Green Lantern and some parts of the Dark Knight. All looks good!

My one disappointment so far has been black levels and shadow detail. I am still trying to find a way to improve some of the shadow detailing but have been unsuccessful so far. I do have some uneven backlight on black screen which I hope will settle down after break in period. It is very evident during darker scenes.

I watched NFL and some of the US Open just now. One word comes to mind: AMAZING! I have been using the settings that were suggested to me from posters (thanks for that!) with Eco on and Clearplus on.

I have not tested input lag yet, not sure if I will notice anything there though.

What I was told to do when I purchased my TV is to call Amazon Big TV purchases department (I think that's what they are called?). While on the phone, I told the CS Specialist the lower price on the competitor website. After he himself checked on it, he told me to buy it from Amazon and then he would credit the difference back. It was pretty simple really.

Finally, do you use the voice functions of the Magic Motion remote? If so, how do you find they work?

Alright, sorry I disappeared for a min. but I had the new 9600 delivered. The upper right corner looks better. I will say there is blurring to the point that I couldn't watch it. So, I updated and calibrated it and now I have just been watching normal tv to break it in. The same thing happened with my first one but after hours of content the 9600 was fine. I do game ,but I haven't tried the dual-play gaming option. I only play online or solo, but I 'm sure its pretty cool. I think you need special glasses though or I read that you can just pop out the right and left lenses and switch to make your own. Viva la 9600!!! Oh, and to the guy who is thinking about buying the 8600 or the 7600 for the BestBuy special don't do it. You can get the tv for $2200. Save for a couple more weeks and just get the 9600. I have seen the 7600 and the 9600 blows it away:)

I do not game on my TV (bought it to watch TV not play games), but from what I read also is it does have some input lag. I have seen people report anywhere from 50-100ms depending on the TV settings. Sorry I can't tell you more.

Anybody having any issues using the LG apps? Netflix and YouTube bomb out after watching around 30 min. Just using the web browser bombs out after awhile. Very disappointing. The TV itself is great for normal viewing activities. Using a wired connection but wifi gives the same results. SJ

I just ordered the 55LM9600 from Amazon, today. It will be delivered Friday. There is a Link on the site, which I am not sure if I am allowed to post here, that you click on the TV, and a pair of $12,99 glasses. You go to the cart and change the quantity of the glasses to six pairs. When you go to pay, the TV, which comes with 6 pairs of glasses, will cost $2338, and the six other pairs of glasses that you added will be free. So, in summary, you get the TV and 12 pairs of glasses for $2338, with no tax and free shipping. I live in California, so buying this locally at this price with the tax and a state e-waste fee would have added about $350 to the total. Also locally the only place that has this TV is the Magnolia Best Buys, and there it is priced at $3300!

Man, good question. I play Street Fighter games and Battlefield. I don't really notice anything abnormal where I'm like WTF. I do get lag on internet if there's a bad connection. I have been playing games for the past 25 years and I don't notice a abnormal experience. I also have a pany vt series and the response feels the same. The 3d is amazing I can say that. Sorry I hope that helps that as a seasoned gamer I don't really notice a lag but, maybe ignorance is bliss.

I thought great black levels was the main point of full-array back-lit led with local dimming? There have been a lot of comments of poor black levels. Oh well, I thought this was the set for me to replace my 8-year-old plasma since I mainly want to improve the black levels and power consumption but maybe not...

I have used Netflix quite often without any issues. I stream it over wifi and have a good connection to my router.

Very good price for the TV with extra 3D glasses. Grats on the purchase and welcome to the club!
