I got all of these for 1150$ total w/out discount and sales all would cost normally 1900+

I didnt want to spend more then 1000$ but still wanted the best or really good for that range and most things were 50% off or more for fathers day at newegg heh.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882269026 - Energy S10.3 Subwoofer got this 320$ off
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120179 - Onkyo TX-Nr709 got for 530 - norm 900
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117403 - Pioneer SP-FS51-LR Floorstanding Speakers Pair bought two pairs of these for front and sides
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117404 - Pioneer SP-C21 Center Channel Speaker Each
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117405 - Pioneer SP-BS21-LR Bookshelf Loudspeakers Pair - for my rears

I believe I made myself a pretty decent deal. Curious if yall agree or had experience with these speakers/receiver/sub

That's an often recommended budget system you have amassed there. I've heard the Pioneers (BS41's) and they are perfectly fine (sound similar to my RC-10's). You did fine and you gave yourself plenty of time to enjoy while you start planning your upgrades rolleyes.gif

Very nice starter system. Good job. You could have saved money by not buying a set of towers for surrounds though.

yeah I could have saved 80$ by buying a second pair of bookshelf instead but I heard of people using floor standing on sides and love it. So I decided too also biggrin.gif maybe overkill but i love big sound

hiya Lance,

You could've done a lot worse. Congrats on your new gear.

I've seen all these items at great prices, Newegg sales, combined with signing up for their newsletter, to get great coupon codes, are the best way to get the best prices... and patience... as they rotate 'everything' on sale every few weeks, it seems.

If you are happy with how they sound, in relation to what you spent, then yes, you got a good deal. And towers for your sides is fine versus bookshelves plus the cost of speaker stands... probably about equal, and you get bigger , more visually impressive speakers, although sound is probably equivalent either way....

Let us know your impressions when you get them all hooked up, Your opinion is the one that matters more than any others'. I think you'll get big fat smiles... smile.gif

i definently will. not gonna use them til august when i move to my new house and man cave biggrin.gif

I may have to build stands for the sides still because my couch is tall and wraps around so one of the sides will be underneath the height of the couch. But I do have a small table I may just sit that on and leave the other one on the floor.
not sure :P

awesome to hear that. Cant wait to open them up but I cant til august when I move :P

I may just do a little sneak peak on my sub and receiver to make sure they work right ^^

I have the same speakers but am using a BIC F12 sub and a Denon 1712 receiver. Compared to my old HTIB it's a huge upgrade, heck I live in an apt and have to turn the sub down. They should hold me over a few years until I can afford the next big upgrade.

Why not for $80 more? Sounds like a fun idea to me, too biggrin.gif

I think you'll be very impressed with your setup for how much you spent. smile.gif

I hear you...but the bookshelf would give you more freedom of height placement. With towers you are limited to the height of the speaker. Other than that, Congratulations on the system. Good deal!

Looks like I may not move anytime soon and they just arrived.
May as well wear them in ^^

Definitely. Or at least setup two of the towers, the receiver, and the sub (just test the others to make sure that they work). Would be a shame not to enjoy that good sound smile.gif

Just set your speakers to 80hz, it doesn't mess with audysseys settings it calculated already.

Agreed. But leave the LFE at 120hz. The LFE is for the .1 channel in 5.1 for movie soundtracks, and is meant for the sub (special bass effects and such). The other crossover setting will send the lower part of the 5.0 bass in movies, and the lower part of 2.0 in music, to the sub instead of the speakers. So a typical choice for that is 80hz.

Glad you like your setup. I think you got a great deal. Have you had a chance to watch any blurays with it yet? That's where you will really hear what it can do biggrin.gif

The sound has been amazing. My wife says the bass waa too loud but i disagree haha. Ill lower to 75 dbs and see or just turn it down when listening to music. Prob going to redo audessey tomorrow when shes gone.

Btw when listwning to HD audio should i use straight decode or thx?
Straight would make it 5.1 right? But THX or plx will male it 7.1 using the 5.1 HD audio?
