Real Receiver Power

I really don't know if this information are already known here.

But a group did tests and created a table having the real power of some receivers.

This table needs to be updated, but is a good guide.

It's well known to people who study receivers that their ACD power is often much lower than rated.

What's not clear is how much we can learn from those bench tests. It may show that some receivers are very poor; but in some cases, it may simply show the receiver's limiter circuits kicking in - and if that does not happen with real world material, then of course they should fare better than the numbers show.

I feel the very cheapest models will have the greatest compromises. I feel that many people will be just fine with a quality mid range unit. I feel that higher models may have benefits - the Yamaha model in my bedroom system seems to run out of power for music where my Z7 did not seem to do that (but it's hard to do a comprehensive head to head comparison, so keep that in mind.)

That chart is just about useless, not one test is 20-20k. Where did they get their results from?

Yeah, I agree with you.

The table is only a direction not the final answer. :-)
