Subwoofer for large open room

I've been reading for the last few days and I thought I'd ask for some biased advice. My budget is < $1,000. I'm thinking for my room situation that two subs would be better then one. For two subs I was thinking two Epik Legends. For one sub I'm not really sure. What do you think?

i don't consider myself qualified enough to offer a suggestion, but you'll probably need to answer a few more of the standard questions shown here

What's your placement flexibility like? From the drawing it looks like you might have a lot of options. If that is really the case, I would go with a single Empire and dial in the best placement. I think that you would enjoy the greater extension and output that the Empire offers. If you don't have much flexibility, for whatever reason, and the sub is just going to be plopped wherever, then I might suggest going with the duals instead to help achieve a better response.

I'm sorry, I've read that thread and forgot a few.

1) < $1,000
2) 20x18x20
3) Large. The room itself is 2,700 cubic feet but it opens up to the rest of the room.
4) HT. Room gets used to watch TV 80% of the time and 20% music when entertaining
5) Realistically most of the listening is going to be every day moderate volume TV viewing. That said, I love bass and when I do crank it up I want to feel it.
6) Appearance is not that important but location might be. The entire room is tile so running a subwoofer input will be difficult for any location except the wall where the TV is now unless I go wireless.
7) I'm in no rush, I want to do it right the first time.

For under $1000, dual Legends make a lot of sense for two subs. For a single large sub that would work well for your space, consider the Epik Empire or HSU VTF-15H. See this shootout thread to see some comparison: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1313176/shootout-epik-empire-vs-hsu-vtf-15h-vs-cht-cs18-1-vs-rythmik-fv15-vs-ed-a7s-450
