So, has there been official word that this is the James Cameron supervised digital restoration that was to have been worked on recently, or is it just the old master re-tweaked in the color timing department with less DNR applied?

Er, you've presumably seen the caps, yet are asking? Total Lowry, bro. Total Lowry.

^ My immediate apologies for that ghastly reply. But yes, this is totally the Cameron remaster. We're living it. Savor it.

Would it have been nice to get the mono track? Of course. Be happy that we even got a remaster as amazing as this one is. Most movies are not so lucky.
After all of this controversy about sound I pulled out my DVD which has both the mono and the surround mixes. If the blu ray doesn't have the mono track it's not a great loss. Bear in mind the film was never intended to be mono in the first place. There are older films made in the mono era they would wipe the floor up sound wise of the mono Terminator track.
Lets take the metallic scraping sound, listen carefully and you hear it doesn't mesh with the music, it's a different layer and sounds like a foley effect. Sonic layers of the recording are buried in the mono mix. If you like the mono mix fine but it does not serve the soundtrack.
And yes I've seen this in a theater, knew it was mono and still prefer the surround for the video release. And as for foley sounds, they never sound real in the first place.

People hold up the Image LD mono PCM track as if it's some sonic masterpiece when it's pretty pathetic in places and makes the movie seem even more low budget than it was.
A good example is when the punk shatters the bottle at the beginning of the film: it's just laughable.

That particular sound effect sounds pretty terrible in the remix as well.

I don't consider the mono track to be a sonic masterpiece, but it's far less obnoxious and distracting than the 5.1.

What? Who here has ever said it was a sonic masterpiece or a terrific mix? What it IS is the original sound. The same sound released with the film in theaters and then at home on VHS, Laserdisc and even DVD.

We deserve to have it. It's that simple. Never mind the fact that the 5.1 remix is laughably bad and so different from the original that it is distracting.

I'm watching this in chunks, 20 minutes here, 30 minutes there.

On the first couple of viewings, I was completely amazed by how clean and detailed the transfer looked. As the scenes got darker (both literally and figuratively), I appreciated the grainy, soft images lending an appropriately gritty, noir feel.

However, the longer I watch, the more annoying and disappointing the teal/green color timing becomes. It is just overwhelming. EVERYTHING is friggin' green! This ain't the incredible hulk or green lantern. Green coats, green lights which are supposed to be blue, everyone's eyes are green. Every wall of every building is green. It is just over the top, ridiculous. Too much!

I wish the original transfer had another shot in a different region on a bd50 in avc

Absotruthly. The mono mix isn't a work of high art, but it is how the movie existed for the first 16 years of its life. Gave plenty of folks like me the opportunity to burn it into our brains, and the 5.1 is not the same experience. I don't care that my speakers are being filled. I don't care that my subwoofer's booming away in the corner. I don't care that Cameron would've originally mixed it in stereo surround if he'd had the money. What I do care about is getting the soundtrack that I know and love in the best possible fidelity, and the Laserdisc PCM audio fits that bill.

So we should change all soundtracks that now seem "laughable" too you?!?!
That's "just laughable"!!!

Transfer is the same as UK?

Amazon.ca has a recent domestic release listing (Sept 11, 2012) under 'Terminator Blu-ray Repackaged' (package artwork below), that appears to have the same artwork as the new UK release. This release is not currently listed on Amz.com. Can anyone comment on the likelihood that this is the same transfer as the UK release (?)

The Canadian release and current FoxConnect release have that same artwork... and no, they are the same old crappy transfer we've always had. You have to import if you want this.

Okay, I will admit I need to see the entire film but this looks a little too teal when they should have toned it. I will also admit films like Blade Runner look ten times better to me but they are mired in darkness and futuristic tones. This film has a lot of 80s vibe and IDK YET, I thought the first screen I saw was amazing but it fit the tone for that one, but that teal looks a little nuts to me. Why could they not just tone that down a tad? In some scenes it looks great where others just look obnoxious. Not sure how I feel about the original color timing either but this is becoming a strange strange thing. Why does he do this now to his films/movies? Was this teal **** just discovered and lit his mind or something a couple years ago I mean he could have done this long ago if need be. I still think Ridley does it much better or his films simply fit the atmosphere better.

Also, I want to see True Lies in teal.

So, the lovely steel blue-dominate color palette of T2's cinematography (as shot by Adam Greenberg) will now soon be tealed over?

In my best William Shatner voice:

CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!!!

T2 does have quite a bit of teal in places. In particular, the scenes at the Cyberdyne offices are liberally larded with it, and it comes and goes elsewhere.

T2 has always looked steely blue to me.
