Hello everyone. This may be my first post here (if it's not, it's been awhile!) and YES, I did do many searches first.
I currently own the following Sony Subwoofer. I'm aware it's not all that great, but for the price it's been pretty good to me:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OL22T2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I've since got some new (new to me) front speakers that it can't quite keep up with:
http://www.amazon.com/JBL-S310-Floorstanding-Speaker-Single/dp/B00002EQBT/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340245348&sr=1-1&keywords=jbl+s310
I am really happy with the sound I'm getting out of my system right now - crisp with very low distortion, even at levels that I feel are out of this world loud. Still, I want more bass! I feel that even with my sub set to the max (I use a fairly low crossover, 60Hz) I'm not getting as much bass as I'd like. I also tried just using the JBLs woofers, but that didn't really get me to the level I'd like either.
The obvious solution? Buy a better sub! I plan to do just that:
http://www.amazon.com/America-VK-12-1000-Watt-Front-Firing-Subwoofer/dp/B0016J3H18/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340245583&sr=1-3&keywords=subwoofer+12%22+bic
My question is this. I understand why it would be a no-no to continue to use my current sub if both subs used the same amp. My current is 6 ohms and the new one would be 8 ohms. BUT, since they are powered subs, isn't my Onkyo TX-SR800 receiver (I would use a Y splitter) just basically sending a weak signal to each telling them what to output and not really giving them any true power? I've read many places that it's a no-no to mix subs with different impedances, but couldn't I adjust them to "match"? I realize the BIC may end up being louder, but I'm looking for max bass as long as I don't sacrifice too much quality.
If I buy the new sub I'd have very little use for my old one, so I'd like to put it to use with a Y-splitter. Am I crazy?
Thanks, guys. I LOVE reading this forum.
