Not sure if the inputs matter on the "sl and sr" or the other inputs or does it matter?

Hi TsunamiMike, for 5.1 setup reguardless where your two rear speakers are located ... connect it to Surround R and L and not Surround Back R and L.

they are in the ceiling as far as the rear channel is concerned...

Generally in 5.1 the surround speakers are located on/near the side walls, only slightly behind, the listener. It's only in 6 or 7.1 the speakers are located directly behind the listener. If your ceiling speakers are what completes your 5.1, then they should be connected to the surround, not rear speaker terminals. Goggle dolby and see speaker placement schematics.

Incorrect. On a 5.1 you always connect to surround R and surround L. Not the rear. You sound field will be incorrect when converting a 7.1 to a 5.1 track. The rear channel are strictly for 7.1 setups.
