I can vouch for my Vudu experience on a Sony 55 inch LCDRPTV. Their SD is as good as Directv HD most of the time. They really have their act together on the video quality. I'm currently without my surround setup so I can't speak on the audio side.

How does the AV compare on Vudu compared to bluray or DVD?

Alot of movies I could see it not making a huge difference - even on my 133". But some movies I really like the most pop I can get for audio/video.
No, Pany 65VT50 - The AQ/PQ on Vudu is as close as you will get to bluray quality.

I just went to Vudu and their prices are absurd. Blu ray quality or not...SD is 4.99, HD is 5.99, HDX is 6.99. So of course who's gonna watch it in SD and no way I'm dishing out $6, might as well catch the bargain matinee at the local cineplex then. Once again Amazon still proves to be great even though I thought 3.99 was a lot.

Comparing amazon to Vudu is like DVD to bluray, for PQ and cost. The advantage of Vudu is superior streaming PQ/AQ over competitors, if you just want to watch the movie and are not concerned with the AV experience there are cheaper options. Also I don't know where you live but personally have not heard of a theater the runs movies newly released for rent @ $6 for matinee.

Dredd was well worth the $5.99 for HDX I paid (maybe their proces went up?) and I tend to enjoy a movie more if the A/V is tip top... YMMV

Seconded. Also is better priced than having to put on pants and drive to a redbox and then do it over to return it.

Ok maybe I'm just a cheap skate then. But seriously though guys, if I have to dish out that much money like $6..I'm going to spend another few bucks and get the dvd or BD on ebay and keep it. If I run, might as well run a little faster. It's like going to home depot and paying $25 to rent a drill, might as well buy the damn thing on craigslist or walmart and own it.

Exactly.

Netflix has a plan of 3 BDs or DVDs "out at a time" for $20 & $15 per MONTH.
It's a no-brainer IMO.

Ah hah..touche., you got me oinkster..you got me good. Ok but at least for $20 I get to watch a butt load of dvds in a month because I'm only an hour drive from santa ana drop off location. If I drop off on sat, they send a new release on mon and I get that long anxiously waited copy of Prometheus on Tue every single time like clock work. I love it man
post #70 of 136
Not to totally derail this thread but there are plenty of us that are impatient and old school. Since the Blockbusters are all but extinct, Vudu is a way to get NEW releases at near bluray quality. Don't mind waiting? that's ok, NF will get it eventually or you can wait a few months and find it used for $12. I used to lov browsing the isles for rentals at block buster but at least with Vudu there is not guess work for stock or availability and for those that want it now it costs a couple bucks more for the rental. Order one less beer with dinner or whatever to offset but it's worth it for me given my impatience and how much I enjoy movies.

Yes, ma'am....same here.

If I drop a disk in the mail today, I get its replacement back day after tomorrow (Sundays and Federal holidays excluded).
In other words, I always have at least one movie available each night.
It's a beautiful and very cost-effective system.wink.gif

You and I may be swimming against the current here but I agree that Vudu's prices are excessive. I can go to one of 3 Redbox kiosks, none located more than 3 minutes away and rent a BD for $1.50, or see a new film in a nearby cineplex for $4.25. Maybe Vudu makes sense for those who don't have cheaper ways to see films located close by but it makes no sense to me.

I've considered adding discs back to my Netflix. After we dropped them we rented a lot more and probably erased any savings we thought we got.

I suppose if someone was located on the Space Station it might be a good deal....

Good input guys.

Looks like I am the dinosaur that still uses Blockbuster and the library. smile.gif

I do the $10.99, one at a time deal at BB and literally run my mailer in to do in store trade-in. It's a little under two miles from my house and am sweating pretty good by the time I get there and is funny to see the employees looking at me in horror. Most are used to it now and know I run in. But is hit and miss to get new releases the first week and their catalog of indie horror movies is weak at best. Just trying to re-examine my options. I can be patient with new releases but would be nice to have more indie options...

The only business establishment I would be running to in Beaverton is the nearest brewpub....tongue.gif

Although it happens, I rarely find a title unavailable thru NF.

Well that's funny because many of the craft beers I like are from YOUR neck of the woods. biggrin.gif

In Salem for the winter, but yeah, there are some good brews on the other side of the Cascades.
I recommend Sinister Black Ale from 10 Barrel.....very nice.

The thread has taken the standard route but something is amiss. Any nitpicking yet? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
1. It's supposed to be in the future (future enough to have first-aid kit with foam healer and auto stitch that can get a shot person back on his normal actions within a minute) but why are the cars on the street from the 90's? frown.gif
2. Kids riding skateboard are in t-shirts and none of them was shivering while it was snowing. Lets say it was the debris from shot up building (instead of snow), they don't evacuate?
3. Dredd got shot through his abdomen. He is back on his normal action after that stitch kit as if he never lost a drop of blood. How?

1) People are poor and cannot afford flying cars. Let's get real.
2) They were locked outside when the war scenario closed the entrance back into the building
3) It's a movie...an action movie at that. Plus, he's a tough-ass mofo. tongue.gif

1) So they discarded cars from early 21st century and brought older cars of 90's from junkyard back to life and kept it through however long into the future? eek.gif Or perhaps the movie budget is poor. biggrin.gif
2) Ok, but was it snowing?
3) He still is red blooded human.

But your ok with the TK, a pistol that holds 100+ variant rounds, a 90lb woman tossing a 200lb man around, a... ah, never mind it's a comic book movie, pop some corn and enjoy.
Please keep the nitpicking going. Every move has flaws so it's not isolated to this one.

At least that seems more advanced than 90's weapon tech. smile.gif

Huh? Which chapter was this? I thought she did some Karate moves.

As one "famous" person said, " comic books are comic books and movies are movies". biggrin.gif

Meh. This did absolutely nothing for me. Despite being a bit more grounded in reality (non-flying police bikes), the original is still better. At least Sly's version is fun. IMO, this darker version takes itself a bit too seriously and didnt entertain me at all.

Despite the lead's attempts to mimic, we know it's not Stallone; take off the helmet, already!

I'm glad he never took the helmet off.

If anyone was mimicked, it wasn't Stallone. Maybe Clint Easrwood a bit.

netflix is great if you can find at least 10-12 movies to rent each month. i don't rent that many so redbox it is.

for the 5-6 brs if get from redbox, is the same cost as one br rental from vudu, but to each their own
