That is not really a plethora of analog connectors. Seeing as they have not refreshed their line up since 2010, it is no real surprise they have not reduced their analog inputs for the last few years. In fact, they are still selling their 2006 products as their high end equipment...
Maybe you should get out of those AV shops, where the equipment stays "current" for almost a decade.

seriously?....I do believe the 700 was introduced in 2011...AND its actually a less expensive piece than the Onkyo 3010
IMO...anything over $2K should still have 7.1 analog inputs
I was actually thinking about the Anthem statement D2V when I mentioned analog connections in regard to Anthem...you know the piece that most call the "pinnacle" in the area of top of the line pre/pros
and ..FYI..perhaps you should visit some higher shops and you would know that flapship components dont change every year..
Even the Asians manufacturers, when they did have flagship items.. didnt change every year...Pioneer SC-09...Denon 5308/4810..Yamaha Z7/Z-11 all great examples around for multiple seasons unchanged....some of those units were the same price( or less) than the Onkyo 5010
I seriously doubt you will see anything next year from Denon to supplant the 4520 or Marantz with the new 8801 pre/pro
If you look at the used market ...several of the pieces I mentioned still bring a good $$ vs their original price
Clearly there is market for the "old" flagships
Look at Denon with the 4311....out for a couple of seasons and just replaced , still bringing a strong $$ for used and refurbed units
Not sure why you think a unit has to be released this year to be relevant
you should check and see what a 2-3 year old Onkyo receiver is bringing on the used market...you might be enlightened
Some of the XX08 series owners are not having the best time right now.......check out the xx08 forum
I bought a 5009 a few months for hundreds less than I could find a 4311 for....and the 5009 was a higher priced unit to start AND introduced later than the 4311
