Could a faulty HDMI cable shut down a PS3?

Hey guys.

I've had a PS3 slim for just over two years and recently whenever I've been playing it it suddenly shuts down without warning. There's no flashing light to indicate overheating or anything...just nothing.. I usually have to give it a few minutes before i can turn it back on again.

It first starting happening when I was playing Uncharted 3, which I understand a few people had technical issues with.

I've tried keeping it fully ventilated, using a different power lead, playing a different game...but it still does it.

However, I'm yet to try it with a different HDMI cable. Do you think that could be potentially be a problem? I use a cheapo one I got from game so it would be understandable if it shut my TV down...but my whole PS3 entirely?

Do you think using a different lead could solve the issue and have any of you encountered similar problems?

Cheers,
Jonah

Doesn't seem likely. Loss of signal due to a bad HDMI cable should just mean no picture and sound, not that the PS3 would completely shut down.

Could be the power supply. I did a quick Google and it seems a lot of people had there's just shutdown like yours and it was the power supply.
