NHT 12d Sub and "ported,sealed,directional" what does it all mean?

Just went through an upgrade in my HT system. I now have NHT Classic 3's front,SuperZeroes surround, NHT classic 2 Center and a Sony sa-w2500 sub powered by Denon 2112. Like the natural timbre and sound.

I have a small 12x12 room, carpets,drapes. 70%movies/30% music. Not overly loud but I would like to feel the bass "in my chest". Just learned about "shakers" here on this forum. Not sure that is what I'm after. I do prefer a nice tight natural bass in my music.

I think I got lucky with my NHT's since I live on Kauai and have no stereo stores cept Sears. Took advice from here, ask questions,okay, a lot of questions and got lucky.

Perhaps not right away but I want a better,bigger, bassier(?) Sub. Maybe when I can take advantage of a sale.
My questions are:

Any opinions on the NHT B-12d Sub? I can get one shipped for $610. That's pretty pricey for me now but any recommendations in that price range? That being the top of my range.

I do not understand ported, sealed and some of this other lingo. Anyone know of a good article or website I should read? Looked at threads on here and just pick up stuff here and there. Frequency shutoffs and the like . Head is swimming.

I've been VERY satisfied with my NHT's and the customer service, primarily John, at NHT. My Classic 2Center arrived but the grill fasteners had been damaged in transit. Emailed NHT and John had replacement grill on the way , no question.

I had been reading up on subs but nowhere did I see NHT mentioned in Sub reviews and ratings. However with my own experience with my speakers I couldn't imagine such a good product line being topped off with lame Subs. So, you have confirmed my own judgement.

Think I'll just wait and save my money to complete my modest HT and save hours searching threads. It is kind of fun though to read what you "serious" audiophiles have to say, even though i don't understand half of it.

Anyone elses opinion welcome.

After more looking through the sub thread the SVS SB12-nsd has caught my attention. I can get that direct from SVS website for $649 shipped to hawaii .

That's $40 more than the NHT sb12.

Anyone's opinion on if I am getting a lot more of a sub for $40?

Small room 13"x10"
70movies/30music, played at fairly loud as I have no neighbors to worry about

I have spent more on my system than ever thought and now that I am down to the sub I don't want to miss the best purchase. What's money at this point? Anyone know the feeling?
I do have to stay under $700,the good tight bass and the HT experience.

Since I don't understand the various technical numbers and frequency chart(hertz, spl , cutoff) and how they translate in the real world deciding is difficult. I think the the SVS SB12nsd goes lower in hertz than the NHT 12d. Does that mean I will feel and hear a lower vibration. But then we are only able to hear to a certain level,correct?

Also, NHT Subwoofer reviews are not falling off of trees either. If anyone can supply a link for NHT 12d frequency chart or a shootout participation please post.

Just Pulled the trigger on the SVS SB12nsd. I currently have a sub connecter cable I bought when I purchased the Sony swa2500. Do I need a "better" cable due to the higher wattage of the SVS? They had as an add on one of theirs but didn't think it worthwhile. Anyone?

Unless SVS comes back and wants to add shipping then this is the deal. Added to cart with address of course and it still showed free shipping. Fingers crossed.

To good to be true on the shipping. Another $100 for shipping is a deal breaker and I am ordering the NHT 12d. Should have known but it should be somewhere there is additional shipping to HI.

So, will post when I get the sub. I'll never know the difference.

Had my b12d for a week now. It sounds fantastic and looks great. listened to a lot of music and a couple of movies. Music sounds complete now. It is really amazing how full the music sounds. It's like having the band in my room. Crank up the music like I've never enjoyed it before. Hard to believe I started with a couple of NHT SuperZeroes and went to Classic 3's and a 2 Central.

Had to "subproof" my LR. Something new starts to rattle on each song it seems, not to mention the windows rattling! Thank goodness my neighbors aren't attached.
Really thanks to everyone on here because I truly went on the opinions of others.

It's been so much fun downloading tunes from the past I don't have anymore. Music comes alive. Listening to the Olympics, all good.
