Originally had the F60 error. I get rid of this by turning unit off for a 1 minute and when the series of 00000 start I press the power button. The time 12A appears in the readout. by pressing I think the menu button I get readout 'Hello' this is where is all stops. The VHS eject works but the DVD tray will not come out. Have not used the unit for over a year and am not sure whether or not there is a disc on the DVD tray.
AND should the light on the front of the remote light when I press buttons?
Is there a way to test the remote?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the Forum.

The IR does not "light" when the buttons are pressed.

This addresses the problem with the disc tray:

The easiest way to verify the remote is sending out a signal is to point it towards a digital camera and observe the electronic viewfinder, the LED should blink when you push buttons on the remote. You can use a digital camera or even your cell phone if it has a camera.

Thank you for that we have tested the remote and find that it is functioning ok.
Sorry for being slow to respond. I have been away and now have visitors from Ireland
