Optical out to converter

I'm looking to convert the optical output on my Apple TV to RCA style stereo cables so I can use a cheap amp. The goal of my little project is to get remote controlled volume of the Apple TV. I am using a Monitor for display with HDMI that has really poor speakers and no remote.

These are the items I'm looking to get, will this work?

With shipping that's going to be about $80, if anyone knows of a similar priced amp with remote and optical input I'd gladly take that instead.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find something better for $80.

You can save 10 bucks by buying one of those converters on ebay for $20 bucks tops. With Monoprice it's going to be about $30 with the shipping. READ BELOW!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE! This device will NOT decode 5.1-channel signals. It will ONLY convert 2-channel digital stereo (PCM) input signals to analog stereo output. This will not work with TVs that only output 5.1-channel digital signals!

That's about all I know. You can try getting a Mini AMP on EBAY also. I did a quick search and found ones cheaper.

I can select stereo out in the ATV so not worrying about the 5.1 issue.

Monoprice usually has pretty steep shipping so checking ebay is a good idea.
