Denon 2312CI- No sound out of the speakers

Weird stuff... usually receivers are plug and play, but yesterday i finally got a chance to setting up the rest of my home theater up.

purchased the Denon 2312CI. i plugged in the HDMI cables and i see picture but there is no audio coming out of the speakers. Now i didnt plug in everything because im still trying to figure out which cable is which for the surrounds. But still i plugged in the 3 front speakers(Center and left and right).

I made sure the cables were in tight and the test tone showed that the speakers were plugged in but no sound is coming out. Im pretty sure its a stupid problem that im not noticing but any help pointing me to the right direction would be appreciated.

I didnt get sound from the internet stations as well which is odd.


any ideas please?

If you're not getting the test tones from the speakers and all are confirmed connected securely to each speaker post, then you likely got a defective unit. Try resetting the microprocessor (p. 144) as well as blowing compressed air into the headphone jack on the front panel.

test tones are working. I can hear sound from the 3 fronts(which i hate because i wish i could hear it for each individual one and not all at the same time)

just the audio isnt passing through.

do i need to configure the receiver to handle the audio via the hdmi?

HDMI connections should be plug-n-play right out of the box.

Got this fixed. Resetting the microprocessor helped.


But now im having an issue having the receiver decode the audio codecs from my PS3. Yesterday, i was playing Avatar and chose DTS MA. The receiver said BD Stereo.

Again, this is probably a noob issue but any help would be appreciated.

The PS3 needs to be reset as it was likely connected directly to the TV previously. While connected to the AVR with the AVR ON, press/hold the PS3 power on button for about 10 seconds until you hear a series of beeps. If you have a PS3(slim) model you can set it to "bitstream" otherwise if not, leave it in LPCM mode.
