I currently have a cheap-o Yamaha AV receiver that is used primarily for switching video sources. I use it with a TV, DVD player and pair of Monitor Audio BX2 bookshelf speakers - stereo, not surround. I also use the speakers for music, which is sent from my PC to a NAD amp. The NAD is there for a couple of reasons - the Yamaha has to be turned way up to get the speakers moving, and I listen to music directly through the NAD for better quality audio. However, the setup I have now is too complicated for several of my relatives who are visiting more frequently now. I'd like to simplify things a bit. So, what I want is an AV receiver that will provide as good quality audio as I can get for listening to music, and will also switch video sources. I don't care at all about surround. I also want to be able to send audio in as good quality as I can from the PC to the speakers via the AV receiver... it will be sent there digitally in some way - probably optical but I guess network features of an AV receiver would be good in this respect, but not required. Is there likely to be any difference by using optical or network out of the PC? I expect not, but don't really know.
I'm considering the following:
NAD T748
Denon 1713
Marantz 1402
I'd really like to buy a Cambridge, but I think they're out of my budget.
Any opinions?
