Have narrowed my Floor Tower speakers, need help with the final two choices.

Hello, I was looking to get some tower floor speakers to connect to my Denon AVR (1911) and have been searching for about two months. I already have a nice 5.1 Def Tech surround, but I wanted to upgrade the front left/right speakers to towers. As my AVR is 7.1 capable, I was going to take those two speakers I currently am using for L/R and make them mids to complete the room.

I have finally decided on either :

Energy V6.2 floorstanding speaker 2.5-way Veritas floorstanding speaker

Or The

Def Tech BP7006.

My question(s) is will either of these speakers have problems with my Denon 1911?

Furthermore, are these models comparable? If there are big differences, what are they?

I looked up that stats for the 7006 at http://www.definitivetech.com.

In fact, I compared different Floor Tower Speakers models at the site. http://www.definitivetech.com/CompareProducts/CompareProducts.aspx?products=BP7004,BP-8040ST,BP7006,BP-8020ST,BP10B
They sold the BP10, BP7006, BP8020, and BP8040.

As far as Why? I love my Def Tech 5.1 current speakers, but I have a vaulted ceiling and I need a little more sound and figured this would do the trick....plus, I listen to 2.1 CD tracks, and I wouldn't mind a little push from those fronts.

Finally, as kind of a bonus question, how would people here rate Energy as a brand vs. Def Tech?

Thanks again.

I know the Energys do dip to 4 Ohm but am unsure about the Def Techs in terms of power delivery with the 1911. The V6.2s also feature rear porting which may be a room placement consideration. I do like the flexibility of the inward/outward orientation choices with the 7006 side woofers.

Energys sound more neutral to me but it is a close call in SQ.

Those speakers you are considering are not the best-sounding speakers for the money; you can do better if you shop around.

If you go to KEF Direct, you can get a set of KEF iQ70 speakers for $399 each (they were $599), and that is a real deal on some very good speakers that will sound way way better than the others.

If you like Deftech, stay with them. You should be fine with your receiver as Deftech speakers are fairly sensitive. One thing though, what center channel are you going to use with the upgraded towers?

I haven't got that far. I figured I was going to use my current def tech center channel....maybe upgrade that next if I don't like what I'm hearing.

I appreciate the money concern. However, I didn't speak of price, but the Energy's are normally $1,200 each and I'm getting them for $350 if I choose them.
The Def Tech's are normally $650-$700, and I would be getting them for $299 each.

A huge savings each direction, and while I'm leaning towards Def tech considering I love my current 5.1 setup, I feel I need towers for a little extra hmph.

I would have to do more research on KEF, but the $400 each is already more expensive than either speaker listed in the OP, and if they are normally $600, that is the price range the Def techs would normally be ($299 sale). The Energy V6 are normally $1,200, so I wondered if spending the $50 more ($350 each) would be the better way to go.

You are getting a ridiculous deal on the Deftech speakers... As for the center, just keep in mind that most of your dialogue comes from the center....

But us, makes sense to see how things sound and go from there.

Yeah, I knew about that center channel. If need be, to Def Tech I upgrade once I get these puppies set up.
Thanks for the input, I was floored when I saw the price as well! :P

BTW : Do you have any input on the center channel I should get with the 2 Def Tech 7006 floor towers + 5.1 Def Tech 600s??

I would lean towards this one from the current lineup:
http://www.definitivetech.com/Products/products.aspx?path=Center_Channel_Speakers&productid=CS-8060HD

I believe the previous model is the CLR 2000 and 2500.

One thing to keep in mind with large bipolar tower speakes is speaker placement is key. They may need room to get the best sound, so you hopefully have 1-2' to play with by pulling the speakers away from walls.

When I get the speakers in, I'll make to see how my current center works. That CS-8060 looks nice, although it doesn't seem to have the radiators my current channel has. I would have to dig up specs, but I will be listening for sure. Thanks for the link.

As far as placement, thanks for the heads up. I do have a few feet of play and won't have it near the walls (I'd say 2 feet away from the walls.)
