Indoor TV digital antenna

Thread Starter
After researching antennas, my friend ordered one through Walmart yesterday - RCA digitall flat amplified antenna ANT301. I decided to get this one and it is now "out of stock"-phoned customers service and they don't know if it is being discontinued. It looks like the one that Walgreens sold, although at the Walgreens I have been in do not have them-it is a different model no. ANT122r.
I am planning on discontinuing my cable service. I don't care about my small tvs that I only watch the news on-I would like a high recommendation for an antenna for my large tv. I do not want to experience "tiling" on this tv and want one that the signals come from all directions-you don't have to play with the antenna. Do you get what you pay for when it comes to a quality antenna? I would prefer to purchase one at a store versus online.
Thanks-I appreciate any input you have.

Problem with antenna that can pick up from all direction (omni-diection) is that it will have low forward gain. To have more forward gain, the antenna have to be directional.

My recomendation is to stay away from amplified indoor antenna (they tend to amplify noise along with the signal) , and get a passive UHF antenna (get the best one you can afford) from RadioShack or BestBuy. And then mount it as high as you can get it (attic if you have one) and position it untill you get most of channels. You may have to adjust the positioning untill you get it just right.

A decent small UHF antenna would be a DB2 or a Clearstream 1. Or step up to a Clearstream 2. Clearstream 1 is $59 at Walmart, and the Eagle Aspen version of the DB2 is available much cheaper from various online retailers. And about the only recommended flat panel style antenna is the Mohu Leaf.

Since we don't know where you are located we can't really help you with antenna advice.
