Help deciding between a few different model tvs.

Hello. I have been reading these forums for quite sometime, but this is my first posting something. I got as a gift a Samsung un65d8000 in January. And while the TV was nice it wasn't IMHO wasn't worth 5k. I had a lot of "light bleeding" and the picture quality at night in dark scenes was horrible. Well long story short Samsung is giving me a full refund and I am getting $5200 back. So I am in the market again for a new tv. The TV will be going in my living room and the light levels during the brightest time of day is pretty dim. at night pitch black. I will be using the TV for gaming and movies. I am thinking of going the plasma route this time as I have read they have been getting better. The TV's I was thinking about are the 4 that follow.

Samsung PN64E7000FFXZA
Samsung PN64E8000GFXZA
Panasonic TC-P65GT50
Panasonic TC-P65VT50

I dont want to use the entire 5k on the tv unless its worth it. i am also looking to buy a new receiver. thinking denon 3313 or pioneer sc-61 but this is for a different thread. I have put both brands flagship model as well as there one down. For the reason being would it be worth the extra money for there top of the line model vs the one below? (e8000 vs e7000 and gt vs vt) The tv will be connected to my pc and ps3 so web browsing features, netflix, smart tv stuff is not needed nor cared for. aswell as controlling my tv with movement and voice. So let me know what you experts here think. Also open to other tv suggestions. Thank you for your time.

The VT50 won the VE shootout, and pretty much all reviews crown it king of the 2012 displays. The GT50 or ST50 are almost as good at a lower price. I personally would stick with Panny, but many here like Sammy. Only you can decide which best meets your needs.

Good choices to consider. I don't have either of these yet but they are at the top of my list. From the reviews I've read here and HDJ's it seems that the Sammy has a bit sharper picture and is less prone to IR than this years Panny while the Panny has better blacks, a less reflective screen and less prone to buzzing even though the buzzing issue seems to be a bone of contention with more than a few for both brands.

Get which ever display is cheapest, and get it Calibrated with what you save.

They are all good displays and Andy seems to have the strengths and weakness of each.

Thanks guys for all the input. If I get say the vt calibrated vs the gt calibrated will I see a difference? If not then I really like the idea about getting the cheaper model and have calibrated

Personal Opinion, of course, but IF I were planning to save $$ by "stepping down" from a VT - in exchange to paying for a Pro Calibration - would drop to the ST50 & have it calibrated.

Overall consensus appears to be that the GT adds some features - notably THX - and a better design, but does not "trump" the ST in terms of picture quality.

Well the thx feature I don't think i would need. Since I will be running a receiver. No sound will be coming from the tv. Let me know if there's more to it. If on the lower end ones I am missing some calibration settings that would help in making the image quality better then i think i will go with the higher end models. any tv i go with i am going to have it calibrated. i just don't want to throw money away on buying the more expensive tv and not getting anything extra. So basically a calibrtated vt,gt, and st. will the vt be better still or will they be the same thing in the end?

vt= gt as far as i can tell st loses some shades of gradation (not sure if it makes any difference) as well as some calibration settings.
Edit: I think the vt has a better screen filter than the gt.

If calibrated, yes, the VT50 will have best PQ.

Mik James, billp thank you.

Guys what if i threw a curve ball. there is an open box PRO-60X5FD. i can pick up for 3200. which is the same price as the vt-50. i know besides the 5 inches i will be losing how would that hold up against the panny? or is this a no brainer and i should go right now and get it before someone else does?

To me it's a no brainer. An lcd that competes with the vt50 for the price of a vt50 rather than double that? My choice aside what's more important to you the absolutely perfect viewing angles of the st50 or the slightly lower power draw and black level of the elite?

I love watching movies in the dark and hate when dark scene have blooming darks, and light bleeding. I was getting tons of that with the same Samsung led.

Whole different ball game mate, the only thing you have to worry about on the elite is viewing angle and even then it is one of the best lcds for viewing angles if not the best. You won't see any uniformity issues, it will get darker than any other display currently on the market with no noticeable blooming, it has a picture that is every bit the equal of the best Plasmas and it draws less power.
