Pair it with the Squeezebox Touch using the USB 24/192 connection, or a Mac Mini?
Not huge power so small bass reflex (ported) speakers maybe aren't the way to go unless you chose carefully, keep the sensitivity above 90db. Deserves speaker cable at QED Signature Revelation level and a similar digital cable, mains cable should favour shielding instead of huge diameter.
It's got the making of a real quality budget system, very portable for students too - I think you'd have nothing to lose...
