Hi everyone, recently picked up the JVC RS45 and loving it. Time now to decide on the screen and order. I'm looking at the Carada Brilliant White 2:35:1 but am getting confused if I actually want a 2:35:1 screen or a 2:40:1 screen. I was looking at many of my blu-rays and most are actually listed 2:39:1 or 2:4:1 with very few actually showing 2:35:1. Currently I will be using the zoom method, but may in the future (at least a year from now) add an A-lens. Can anyone give me some thoughts on which direction I should head. Are there any other screens I should be looking at besides the Carada in the same price range? TIA!

Hi Shade. I have the HD250 and I am projecting on a Seymour Center Stage XD AT 140" wide 2.40 scope screen. I went 2.40 because I wanted to get all of the infomation on the wider aspect movies and don't mind a little black on the occasional narrower aspect ones. I am projecting from about 16' and still on low power with over 800 hours on my lamp. Stil a very bright colorful image. I have a dedicated space with complete light control, no reflective surfaces.

I went through this about a month ago. I settled on 2.35 (I have a Stewart cine-wide 133" with schneider a-lens).

Reason being - in my room, I wanted to maximize the width of the screen. Based on that, I looked at the various ratio's 2.35, 2.37 and 2.40. The 2.40 ratio screen was a little more than an inch shorter in height than the 2.35 (obviously) and I wanted to maximize the height of 16:9 content when not using the a-lens.

When I watch 2.40 aspect movies, I have a very, very small sliver of black bars top/bottom that I could easily zoom in a bit to eliminate (and spill out on the sides maybe an inch) but I don't even see them so haven't bothered. I like having slightly more height which I found to be a good compromise (and again, I could always zoom in slightly to eliminate if I ever wanted to). IMHO, it's a non-issue.

The aspect ratio listed on the packaging is rarely accurate when it comes to the difference between 2.35:1, 2.39:1 or 2.40:1. You'll need to check the disc itself. It's a crapshoot what you'll get.

Just an update I decided to go with a 2:35:1 138" Elite Cinewhite screen. It will be here Friday. In the meantime I've got to get to Lowes so I can go ahead and paint my wall a dark color before I put the screen up. Thanks for the tips everyone.

2.39 = 2.40 (both are the very same thing).

1920x800 = 2.40:1

1920x810 = 2.37:1 (5 pixels top, 5 pixels down)

1920x816 = 2.35:1 (8 pixels top, 8 pixels down)

So you can see how many pixels it really changes.

Heartbroken... screen arrived from Amazon today and they sent me the COMPLETELY wrong screen. I ordered the 138" 2.35:1 and they sent me a 100" 16x9. Nevermind the price difference that isn't even close to what I ordered and to make matters worse they don't have the correct replacement and now my funds are tied up until they receive it back frown.gif

How disappointing. I'm sure you were excited about the new baby arriving...now not to have the opportunity to enjoy your new screen...that sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

Well it took a while to finally get the screen I was wanting but it's finally in and installed. I gotta say stretching the screen and installing the tension clips was hell on my fingers but well worth it. Now I need to get my front wall painted to help with the light fall off from the projector. Any suggestions for a paint to use?

Yep, 2:35:1 screens look almost as good with the projector off as they do with it on. Love your screen ShadeRF.
